Konerko: Sox can be successful without making playoffs
Balta1701 replied to Soxfest's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 03:48 PM) If Chris Sale, Addison Reed, and Dayan Viciedo live up to their potential, I will be satisfied for 2012. Those are three elite talents that by themselves could put the White Sox on the map to relevance again. I'd be half surprised if Sale put up 150 good innings, but I'll be really surprised if Viciedo comes out and puts up like a .900 OPS. Between being moved around from positions and the thumb injury last year, there's still development that needs to happen with him. Hopefully we can play him enough this year that he gets a chance to really do that developing. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 03:04 PM) Giants are at the Mariners that weekend (June 14th-17th). I'll definitely check out the local breweries. Neither of us have ever been there (save for me being in the airport a few months ago) and we don't have anything planned right now. We'll be coming off several days at Yosemite, so a whole bunch of hiking and walking probably isn't going to happen. If that'd be a "definitely" on your list, just do the Toronado. Trust me. Or go trust Yelp, Yelp loves that place. And seriously, hanging out by the ballpark and taking a look at the bay right next door is really nice.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 03:02 PM) For Best Actress, yes. But there was obviously Hattie McDaniel. Again, that still doesn't explain Denzel. I know this is personal to you, being an actor and all, but it's quite obvious that they make a bigger deal of it when it's a minority actor. 2nd academy award for an african american, first since Sidney in the 60's.

If you're a local beer type person, hop on the local public transit Muni line, I usually wind up on the N line but almost any of them get you to the right spot, hop off just after you get through the tunnels and you'll be in the Haight area. About 3 blocks away there's a great bar called the Toronado that I've been to a couple times. Dozens of locals on tap. If you're there in the evening and cheap, there's a really solid place to get a sausage next door. Find a table at the Toronado, order your sausage(s) while someone holds that table, wait/drink about 10 minutes, then come back and get them. Drink night away. And you'll probably want another sausage. But be warned that the sausage place closes early (like 9, IIRC) If you're just south of Downtown, there's a place called Rosco's that I keep going to for lunch every time I'm there for the annual convention. Bit hard to get to/find if you're not in the area, but if you're close...yay. There's really no excuse for you being at this site and not catching a Giants game. Or at least visiting the ballpark. I believe I passed the hotel Mark Twain worked at while walking to the ballpark. Just F***ing gorgeous. For a great nighttime view, the "Mark Hopkins hotel" sits on top of one of those hills and has a very nice but kinda expensive martini bar/food place at the top. Great view. What else can I offer?

If one wants to spend 2-3 days covering the touristy things on the Manhattan list, is it plausible to stay outside the city, perhaps on the Jersey side, and then commute in?

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:36 PM) ...more than what we have now? By a long shot, yes.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) Ozzie had his faults, but I always liked his policy that when an injured guy says he's ready, then he still gets another day off. That rule went out the window the last couple years. But yes, I liked it too.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread

QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:27 PM) I'd rather they skip Sale's spot in the first half a few times rather than shut him down in September. Unless there is a pre-decided, Strasbourgian innings limit for Sale (And so far they haven't said there would be), I think they'll push him until he actaully looks tired. -
So basically the 4 of us should update as we go and whoever is the last of us will wind up being the lucky one who gets all the knowledge?
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:31 PM) I think there's something distinct between Ron Paul's eccentric viewpoints and the myriad ways in which they are wrong and the complete lack of knowledge about almost everything expressed by Palin. Very much true, but you can't tell me that his presence on a national level ticket wouldn't create the same level of circus.

In a few months I might well be making a similar thread myself, so Ill also appreciate those tips.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:25 PM) Thibs has always been a guy who will play you if you earn it in practice and tell him you can play(ie. not injured) Normally, I'd question this and say that it would make more sense to ease him back in, but I'm not going to question Thibs at all right now.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:22 PM) Totally... Danks it up. If it where me - the rotation would look like this: 1.) Danks 2.) Floyd 3.) Sale 4.) Humber 5.) Peavy Maybe switching Sale and Humber. Will be interesting to see In thinking long term, it'd be really nice to put Floyd somewhere in-between the last 3, because Danks and Floyd are the 2 guys you expect can take the innings, while the other 3 you don't know. If Sale has a 4.1 inning outing, you don't want to have Humber and Peavy going the next 2 days right now. -
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:19 PM) Ron Paul has plenty of terrible ideas but he's never struck me as a complete and utter moron. No one's really forcing him to defend those terrible ideas (or statements, or newsletters, etc.) right now, because no one believes he has a shot at anything, and they're correct. You put him in a place where he is a legitimate threat to become President of the United States and actually have the power to do things like destroy the Federal Reserve, and suddenly he's going to have to defend each and every one of those ideas. If that happens, I might as well start my own anti-Paul SuperPAC, because battering him would be so easy it wouldn't take that much effort and I could forever establish myself as a multi-million-dollar political operative.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:07 PM) There's been some navel-gazing lately that Paul is setting up himself up for the Romney VP spot. He's attacked all of Romney's opponents in the debates but never really Romney himself. Could you seriously imagine the grilling Ron Paul would get in the general? It'd make the Sarah Palin CBS interview debacle look tame.
-
QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:05 PM) If he looks great in practice then how much longer can you wait to find out if he is 100%? You can't know it unless he plays. One answer to this problem might be to give him 5-10 minutes in a game just to get the feel for it, but for whatever reason, that isn't Thibs's style.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:13 PM) Baseball America @BaseballAmerica Bad news for the Nationals and Sammy Solis. Looks like he's headed towards Tommy John surgery. Ok, i'll admit it, I wondered for a moment when the Nats had signed Sammy Sosa.

Netflix will lose "Starz" tomorrow.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 09:18 AM) No, those movies don't make money, they just win Oscars. I believe a "Best picture" win is typically worth something on the order of tens to hundreds of millions of dollars in receipts for movies that get them.

QUOTE (CrimsonWeltall @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 11:52 PM) New movie idea: beautiful actress/handsome actor is given significant makeup job to make them look ugly/plain. They play a mentally-handicapped Jew escaping the Holocaust. 3 Oscars minimum QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:12 AM) Watch the episode of "American Dad" titled "Tearjerker." It should air again tonight at 12:30 on Adult Swim. I'm trying to figure out whether the original post was referencing that or not...

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 12:27 AM) Last time I checked, an injured ankle shouldn't hinder your ability to see the plate and draw walks, and as far as baseball SKILLS go, that's what Mitchell was known for. Definitely too early to write him off, but certainly hopes are dwindling. Based off the MLB.com list, I'm intrigued with Snodgress. Not just that...he went a full year without having a chance to see live pitching. The ankle may not hurt your ability to see the ball, but losing that year...that really hurts.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 09:02 AM) Teddy Greenstein @TeddyGreenstein Deng's wrist is fine and D-Rose's back is so good, he says he didn't even get treatment in Orlando. #Bulls Which is why Thibs had them both on the bench in the AS game. Thought they were too healthy.

Don't care a lick about racing but do enjoy burning jet fuel. Decent view at about the 6:30 mark. -
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 07:15 PM) Thursday the 15th at about 11. So I can register any time prior to tipoff. Great. Just making sure there wasn't some crazy "Preregistration period".
