  1. QUOTE (Lillian @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) I'm sorry. I'm confused. Caulfield says that Ethier's contract is horrible, and you say that the Dodgers would not trade him. Which is it? The Dodgers don't care about money right now. For any team that does, ever, that is a horrible contract. That may well be a horrible contract for the Dodgers in a year.
  2. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 03:18 PM) Te'o has pretty normal size for a inside linebacker. I really don't think that is the problem. Again, he'll probably bee a fine LB, but "normal" simply isn't what you look for in the first round.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 03:02 PM) I never saw it, because one look at the trailers made it obvious the movie was complete s***. I went ahead and watched it when it was on a free preview. It was as bad as you could imagine. It was a joke.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Maybe the only thing we're clearly missing is the equivalent of Brandon McCarthy in our minor league system...right? His name is Chris Sale.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 02:28 PM) Okay, I'll drop that, as long as Balta stops using Astros' tv ratings for one game in September when the Texans were playing to use that as a reason not to "restructure" the roster. "Restructure" = "worst team in the league for 3 years and a losing team for 6-7 years?" Nice euphemism.
  6. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) That's a more legitimate question and it's why I wouldn't want to use the 20th pick on him but I really don't think he'll bust in the NFL. Only someone who watches all his tape could tell. I think the INT's say that he has good football instincts but his athleticism isn't where you'd want it to be if you're drafting a position like LB in the first round. LB is a position where people are moved in and out all the time. If you're drafting a LB in the first round it better be someone who can take over and dominate a game from that position and "Ball skills" isn't all you need for that, you have to legitimately be faster and stronger than everyone else on the field.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 02:09 PM) But the Astros have better attendance by 2000 fans a game... 20,131 - 19,846 = 285, ≠ 2000.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 01:35 PM) I can't imagine how bad the ratings will be for tonight's game, but who cares as long as the Sox win! They'll still put Astros games to shame.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) yeah it's the same thing that's been circling around forever. hence, "lol politico" or as it's also known, "tiger beat on the potomac" That means nothing to me?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 01:48 PM) Didn't realize Hunter and his agent were the ones who approached the Tigers about him joining their team. Pretty cool for the Tigers to have the type of organization that's known for its drive to get back to the World Series and a winning culture. LOL, and spending big money on veteran players has nothing to do with taht.

  12. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 12:49 PM) Hasn't this story been running since 2010? edit: also obligatory "lol politico" Here's a long enough explanation that I'm not going to add an excerpt.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 25, 2013 -> 09:25 AM) I've seen compelling arguments that part of Dunn's problem this year is hitting the ball on the ground too much...I wouldn't encourage it. I'm getting more convinced that his problem is he's going after pitches that are up in the strike zone and not timing them well. Last year he put the ball in play on 43% of at bats, this year he's putting it in play on 51% of at bats, and right now his percentage of ground ball outs is the highest of his career, so you're probably on to something as well.
  14. QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) IU now one under the scholarship limit. Guess all the worrying was for nothing. Any chance they'll be able to surprise people and fill that with another solid recruit?
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 08:58 PM) 20 reviews in, IRON MAN 3 at 95% on RT 96% at 45 reviews in. Good, I was getting nervous after I heard a whisper or two of a negative review.
  16. (This one blew up while I wasn't around, but getting Y2 and 2K arguing about investment strategies produced some interesting results, btw). And yes, the Mortgage interest deduction has become terrible policy and should be destroyed and replaced with more intelligent and cost effective methods of subsidizing housing purchases. Unfortunately, removing it without severely damaging the housing market isn't easy, so a bill phasing it out over a 35 year period would be my favorite method...that would just require Congress to not tinker with it over 35 years. Thus, getting rid of it becomes completely impractical as well.
  17. The discussion of how many different fees were buried into various mutual funds and the discussion of how little information you actually have about what is being purchased and sold by the mutual fund options made available in the plans I have available discussed in that frontline ep. are pretty much exactly what I was talking about when we had our last retirement-related discussion. If nothing else, that made a pretty compelling case for moving everything into index funds.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 06:07 PM) Something changed for him starting last season. He seems so comfortable always at the plate. Compeltely overhauled batting stance for one thing.
  19. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 05:57 PM) Rios is really the real deal. I liked Dunn's approach with 3 BB's today. If he can get back to somewhat of normalcy, for him anyway, we miht be seeing Dunn ready to break out. Good job by the pitching and Alexei with good leather. We win and that's good Dunn actually fouled off a couple of high velocity pitches today (saw him foul one at 95 backwards), so he was actually catching up with people. He still swung and missed at pitches at the top of the zone more than once, but when the ball was lower, he was on it. He also told the Indians announcers that he has been doing some "mechanical tweaks" over the last few days.

  21. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 04:41 PM) Please correct me if I'm wrong but isn't de aza involved in the majority? Like him not yielding after he's called off He almost has to be if it involves 2 OF's... But when he's playing CF, he shouldn't be the one yielding, that's the rule.
  22. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 04:30 PM) LOL hawk annoyed about the outfielders almost colliding He should be, that's happened way, way too often already this season, it's only a matter of time before someone really gets hurt.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 24, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) Want to see no part of Keppinger in the outfield... There would be plenty of at bats for him moving around the infield and giving each IF a day off every week.
