  1. He's in his own head right now, but at least he didn't take it out to the field last night. I think it's going to take at least 500 PA before Moncada finds his groove as an 800 OPS or higher hitter. He's got plenty of time to figure it out patience will be key. Remember in two years from now he'll still only be about as old as TA is now. He's young and raw.
  2. it's probably a fluke but Delmonico seems like a heady player, fwiw
  3. One year the Sox will be in contention and Jose's annual late season power surge will really come in handy.
  4. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:28 PM) Timmy looks dangerous he's having some good ABs tonight, not just good swings, which is encouraging.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:31 PM) Nice swing by Yoan, tough luck yea real nice.
  6. Leury gave an interesting look to Delmonico there.
  7. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) Leury just looks like he belongs in the majors, which is shocking given where he was a few years ago. Even if he doesn't end up an everyday type guy (I'm not writing that off yet), he could still be a hell of a supersub. Plus he's got three years of control after this season, so if he does prove himself over the next 12 months, he could actually be worth something of decent value or possibly fit into the long-term mix if he's open to an extension. a remarkable season.
  8. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:54 PM) Moncada hitting 6th, Anderson 8th in today's Renteria roulette I need to see something from Moncada tonight. He's been awful the last few.
  9. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 02:12 PM) If I remember correctly, wasn't it Bevington who signaled to the bullpen for a pitching change but didn't have anybody warming up? lol yes.
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 06:55 AM) Tuesday: Phillies lost, White Sox lost, Giants won, Reds won(!) 47 days left Team (Games left) - Sox Magic Number to have higher pick: 1. Phillies(45) - 49 2. White Sox (46) 3. Giants(41) - 43 4. Reds(42) - 42 My odds: 50% -- 2nd pick 20% -- 1st pick 20% -- 3rd pick 10% -- 4th or higher.
  11. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 06:31 PM) Which part of this is getting called the "old school scouting worries" and which part is the "saber" part? A little lost on how to read this comment. Thanks. Rowand elucidated some -- it's the "small frame" knock. The saber side is just his performance in AAA and in MLB last year. He needs to hone his command, but the K rate is more than there.
  12. I cannot for the life of me reconcile the scouting opinion of Lopez -- will struggle to start, is a 3rd starter type -- with the results and actual stuff. I don't want to start a "saber verse scouting" war but in this case the old school scouting worries seem absurd to me.
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 12:16 PM) Taking my kids to see their first baseball game! Hopefully they see a White Sox no-hitter. Nice, I still remember my first game, going up the stairs that smelled like piss at old comiskey. Enjoy the day.
  14. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 09:37 AM) I like what I've seen from Delmonico so far...at the plate at least. I think we all know he's not going to be a .380 hitter, but I think he's working on earning himself a chance to be part of the 25-man next season. I could see him being the DH while getting a few starts at 3rd or in the outfield. There's no reason he's not. He's young, cost controlled, and has flashed if nothing else a strong platoon bat. I've probably said it a million times but other than some flashes from Moncada in spring, Delmonico was by far the loudest young Sox bat I saw. He has no position but if he can hit 280/340/480 it really doesn't matter, he's a MLB regular. I'm not at all convinced he is but the path is cleared to give him 500 PA next year to find out.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 04:49 PM) Thanks. I was waiting for somebody to tell me I have no right to cheer if the rebuild works since I'm against it. But u did not say that. Thanks. I'm pointing out what I believe to be true. The starters I mentioned all will work out. They all have the stuff and have Coop to work with. As far as the position players I think Eloy, Robert and Rutherford will all be major league stars. Not sure on Burger. TA and Moncada and Abreu will be stars. Collins will be a star. Avi and some of the other outfielders will cover the outfield/DH slots as well. A Gillaspie might be good as well as next season's overall No. 1 pick might be another star. If this all happens obviously my grade for the rebuild will go up. As of now, only Moncada is contributing and tho I like him, he's hitting .200. So we shall see. My grade could go from 2 to 9 or 10 if we make the WS and win the WS. It could be an 8 if we at least dominate the division. I'm not flip flopping . Right now it's a 2. So the lineup will feature 5-8 all-stars, the rotation will be lights out, but overall the rebuild is a 2 and there's no guarantee the Sox will contend even with 1/2 of the 25 man roster in the ASG. I'll order two of whatever you've had today.
  16. QUOTE (steveno89 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 03:00 PM) Overall grade is a fluid rating, but does take into account the likelihood of a player reaching their ceiling. A player with a "50" grade currently could still become a very good player, but there are questions as to how likely that happens. Just to tack on a bit, scouts use a 20-80 scale to rate tools and then given an overall grade based on those. A "50" overall grade for a prospect is pretty good as it means he has a decent chance of being an average MLB player. In Sickels' terminology this would probably be your "B+" prospect, a back end top 100 MLB guy -- Blake Rutherford for example, with a solid chance to a MLB regular, an outside chance at stardom, and an outside chance at just being a 4th OF or never even making MLB.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 14, 2017 -> 01:11 PM) Luckily the bark is louder than the actual number of people here. I think almost all realize that this is very very early in the process, and the Sox will be shopping in the discount bin again in this free agent market, and not hitting up Tiffany's. If anything the tear down should continue through the offseason and that means Avi should be available as well as Leury and Yolmer, if anybody is willing to give the Sox a decent deal. There's not much left to sell, but whatever is left should be made available. The 2019 offseason will be the time to start buying again.
  18. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 03:14 PM) So how's your state of mind for tonight's game? Well usually I smoke a nice fat bowl to unwind after work and tonight will be no different! I have to say this is the most fun I've had following the Sox (the last couple weeks since Moncada came up and now with Rodon and ReyLo as well) probably since the 2006 team. Even though the 2006 season ended too early it was still a ton of fun watching that offense. Even though this Sox team sucks ass and features losers like Shields it's so much fun, much moreso than I imagined really, watching the losses pile up while a few of the next generation show out like ReyLo, Rodon and Moncada. Hell, it's been enjoyable just watching bit younger guys like Avi, Engel, Leury and Yolmer hold their own and in some cases excel. TA has really been the only bitter pill this year imo but hopefully he can finish strong and put this year behind him.
  19. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 02:19 PM) Big Game James Shields making it 6 straight wins tonight I know it's James Shields and all, but I'd settle for a 5 game streak! Just ribbing ya man. I'm the idiot that was so stoned the other night I typed Dominican and saw Cuban in my head in reference to Moncada.
  20. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 10:10 AM) I want the first pick pretty badly but if these guys that are part of our next winning group are going to start winning us games already then I'm going to be happy about it. Agree
  21. Great debut with the Sox for Lopez. He looks great. Doesn't seem any doubt that he's 2-3rd starter material. He'd have to fall flat on his ass to become a reliever. The change he flashed tonight is more than enough. Hell, it looked about as good as Rodon's change for example.
