  1. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) why would cubs fans be under sui watch, they've made their entire marketing scheme after being losers (but FUN LOSERS!!) to the real fans of that team, this doesnt matter that much. no matter how your franchise markets the team, you're going to live and die by the team if youre a diehard. if we're just comparing the diehards i know, i think the cubs diehards would fall harder. the buildup of this 100 Years thing can have a disastrous effect for them, too. Plus we already have one under the belt, and can always stick to "we got one first" and "NL pennant is easy to get" One Cubs fan i know is seriously pissed that the first championship in Chicago since all these years was on the southside, and the Cubs would have to win two to completely dislodge that feeling for him. That said, so many Cubs fans dont frame the chase as a historical battle at all. Many are still working on 'face the field of play.'
  2. QUOTE (Wanne @ Jul 20, 2008 -> 08:07 PM) I love Joe and all he's contributed to this franchise...but's its time to move on. Pretty much the same feelings I have about Paulie too. I guess there is a comparison there In both cases, we have to move on because of price. If Paulie weren't here, I suppose we could just have Crede and Fields at the corners next yr, which would be better than what we're looking at (Fields/PK)
  3. Re: Cox Obviously it's not fun to defend him on something like that But with the way things ended with Thome... and then Konerko being what he is now Your best chance is betting on that bad throw. That way you take a chance and then have another shot at making something happen in the next at-bat. Obviously it played out badly, but that call allows you the most chances at getting a run across.
  4. Masset seems to really step it up a notch for his starts I remember reading on soxmachine that Masset has been worse than his recent ERA in relief appearances. particularly bad in some respects that havent hurt us on the scoreboard..yet.
  5. QUOTE (Sox It To Em @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 03:34 PM) I'm going to miss most of the game because I just have to see TDK tonight, but go Sox! It's good to have baseball back. That four-day layoff was torture. between that and eraserhead, it seems you dig exclusively dark movies may also recommend Man Who Wasnt There, Blood Simple, Dead Man
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 08:57 AM) Since when did he start reading? The running joke was that he never read the papers. I think it was more something he himself said..that he doesnt read 'em While I dont think reading the box scores is too much a waste of time, I think there's something to be said for a president who is completely into his task. You didnt see Clinton much into sports at all. (Joke opportunity for GOPers here, I'm sure) Bush probably should still be owning the Rangers. One reason I like Obama (and disliked Kerry as well) is that the presidency should be more than just the 'next big business to own'
  7. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 12:07 AM) This is Buds worst nightmare. no, in his worst nightmare they unearth how much he knew about roid use
  8. QUOTE (daa84 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 12:06 AM) neither team has any that they can use...mccann is the only position player to not be used Kazmir could play a position though
  9. expected the last allstar game ever at Yankee Stadium. Not two of them.
  10. potential NY Tabs Headline: Uggla Game
  11. That throw right there is why I was kind of glad AJ didnt make this team. With some of the smartest and fastest players in the game, you dont really want AJ needing to throw them out in a situation that decides the series home field adv
  12. QUOTE (Harvin4Heisman @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) This is almost impossible. Do you guys remember what it took to get Swisher? MacDougal? It would take more than that COMBINED to get a Cy Young candidate mid-season!!!!!!! I'm not saying it can't happen, but sometimes we overrate our prospects, and when you have the worst farm system in all of baseball, you just can't trade everything you have left. It's like suicide for the next 5 years. JD is only under contract for a couple of years, PK is falling off the face of the earth, Crede/Thome/OC will be gone next year. And Javy and Contreras will be gone in two years. You have to think about the future also, not just the present. If we through all of our prospects into this deal, we will be lauding KW now but ripping him in the future. All I'm saying is we simply don't have the bullets to win now and not throw away our future. I'm agreeing with this. We have a chance to win the WS as presently constituted. I wouldnt trade that in for a somewhat greater chance this year+elimination of chance for that in years to come. AND elimination to get better via trade in years to come.
  13. Crede has gotten a lot of important RBIs this year. I dont see why we have to mentally enter free agency already when we're in the middle of a race. We get past this actual year first, and then go to the usual "oh my god, he turned his back on the only franchise that he's ever known" etc etc.
  14. It would likely lead to this weird situation where he'd be expecting to start in the playoffs, but would likely be in the pen. Could be messy. It'll already be weird as is when Contreras is ending up in that position. Hopefully he can be comfortable trying to be the 05 Duque somehow.
  15. Alexei's barely-HR that just goes past Ben Francisco and the wall.
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2008 -> 05:03 PM) Worst individual game in White Sox history. The more I keep hearing about this game, I'm glad I had to miss nearly the whole thing.
  17. I think they would bench Paulie. Ozzie's history dictates that he'll give the veteran every chance to get back, and then make a change. Granted, I'm probably thinking of closers (which is a little different)... but if there's a very long stretch of problems for a vet, Ozzie will give a younger player a chance.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 10:48 AM) Is that sarcasm? I just don't believe a guy can be doing awesome without having an average in the .270 to .275 range. Just my two sense. I love his periph's as they are very solid, but that average prevents him from being awesome. It doesnt really matter what you call it, it's the kind of performance that helps win games. I dont care a ton about what exact label we give it.
  19. on top of all this, thome is even a speed demon over pk
  20. the way we've played we probably dont deserve 2 of 3, i'll console myself w/ that
