QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 8, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) Hmm. Dunno is the right answer at this point. However, if Hahn is successful in trading Abreu this winter, the picture becomes clearer. Then it's a matter of which DH's and which plays 1B. Early guess would be Davidson at 1B and Delmonico DH's. This allows them to use Sanchez at 3B for his defense. Trading Jose in any way to "make room" for Delmonico and Davidson would be a very stupid move. If the right deal is there sure, make it. You don't even consider Delmonico or Davidson's playing time in the equation. For a guy that is essentially bad Adam Dunn, Davidson gets way too much f***ing love here. Cool, he hits HR. He's also a butcher in the field and has an .280 OBP. There is more to baseball than HR.

Carlos Rodon to the DL, will not pitch again in 2017
chitownsportsfan replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Given his history it's logical to be skeptical about Rodon's health. That said, as pointed out, there's zero reason to push him and every reason to scratch him for any soreness. We'll see. -
Moncada needs to find something these last few weeks.

well that sucks.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 04:01 PM) At the very least, just by virtue of being a first round draft pick - he's going to get the next full season to develop. There's no pressure on him. If he's a position we need to replace, we'll figure that out after another full season, maybe more. At this point his draft status has very little to do with anything. He produced in the minors and he produced in his half season last year. He had a s*** sophomore year. Doesn't really matter if he was a 5th round pick at this point his talent showed throughout the high minors and it showed last year. His "pedigree" helps, but it's a minor factor at best.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 03:37 PM) I know some have quit on Anderson already, but there are two things in my head. #1, he is another that was pretty raw when he got here. #2, the kid just went through the worst year of his life. I really want to give the kid a winter to get away and come back refreshed in 2018. From a SSS point of view, he really has been much better over the last month or so. For August he put up a line of .259/.272/.500/.772. That line including seasons bests of 5 homers and 16 RBI's and 56 TB. It is supported by a realistic to low .312 BABIP. In September he has been even better in just five games. It is also worth mentioning that despite the error total, he has played a much better second half defensively. He had 18 errors in April-> June in 69 games. Since July he has made 8 errors in 54 games. He made 14 errors in 99 games last year. The post July pace is almost identical to his 2016 work where he was a plus defender. Even despite what was about a worst case scenario for about half a season, Anderson is barely under a 0 WAR player, and rising quickly. Yea we need to judge him on a curve. He looked like a 4-5 WAR SS last year. He looks like a replacement level shortstop this year. He's done this at 23-24 as a raw prospect. He's probably a 2ish WAR SS true talent wise. This is basically what ZIPS thinks he is. We don't need TA to be a star, we just need him to be a solid everyday regular. That is still a fairly likely outcome for him. Especially as he puts the brutal death of his best friend right as the year is starting behind him. He's had a decent 2nd half: he's been run neutral (according to Fangraphs) at SS and has put together a wRC of 88 while still posting what for him should be an unlucky BABIP of 310ish. If he plays like this next year he's a 2 WAR, solid starting SS. There's no rush and we'll see how it plays out.

QUOTE (turnin' two @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Damn does that guy hate the Sox. He's an asshole in general. It's no wonder that he wasn't able to work in a FO environment.

Good job kid. Give the Tribe a little preview of what awaits them the next 5 or so years. Encouraging signs from Giolito and ReyLo this month.

Very nice changeup for the easy out to 1B there.

Lopez has pitched a really nice game.

Great defense for the Tank but FFS.

Delmonico cannot play LF.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) Yeah not taking anything away from him, just know from his garfein interview he has only been learning for a few years and considering how shy some ESL speakers are in interview settings. Hopefully it rubs off on Jose some! I know Jose wanted to be able to sing the National Anthem in English.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 08:24 PM) pretty impressive him taking this interview while still learning English. His English is pretty advanced. Just in interviews I've heard he's fluent. He has a fairly thick accent but he uses slang and colloquialisms at times. It's another pretty impressive thing about him, just picking up the language like that in a couple years.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 5, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) I think we all agree that his current skill level level with the bat is not acceptable. That is the point. We are contemplating how to get him to a respectable level, as a hitter, to go along with his elite defense and speed. So, you believe that he has just as good of a chance to do so, back in the Minors? He needs to completely re-tool his swing. The hitch in his swing will not ever allow him to hit above 230ish at the MLB level. And he's not going to walk or hit for much power either so he needs to be in the 270 range to be passable. He's gotta retool this offseason and try and work on it in the high minors next year.
-
You can't play a guy with an OPS of 530 in any sort of role, not even off the bench. Sorry. Adam Engel is absolutely useless hitting that poorly. Let him go back to AAA next year and earn another chance but trotting him out in a competitive year? Ha, don't make me laugh.
-
Wait, we got a C+ guy for f***ing Migo? Is this real life? What a job by Hahn, he is stacking chips. Granted this guy has sucked ass in the low minors but the upside is there and hey if he never pans out others will. edit: the Sox got 4 fWAR out of Migo in 250 innings. That's amazing. Cooper has some misses but more often than not he delivers results.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) When i had shin splints from 18-22 years old, it certainly wasnt because of bulk. The arch of my foot caused it, I had to wear inserts to support the arch when I played ball. And yea, that s*** hurt bad Huh, well whatever the f***ing problem is get it fixed.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 12:28 PM) Daryl Van SchouwenVerified account @CST_soxvan 19m19 minutes ago Moncada in Chicago resting leg Renteria said. 'Once we get back we'll get sense of how irritation is & if he's able to start bball activity' Yea was just about to post that. Bummer. Sounds like he'll probably play the last two weeks, if at all. Hopefully they can get him on a better training plan this offseason he might be better served losing some bulk.

Someones gotta do it: Sox @ Twins 8/30
chitownsportsfan replied to chitownsportsfan's topic in 2017 Season in Review
QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 09:43 PM) I don't think it;s that far fetched. Not with how mediocre the league and division look. Tigers are going to be awful and KC probably won't be much better. Minny isn't any great shakes and Cle is not a team that's going to just rampage through the division games either. Sox should absolutely be looking to "compete" next year. And by that (why it's in quotes) I just mean not obviously tanking like they did at times this year. See what happens. -

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 09:13 PM) Does it amaze anyone else that Minnesota was just absolutely awful last year (remember that long winless streak they had to start the season), and this year they have a wild card spot if playoffs were to start tomorrow, end of August. Just nuts how that works. Granted there still is a month left, but the Twins are almost always the small market underdog team in the league to make a push for the playoffs (although they never get very far) They are a mediocre team with a negative pythag (some luck in close games) that is "in the playoff hunt" because of the 2nd WC. Honestly this is about where the Sox should be in 2019, maybe even next year. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 09:15 PM) What did he do wrong tonight? Just watch his f***ing ABs. I'm sick of it. Reached a boiling point tonight watching him. He needs a slump buster offseason. -

Tim Anderson f***ing sucks. He need to just completely throw this season out the window. He has made zero progress at the plate and has gone backwards. Sick of seeing his ABs frankly. I was a huge fan after what he did in AAA and last year in MLB but FFS dude at a certain point doing the same thing over and over and over again is the def of insanity. I bet he's glad he signed that deal. Right now he does not look like a MLB player. -
Keep losing boys.
