  1. what happened to Carrasco?
  2. lol where does Flowers buy his April BABIP dust?
  3. good thing they brought in Vince Coleman. How about we make COMMON SENSE par for the course on the base paths. Goodness I don't give two f***s if Jose and Laroche are station to station. Get the guys that can run running. Get the guys that can't to stop getting thrown out at 3rd.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:59 PM) It's a classic. He's bashing Robin for playing him, yet saying he would play him tonight in CF. Finally the post that puts you on my ignore. Took you long enough. You're the master of strawman arguments and I'm tired of knocking them down. If you can't see the difference between using a super sub with platoon advantages to give regulars days off over the course of the season verse starting him over your promising rookie (with no platoon advantage as well) in game 7 after an off day -- well f*** off.
  5. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:39 PM) That is clear to you through 3.7% of the season? Yes.
  6. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 01:58 PM) Since you posted this: what a luxury having a guy like Bonafacio is. Can play almost every position and hits well enough to where if you had to plug him in for a month it wouldn't be a complete black hole in the lineup. Seriously the difference between him and the guys they trotted out last year (Leury mostly) is probably 2 WAR. Can't say enough what an amazing job Hahn did fixing pretty much every weakness, including bench utility guy. This post has been edited by chitownsportsfan: Mar 13, 2015 -> 03:33 PM have you changed your mind? Now you don't think he should play against 80% of MLB pitching. His value is in giving every day guys a day off all over the diamond. In fact, I probably would have started him today in CF. Given Adam another day to clear his head. Clearly Ventura doesn't know how to use him and yea, it's frustrating.
  7. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 02:41 PM) He is, but didn't play against Milone or Duffy. Don't get me started. Sometimes I wonder WTH is with the relationship between the manager and FO of this club. It's like, they spent good money on Bonifacio and he's a valuable tool used correctly -- has anyone mentioned it to Robin?
  8. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 14, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Let's start a winning streak and take it to Detroit. This is a break out game for Abreu (2HRs 5 RBIs and 4 hits). Just a little tidbit about Avi: his updated ZIPS is now for over 1.1 WAR and he's already been worth .2 fWAR in 6 games. Most of that is baserunning and hitting but some of it his defense just being "bad" instead of "brutal". Keep it up kid. I love me some Avi hope he starts on the South Site for the next 5+ years.
  9. It's an imperfect metaphor at best given that most successful lawyers are great showmen. I'm not a fan of Robin the manager but it's not because of a lack of table pounding.
  10. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 06:08 PM) anyone who is seeing this and really thinking about it, should see this to be the case. yes the org spent a lot on players to make this team what it is. but, unless this org has the unlimited funds of the LAD or BOS, the sox has to keep an eye on the overall budget. they can not upset the subtle status-quo of the salary. this is seen if and when some salary will come up to either resign them or to replace them. Eh, the Sox aren't really in a position (and many teams aren't) where you're gonna have a ton of arb eligible guys coming through the system and thus rising costs of your core roster have to get big raises. They bought out Jose, Sale, Eaton, Q's arb years already and those are the guys that could have gotten quite pricey. You've got Rodon up for super 2 what else? Avi might get pricey but if he plays that well they will probably sign him long term anyways. Danks will be coming off the books, possibly Ramirez as well. I'm not really seeing much of a budget problem and in fact there should be money available to replace those guys if they so choose. The real key will be if Anderson can replace Ramirez in house. If he can, that lifts the entire roster's outlook. MLB 2.0-4.0 WAR SSs certainly don't grow on trees.
  11. SSS had a nice writeup on his early struggles. Basically pitchers have just been really damn good against him attacking the zone. Plus yea, as mentioned his BABIP is .086. A lot of soft contact but he's also had some bad luck. If he's still sucking ass in June, yea, it's a problem.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 05:31 PM) They should whenever possible. Keeping payroll under control is exactly what allowed the spending spree this winter. Yea but what's the highest super 2 ever paid out? We're talking like 3-5 million in arb verse what the 512k min? Might as well trade Bonificio to make up the difference Robin ain't gonna use him anyways!
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 13, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) that mean, assuming i am right, the sox are going to make sure his pitches are perfected. not a trail by fire good. Nobody really gives a s*** about the super 2, including me and almost certainly the Sox. The extra year of guaranteed control however is huge. Rodon is going to be up in a few weeks, almost guaranteed, if he keeps pitching the way he is and Noesi and Danks keep getting shelled.
  14. Good job nice to see Beckham hit that HR anything he gives the Sox is a bonus and Robin seems pretty damn intent on getting him 10 PA a week. 2-4 actually feels OK. Certainly not a good start, but after 0-4 it could have been a disaster. Avi's bat looks nice and he's doing it his way -- lots of top hand and BABIP. Eventually you'd love to see more power but for now I'll keep taking singles and doubles. His speed certainly plays more on the bases than in the field.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2015 -> 12:23 AM) Wish DeAza would have come out of the gate like this LAST year...sigh. Enigmatic. classic change of scenery guy imo.
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 05:41 PM) The shadows help pitchers with a good breaking ball like him. Do they help find the strike zone? We should try it out with our other relievers
  17. Soto looks like he could be a nice scrap heap find. Need the guys at the top of the order to get their head out of their asses though. Eaton and Melky have been horse s***.
  18. Thank god they pulled this one out. Now, with Sale going, there's a solid chance it's simply a poor 2-4 start instead of a complete disaster.
  19. haha it worked. Robin is a genius.
  20. uh, swing the god damn bat bro.
  21. wait why the f*** isn't Soto batting?
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 11, 2015 -> 03:52 PM) And then they signed a bunch of RH guys for their bench who can play multiple positions who are the perfect guys to use as platoon partners with him. No kidding. It's almost like the manager isn't following the clear plan.
  23. Other than Jose, Conor might be the best pure hitter on this club. Just don't play him against LHP and he might OPS 830.
  24. f***ing ump was ready to call him out too bad he was safe either way. good saved a replay delay.
