  1. We could have kept avi for millions less if we're looking for 1.5-3 WAR types in RF.
  2. what team looking to trade for relief is going to give you major league ready players? ZERO.
  3. About a year ago you could squint and see a really good utility guy in Yolmer. That vision was proven an illusion. His power has gone missing from a respectable ISO around .120 to now sitting at .70 That's 50 points of OPS he's lost. On top of that his defense peaked early and it's been a slow decline: he's on pace to have his fewest run saves by fangraphs metric since his 2016. He'll get non-tendered most likely then picked up by somebody at a better price, there is no doubt of that. When guys like Gordon Beckham are still floating around you know there's a 25 man spot for a 650 OPS 2B somewhere on some shit team. But he has no role here in 2020 and forward. There's already a better utility guy on the roster with Leury and obviously 2B is Madrigal's unless something really bad happens with his development (injury or otherwise) in the next 10 months.
  4. Humor me. If the Sox needed to lose game 162 in order to draft #1 in a year an Alex Rodriguez level talent was available at 1 would you do it? This is the rest of the 1st round to give you an idea of the idealized scenario I'm envisioning. It was mostly A-Rod and a bunch of busts. If you say no I'm not sure you're a rational fan. Games are just battles. Seasons (plural) are the war. Sometimes you make strategic retreats. That's what tanking is.
  5. Yea the only thing that I didn't like was the too openly partisan crowd.
  6. Read the first 30 pages or so this weekend of a friend's copy. Interesting stuff, especially how most of this stuff was started "bottom up". Some of the training methods and injury prevention stuff was bandied about by one of our trainers (school basically had one full time trainer on staff and the baseball team would get him once a week) at the DIII level when I was playing, including the weighted ball stuff and long toss. Will def finish it when he's done. Moneyball seemed (at least from my perspective) to have been written 5-7 years too late. This book feels like it was written as the zeitgeist is happening.
  7. On paper the Sox were likely to get swept given those pitching matchups. Oh well. The season is going to get tougher and probably less enjoyable from this point on: I'd suggest everybody reset expectations and just try and enjoy the progress because at times I'm expecting it's going to be ugly down the stretch.
  8. Totally I'm about to get on ferry to the peninsula doing some car camping and kayaking out there. This team isn't that good to plan around.
  9. I'm not a MLBer obviously but if someone called in off waivers was batting cleanup after batting 220 in AAA I'd kinda question WTF my manager was doing.
  10. so reed comes in and is ahead of eloy now? I mean whatever, rick going to rick.
  11. Yea fuck that. Was listening to some Chicago sports talk radio the other day and a Cubs beat guy said Addison is like a dark cloud hovering over the clubhouse. Shunned by team and media alike. We don't need that and IMO that POS should be out of the league or should have faced a full 162 game ban. Plus he's now dogshit on the field. He has an OPS+ around 80 the last two seasons. Pass.
  12. moncada and mccann were on fiers and oakland pitching but that was about it. too many easy outs. yolmer has taken a real step back this year and cordell is nothing special just a decent 4th OF. Need TA back asap. To their credit oakland played great defense (including positioning) otherwise the Sox probably have a run or two before the 9th. it's pathetic the org has nobody better than Nova ot eat these innings.
