QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:58 AM) Rose and Rip have been running NBA plays for a long time, and can run these plays in their sleep. They need to rest and can "figure it out" against a s*** Knicks or Bucks squad this weekend. After watching them against Dallas, I really disagree. There was absolutely no chemistry between the 2 when they were on the court together. You could easily convince yourself that Rip was better with Rose off the court because the offense ran through Rip.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) Yeah, but they compensated by trading an actual prospect instead of a bag of balls... Now the Rios situation is much different because he is owed far more money, but if they didn't want to pay for Rios' salary, they could certainly include some cost-controlled prospects or young players instead of eating salary. For instance, there might be a team would be willing to take Rios and most of his salary if you included Addison Reed and Nestor Molina and Viciedo with him... It's just paying with different assets... Unfortunately in this case, the Red Sox couldn't be that team, because Rios's salary would easily push them into Luxury Tax territory.

QUOTE (kev211 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 11:18 PM) I hope the Bulls sit everyone tomorrow. We don't need our players getting attacked by the scumbag Pacers. I know the sentiment, but especially Derrick and Rip desperately need time on the floor together.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:08 AM) They still managed to get the Cubs to pick up the entire value of the contract, minus the pro-rated minimum salary. Well yeah, but look at the guys running the Cubs Front office. They can't have any idea what they're doing, did you see the mess they left in the last place they ran?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 10:32 PM) [removed snark] Frontline is the best show on television Here's part 1: Watch Money, Power and Wall Street: Part One on PBS. See more from FRONTLINE. I hadn't heard the Georgia story at all, or some of the details about how these setups were originally designed and how they rapidly began to be abused. This was a really great telling of how this industry blew itself up while getting government to turn a blind eye. I haven't gotten to Episode 2 yet. Watch Money, Power and Wall Street: Part Two on PBS. See more from FRONTLINE.

How will all these new tv rights deals affect the Sox?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:07 AM) I know what you are getting at, but those mean two different things. Value on paper is not cash. And while that is true, is it really that difficult for people to buy shares in these organizations if they actually have the money and interest in doing so? I.e. is it that hard to cash out some of that value for the members of the ownership group? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 09:03 AM) NO one is going to trade for Rios in April unless we picked up the entire deal. See also, Byrd, Marlon. Of Course, Byrd was actually hitting well enough to make Morel look good.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 12:25 PM) But Tony Stark isnt even close to being developed yet from a comic standpoint. there is so much yet to happen in his character, his disagreements with allies like Cap and Thor seem to be woven into the Avengers, but there is a lot more coming. His alcoholism, health(nanotechnology), fights with the government, war machine. Iron Man 2 was decent, but it was fluff. it was a small bridge to the Avengers. You dont like the Hulk, so its hard for me to argue his worth on screen with you. Some characters dont come off as well to others, i get that. I dont understand the disdain for Captain America, I had a Indiana Jones-esque feeling throughout the entire movie, i loved the pace and the growth of his character. I think part of the problem with Ironman 2 is that they actually tried to cram in too many of the plot lines you talked about, and so it came off that none of them, especially the villain, were really dealt with in depth.

Well, the good news is that it sounds like at least a portion of the stolen funds will remain stolen. As it should be.

2 straight Morel games with a hit and 0 K! -
Johan Santana has now had 4 starts this year. The Metropolitans have supported him with exactly 0 runs.

That whole article is talking about him not wanting to be Ohman, coming out of the pen.

Frontline did another just stellar look at the meltdown and the shadow banking system/derivatives market tonight. I'll add a link or video tomorrow.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 09:44 PM) Awesome bullpen management Ozzie. Lefty right matchups on all of them?

Bard pitched from the bullpen as a save this pen move last weekend, but he is currently still slated to start against the White Sox on Friday (as of this morning, at least). -

Humber has left the team today to be with his expectant wife, but is currently still on tap for his Thursday scheduled start. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:57 PM) I have no idea but I do know Alex Rios' performance this year has nothing to do with anybody except Alex Rios. And so if Ned Yost's kid spent every other night during ST drinking with Hosmer, you'd say that Yost did nothing wrong?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:48 PM) Yes I blame a lot of the returning players. They deserve the blame, not the guy who managed them. That's like blaming Ned Yost for Hosmer's slow start. Has nothing to do with Yost. Might be, how do you know that Yost got him in a good position during spring training? How do you know that he got the coaching he needed?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:41 PM) You are a fan of Alex Rios?? Alex will have to do this all year to make me a believer. I don't even know that I'd be a believer if he did this all year. If we went into next offseason after Rios had put up an .850 OPS and played well enough that he should have been an all star, would anyone really believe he could be counted on to put up decent numbers again next year? Or would we all label him a giant question mark for 2013?

Guess an offday for Dunn makes sense. Especially since it's a lefty on the mound. 8 righthanded bats and 1 lefty. I'd say that's still better than the classic 9 righty, score nothign off Johan lineup. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:40 PM) Dunn, Rios, Beckham, bullpen, etc. All of whom are...still here!

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:26 PM) I'd be surprised if Chairman Reinsdorf doesn't operate the Sox and Bulls as a single entity financially. The Bulls are a cash cow in a league that has a salary cap (40% of basketball related income is it? Sweet deal for the owners.) Some of those massive Bulls revenues make it over to 35th street and owning the network is probably one way how. MLB teams have basically become a cash cow as well, if you're considering franchise values (and you'd be silly not to). -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 24, 2012 -> 06:38 PM) 1.) I assign a lot of blame to Ozzie, but actually more blame to the players. Well, considering they're the ones who are gone, I'm surprised you think that so much of last year's problem was Carlos Quentin and Mark Buehrle.
