  1. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) They probably already do. I doubt it. Even lobbyists wouldn't want to associate with a team that has a racist name.
  2. QUOTE (Y2HH @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 10:27 AM) I'll solve this for the NFL, change the name of the team to the Washington Whiteskins. It's a team name, nobody cares. I'd rather have the Oilers back anyway. I dunno, there's plenty of oil money flowing into DC but do the lobbyists really want to pay for the team too?
  3. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 10:06 PM) Just but all the tickets in a raffle are the same. All have the same chances of winning. Not every draft pick has the same odds of not only making the bigs, but producing. Pick #1 has a better chance than pick #30. And I would also believe that pick #7 has a better chance than pick #12. I wonder if anyone has done a study yet to see not only % of draft picks to reach the big leagues, 1 through 30, but also average career WAR by draft pick, 1 through 30. I'd be interested in taking an hour or two out of my night and doing this for like a 10 year span or something. You just need to google. Alternate presentation Yet another. For more, I recommend Google.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 05:04 PM) Age makes zero impact with this player. He took over 3 years off. So equate his development to a 21 year old as that is the experience he has. You will find no one who will work as hard as he does. This is still hard to say 100%, because if he's in a league with 20 year olds and he's 24, physically his body is probably more developed than most of the people in the league with him, wouldn't you say?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) This is really cool. http://www.cbsnews.com/news/experimental-w...fore-quake-hit/ The only places that can afford that are rich countries like Mexico.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 10:52 AM) It is a balancing act. What I don't want to see if those losses come at the expense of development. For example, if you are the White Sox, and Avi Garcia hits .100 with no power for September, what do you do? Maybe it gets you a better draft pick, but if it comes at the expense of the team's future, that isn't good. I'd much rather see games won because guys like Sanchez, Flowers, Garcia, etc are playing well, than for the kids to go into the tank and us to get a better draft pick. Usually to lose games, you need to have players play losing baseball. If it is just the pen blowing games, fine. Any more than that, and we do more harm than good for the future of this organization. It isn't as simple as Lose Baby Lose! Conveniently, we have a way for both of these to happen known as the bullpen!
  7. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 10:24 AM) Edit: Appologies for this being f***ered up. I'm on a giggle tablet and sometimes things get messed up on this stupid thing. Not sure what happened. You knocked off the last quote tag, fixed it for you.
  8. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 10:12 AM) I'm a Beckham fan, and while I do think sometimes position being played will affect your offense, I don't think it had anything to do with Gordon's struggles. He did hit well for periods as a 2B. He overthinks. His swing gets long, and he struggles. Earlier this year, when he got his average to about .300, his stroke was short and sweet. Unfortunatley, I'm not a Beckham fan, because his periods of hitting well didn't last. We have had lots of failed prospects who hit well for short stretches; he just got more chances than any of the others.
  9. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 09:59 AM) OK. Let's say Rodon isn't ready. Trading Danks means that not only does his spot in the rotation need to be replaced but Carroll's as well. And that's if were OK with Noesi. So we would be looking to sign/trade for at least two maybe even three rotation starters. Now let's say Rodon is ready. He immediately replaces Danks and now were looking at replacing only one or possibly two starters. Rodon would negate money being spent for an addition starter therefore that money could be used to get a left handed bat into the lineup. It just gives Hahn more flexibility if Hahn can immediately replace Danks 14M salary with Rodon's league minimum of roughly 600k. That savings right there is worth two good bullpen arms so not only is the rotation upgraded but the pen as well. I am completely ok with replacing John Danks's spot in the rotation if the White Sox have $14 million in addition to spend. That would be a major way to upgrade the roster. I also am completely ok with Noesi being put at the back of the rotation. He's been an above average 5th starter already and there's clear potential for improvement as he continues to learn how to deal with big league hitters. I have a real problem with trying to upgrade Noesi's spot on the free agent market. Noesi might give 1 (or even 1+) WAR next year for the league minimum. In other words, he could well be expected to be worth $5 million+. To upgrade that spot on the free agent market, we'd have to spend $15 million ish if we were trying to find a 3 WAR pitcher, in addition to likely losing a draft pick. In other words, we'd be spending an extra $15 million and losing a draft pick to get only 2 WAR worth of production beyond where we currently sit. That math might work for a team that misses the playoffs by 1 game this year and needs to find somewhere to upgrade, but that's a poor allocation of resources for a team in the boat the White Sox are in. If Rodon is going to take a rotation spot this Sept. and next spring, then it should be the one currently inhabited by Caroll et al. We have an open rotation slot as it is, Danks's status does not impact that.
  10. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 09:37 AM) Oh but I think he very much does. The Sox have made known in the past they would prefer to not have 4 lefties in the rotation and Danks would clearly be the odd man out if Rodon is indeed ready. Then the Sox clear even more payroll space by trading Danks to possibly sign a right handed FA pitcher or trade for one that may have a higher salary, or both for that matter. Basically it would make an already flexible payroll even more flexible and allow Hahn to be even more creative with taxes this winter. If the Sox have an opportunity to move Danks's salary I believe they should do so regardless of whether or not Rodon is ready. I think the logic here is pretty straightforwards. John Danks currently is a #4-#5 starter who is being paid like a #3 starter. If the White Sox could move his salary out of the way, that would free up the money that could be used to replace him with a #3 starter who is performing like a #3 starter or, perhaps with a little more of a financial sweetener, replace him with a #2 starter. This would be an effective upgrade to the roster regardless of whether or not Rodon is ready. Thus, if Danks's contract could be moved off the roster, I'm now convinced it should be done regardless of any other circumstances.
  11. QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 08:21 AM) f*** yeah to all of this. IMO, the Sox are not rushing Rodon at all, I think he really is that damn good and ready. Another benefit of bringing him up in September is to see how he responds. If Rodon responds well you can bet Hahn will be shopping Danks pretty hard this winter while assembling a much better team to put on the field in 2015. f*** the wussie don't start the clock s***. If he's ready, then pitch him! Rodon shouldn't impact how the Sox deal with Danks.
  12. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 08:28 AM) Does it really matter? Short of Hillary getting implicated in some very major scandal between now and Nov 2016, there isn't a Republican candidate that can beat her. Romney won't fare any worse than Perry, Paul, Rubio, Bush, Christie or whoever else gets nominated. Lots of people said similar things about Hillary and the Dem nomination (and Rudy and the Republican nomination) circa 2006-2007.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 25, 2014 -> 02:59 AM) People get on me for being repetitious. What about you? We get it. You are not embarrassed by the pathetic play of your favorite team and want them to lose to get a better phantom draft pick. Why do you have to offend me by posting that fact all the time. Just.Win.White.Sox. I saved $200 this year by not buying the MLB Extra Innings package for the first time since 2005.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) That is nice math counting the DR as "pro ball". Both are extremely young, and coming from backgrounds where the fundamentals of the game aren't really taught. They aren't playing organized ball in the same way that pros in the US are. The good news is that they're with an organization with a strong record, particularly at the major league level, of immersion in fundamentals, so we can have confidence in them developing these fundamental skills with (spits out water while laughing couldn't finish it).
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 06:33 PM) Once again facts. Stop it, you will make the complainers look as incompetent as they think RV is. Plus the decision worked so well that it's another feather in your cap.

  17. QUOTE (farmteam @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 02:09 PM) Depending on the source of the law, he (well, the President) may have that right. He absolutely does. Law enforcement resources aren't infinite, so there absolutely must be a choice of the level of resources to commit to fighting any particular crime.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 02:07 PM) He's 22 and playing in Yankee Stadium in the 4th game of his career. That's about the usual point where we declare players to be worthless, untalented, lost causes with terrible approaches and say that they should be released.
  19. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 24, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Great place to be a contractor right now. As long as you own a gas mask.
  20. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 08:43 PM) I'd hate to be a poor storeowner. They rebuild and restock and boom, this time their buildings will be burned to the ground. Brick is hard to burn and a smart place should have insurance to cover that. The buildings should survive.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 08:45 PM) I just think there are a lot of ways chaos can ensue in the next 10-20 years. To me, the idea that this compares to someone accidentally pushing the wrong button or giving the wrong signal of militarism during the latter 20 years of the cold war is lunacy. The chances of mankind annihilating the full planet from almost anything you've mentioned is extremely remote. Even China doesn't have the warheads to do that. The only 2 nations ever to have that kind of power are the US and the Soviet Union. Both of those countries have removed ~90% of their nuclear weapons since the peak and the level of conflict between them, even with Putin being somewhat nuts, has dropped hugely. The chances of an accident have also dropped dramatically, and that's probably the most likely way it would have happened.
  22. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 08:41 PM) Wasn't Gordon Beckham a top 10 pick? Crapshoot. If we'd been willing to move him he'd have been the centerpiece of a deal for Adrian Gonzalez a few years ago.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 07:07 PM) Mods cannot use the search function. Q used the google search function. "you like this"
  24. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 03:28 PM) He is a space eater though, he makes it easier for Mathews to run around unchecked Even if they're not great...those 3-4 big Nose Tackles are really hard to find. That might be the rarest person in the NFL. If there were more of those guys I think more teams would run 3-4 exclusively.
  25. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 23, 2014 -> 03:03 PM) I wonder if the city will burn itself down if the cop isn't ultimately charged. After Monday's funeral you'd think it will be quiet there until the cop gets off unscathed. When it comes out in October that they're not filing charges, unless they make an absolutely overwhelming case and put everything forward to convince the public that the guy completely deserved it, things will blow up like crazy. And they've shown absolutely no willingness to be open or honest so far, so there's zero reason to think they will in the future.
