QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 07:36 PM) 31 walks in 471 plate appearances his rookie season is hardly Moneyball. 6.6%. Obviously, he picked it up after that, but I was thinking back to my impression of when he first came up with the Sox in 1995. In the minors, 168 walks in 1568 at-bats. 10.7% 11.1% walk rate over his entire major league career. Fine, in every aspect of their games (besides walk rate), they have similarities. Anderson has a better arm. The one area that Ray was excellent at defensively was going into shallow OF or into foul territory for those basket catches....he had huge range on those balls, but not as much on the infield/laterally. If you want to compare Anderson to another AA former Sox Lance Johnson is a much better comp. Great hit tool, tall rangy athlete, not much patience, decent amount of pop, not a great natural base stealer despite the speed.
-
Not even close to comparable in anything but potential WAR impact. Most of Durham's value came from his patience. Not sure about you but Franks' ridiculous OBP was always a conversation point when he was being talked about as one of the best batter's eyes ever along with Ted Williams.

QUOTE (NCsoxfan @ Jun 27, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) in fairness to the Beckham comparison, I think Anderson has a much quicker swing, livelier bat, etc than Gordon did. TA is a fast twitch athlete and that informs everything he does on the field. From his bat speed to his defense. He can get around on balls Gordon could only dream off and ditto with his range. Gordon was essentially an average athlete by MLB standards, TA is an outstanding one. TA has a lot of developing left to do but I don't see any reason to think his floor isn't decent starter. Unlike many guys the Sox draft there's enough raw athleticism that translates to production, including in his swing and the way he can clear his hips and get his hands on top of the ball, to think as long as he's healthy he'll always have a shot to hit 300 with 20 HR. I'm impressed. His bat speed continues to play at every level. Kid knows how to make hard contact.

Chicago White Sox vs Toronto Blue Jays 6/25/16

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2016 -> 04:44 PM) The 4 big name relievers were all unavailable according to Ventura are you f***ing kidding me? Man the f*** up. It's all hands on deck the rest of the year. This team just really pisses me off. Not sure if RV is covering his own ass but how about challenging your men to step up when guys are hurt in a big mid-summer game? I honestly question if these guys would p**** foot around like this if RV wasn't such a pushover. -

lmao, RV and this bullpen is like dipping a rag in kerosene and giving it to a pyromaniac a long with a pack of matches. Game was there to win, RV pretended it wasn't for a minute, and that cost them. Yea the pen sucks but that just makes using it smartly even more important. -

Good thing RV once again wrote off a game before it's over. -

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 25, 2016 -> 02:25 PM) I maintain that it helps when you throw strikes problem is, as we've found "a strike" varies. Having a good framing catcher helps, alot. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 06:28 PM) What is purpose of shuck? Seriuosly? When saladino went in to run for avila, navarro should have hit for schuck. What is the purpose of Avi? He's had almost 250 PA and his wRC+ of 81 is actually WORSE than last year. I'm sick of these bums. Why are we the only f***ing org that cannot find a cheap, halfway productive DH? Scouting, that's why. Scouting and player development.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 05:04 PM) Hahn is coming up with a new fireable offense every week if he does that. The White Sox system used to be good at least at producing serviceable relievers. Ynoa has some potential, but Beck just doesn't belong at the major league level. Albers is toast and his confidence is shot. Jennings and Duke have been the bright spots. Robertson is starting to teeter as well. Don Cooper isn't earning his paycheck anymore.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 23, 2016 -> 03:36 PM) Good call by Robin there, having him throw a sac fly instead of a grand slam. I would have called strikeout, though. what's your deal? He inserted Chris Beck into a high leverage situation. he does this repeatedly. It's playing with fire. It's also very unbecoming for a mod to troll like this imo.

signs of life. I'll take it. At the end of the day and season this is probably a .500 club. At least try and make it an interesting Sep. -
June 22nd Game Thread: White Sox @ Red Sox 6:10 CT

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 07:37 PM) For reference's sake that is the 32nd runner the Red Sox have lost on the bases this year. The White Sox have lost 23. sample bias, lol. Sox have a much lower "N" value. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 08:04 PM) @ChiTribKane With 2 runs so far tonight, White Sox end streak of giving Jose Quintana 1 run of support or less in 7 straight starts. jesus. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 02:49 PM) What is the percentage of advancing runners when not bunting? I'm guessing nowhere near 64%. In a tight game, depending on the hitter, there is no reason to moan about a bunt. The vast majority of the time you play for one run, you score one run. With such a s***ty offense giving away outs is pouring gasoline on a tire fire.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 22, 2016 -> 02:37 PM) Is it worth noting again that the White Sox are only right now successful on 64% of their bunt attempts (which is right at the league average)? 1/3 of the times guys try to bunt, they fail to successfully sacrifice before there are 2 strikes on the batter, on average. Some guys are better than that, but some guys are also much worse. So about 1/3 of the time the bunt is called for, the out is given away without accomplishing anything. For comparison, in the runner on first, 1 out or less case, the White Sox hit into a DP 11% of the time. exactly! Bunt defenders seem to treat the players like robots that will always get a good bunt down. Guess what, it's 2016 and most MLB players suck ass at bunting. That is must mind blowing that 34% of the time the Sox are just saying "here, have this out". f***ing s*** man. I'm glad I took a step back from this season I'm getting enraged again at the stupidity of this org.
-
Hard to believe it's 2016 and people are still defending bunts. There are very limited times the bunt is useful. Those times are in the 7th, 8th and 9th when you are tied or behind by one run and you have a mediocre hitter at the plate. That RV is bunting in the 1st inning with the guy he puts 3rd is absolute insanity.

QUOTE (VAfan @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:37 PM) I wonder why so many of the players the Sox have acquired have underperformed once they got here. Even the great guys like Abreu are no longer pulling their weight. When has Todd Frazier ever been a .198 hitter? Even Eaton just totally stunk it up at the beginning of last season. Same with Melky for most of last season. This strikes me as the MAJOR problem for the White Sox. On paper, the Hahn moves have not been so bad if the players he acquired performed to projections. I mean, when has David Robertson ever blown a 7-1 lead in the 9th inning? It's just bizarre what has happened. The topper, of course, is the James Shields acquisition. The guy has been a horse for years. 200 innings could be counted on. Not a top notch guy any longer, but you would think he'd be a plus as a 4th or 5th starter. Yet he's looking like one of the most spectacular flame outs in major league history. BIZARRE. the MLB coaching staff is bottom 1/3 in the league that's why. Probably bottom 5.

Robin Ventura should definitely, certainly be fired today
chitownsportsfan replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 21, 2016 -> 04:16 PM) it's positive to hear that Hahn has such self-awareness. It's frustrating imo. Ventura isn't part of the solution. That means he is part of the problem. Hahn's moves have generally been mediocre at best but RV's tactical decisions actively hurt the team on a weakly basis. His leadership, while less tangible, appears to be awful as well given how many players under-perform on a yearly basis under him. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:55 PM) Just waking up from a nap to see this. Way to have your managers back even if you're close to firing him. This doesn't shock me however because this organization is in shambles and ran like s***. It's no wonder this team doesn't win. They don't know how to from top to bottom. I expect another s***ty four more years unless they catch lightning in a bottle like 2005 or 2008. right, seems like the pressure is getting to everyone. s***ty answer by a guy that should know better and know exactly what he's going to say about RV the moment he walks into the interview room. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) They won't even give him a vote of confidence. For an organization that doesn't like to telegraph its moves, that is a jarring non-statement. Hahn has to be smarter than this. You either give him the dreaded vote of confidence or you spout a platitude like "we evaluate everyone on a daily basis blah blah blah". -

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 06:02 PM) Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane 2m2 minutes ago Rick Hahn gave same line on Robin Ventura: "I don’t think it’s in anybody’s best interest to comment on the status of anybody in uniform." what a f***ing clown show. -
SouthsideSox Takedown of White Sox Organization

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Jun 20, 2016 -> 03:10 PM) I'm guessing he has the wrong link: http://www.southsidesox.com/2016/6/20/1197...-jerry-its-over Larry is great. He basically said everything perfectly and didn't put the blame on anyone but where it should go -- at the ENTIRE ORG. There needs to be sweeping changes. Yea RV sucks tactically, yea Hahn has made some poor additions, yea the scouting staff sucks -- THEY ALL SUCK. I also like that he pointed out how much less success Cooper is having finding "his guys". Cooper is far from blameless and the fact that nobody even really considers him part of the problem is another problem. The entire staff needs brooming. -
White Sox will not win until their players produce
chitownsportsfan replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
When almost every single player under performs projections, both fan and saber, for years, it's time to question the man leading those players. This is a pattern and the pattern is that under RV the team underachieves relative to the talent on the roster. Most people on this forum projected the team to be around 82-88 wins. If they win less than that there is NOT A CHANCE IN HELL YOU BRING BACK RV YET AGAIN. The White Sox are basically Einstein's definition of insanity. They do the same thing over and over and over that doesn't work. INB4 Dick Allen's "but what if they fire RV and it turns out he was really a HOF manager". -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jun 15, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Oh this season was over a couple weeks ago. I'm only watching to see Anderson. This team is awful, pathetic, can't win divisional games with the exception of Minnesota, the manager is a f***ing moron on a daily basis and the organization could give a s*** about an actual direction to choose.
