QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 07:27 PM) Soooo 2K5 and Balta fight in every thread on this site. We can now officially add "my Facebook profile" to that list of places I don't resist replying to nonsense about petroleum markets

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 07:11 PM) But there is gonna be a referrendum in November... sigh. Which probably means it'll be overturned... which probably means it'll get sued, and go down just like Prop 8 and end up being legal anyway... huge waste of everyone's time Under the prop 8 standard, assuming the Supremes agree with the Appeals, all that will matter is if you start having gay marriage first. If there is an immediate block, then the Prop 8 ruling wont' apply.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 04:10 PM) Scott Merkin @scottmerkin Don't completely rule out Nestor Molina for a bullpen job, although he really would have to be dominant over next month I hate the world.

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 06:13 PM) 28 starts at an average of 6 IP would be a very solid year IMO For who, Sale? I could be happy with that for Sale. For Humber or Peavy that would be sad. Not because they have development to do, but because they're already so far along that they need to be pushed towards 200.

#35. And it ain't close.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) f*** that, terrible luck for the Pirates. They have a chance (although slight) to actually compete this year, but they need a healthy Burnett to do so. You can break my orbital bone for the salary that Burnett steals. This could be incredibly great for the pirates if that deal is insured. They could get Burnett's contract paid for by insurance and by the Yankees.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 05:14 PM) Noah being healthy is obviously better than him not being healthy. But he's still Joakim Noah. He's a valuable player with limitations. Against Miami, they're going to have to score the ball. Rose and a healthy Noah is not enough. Two of Deng, Hamilton and *gulp* Boozer are going to have to step up consistently if they're going to have any chance against Miami's defense. Boozer was also banged up like crazy in that series. But that's to be expected, honestly.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) Right, and it should collapse during the good times...only it doesn't. Actually, it did from 1997-2000.
-
QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) Saw Rose play good defense on Parker (actually, Parker was double teamed and trapped in a corner), which resulted in a turnover. This is not quite the road test that it should be without Ginobli. It's still a b2b after a tough game yesterday and working in a new player at SG. This looked rough, still probably will be.

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 09:35 PM) I almost had a heart attack, looks like DRose will be alright. Ross collides knees with Parker, limps off, timeout taken, misses no time, first possession, immediately takes Parker to the hole and scores.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 28, 2012 -> 01:44 PM) Jon Morosi @jonmorosi source: #MLB and union still discussing extra wild card for this year, March 1 is not a hard deadline for decision. Source says decision is expected in the "next few days" on whether fifth playoff team will be added for '12. Supposedly no deal yet but the 2 sides are now very close to agreeing to a 10 team playoff format for 2012.

Not going to bother dredging up the original post in the Republican thread. South Carolina has moved farther down completing an investigation into the supposed "Several hundred dead people" voting in the South Carolina Primary. They didn't analyze every name, but did over 30% at this point, and it's uncertain if they'll do more for funding issues. Zero evidence of systematic voter fraud. 95% of the cases are easily explained. About 10 actual possible issues with "insufficient information" to determine, but no obvious claims of fraud on those 10.

Bump. Wikileaks/Anonymous hacked emails from intelligence company "Stratfor" suggest that up to a dozen Pakistani/ISI officers probably knew Bin Laden's location.

QUOTE (G&T @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 06:12 PM) And I could have gone all winter without a real snow fall, but here we are. And yes, I am comparing a tornado to 6 inches of snow. One confirmed touchdown with 4 houses destroyed, 2 people trapped in nearby county.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 08:33 AM) CME Group now saying publically, MF Global is in violation of the CFTC and CME rules pertaining to seperation of customer and proprietary funds. This was not an accounting mistake - the money was mixed. People will be going to jail. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 1, 2011 -> 08:36 AM) Yes, there is a big problem here. And it has to be at the executive level. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 07:53 AM) http://www.bloomberg.com/video/79368356/ Great insight on the MF case. It is pretty certain that massive fraud and securities violations happened. The most amazing part is that Man used the old Refco unit to commit the fraud. They have been apart of some crazy stuff over the years. Remember they were the ones involved in the Hillary cattle trading, along with their own blow up in the Ruble and subsequent shell game of hide the losses until they got busted for securities fraud and sold to MF. One thing I would bet on is that Corzine is going to jail. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 08:01 AM) I'll believe it if I see it, but if you're right, that would mean at least 1 former Goldman exec is finally there. Nothing personal against the selected posts, just the first few that I saw on the appropriate page insisting that criminal prosecutions would happen and then me expressing skepticism. So yeah.

Could really go for getting through February without a tornado warning. Alas.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 05:32 PM) It wasn't the innings he threw in college, it was his motion with the high elbow and quick external rotation that made people worry about him. He's similar to Strasburg in that way but he has a lower arm slot so the wear and tear will be interesting. I said "Despite" him throwing 150 innings 2 years in a row...the "Throwing 150 innings" would still give people some confidence that he could stay healthy.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 03:46 PM) Nah, making the rise from obscurity to the top is like nothing in sports. Well, the best example we've got in MLB would be the 2008 Rays, right? And the 2nd best might be the bankrupt to AL champ Rangers. -

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 04:07 PM) It's nice but for an organization so in need, boom-or-bust has dire consequences. You need this guy to be good. How else do you think you'll find the kind of legit top prospect studs that people want when the team's first draft pick shows up in the sandwich round? -
Fangraphs article on him posted in PHT linked here for posterity.

Sigh. I'd like to note that an admin has wandered into this thread. That is all.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 02:44 PM) Nice. These type of things happened repeatedly under the previous leader, and usually they'd only last until they seemed to think it was useful to start making aggressive noises again. Who knows though...this coming only months after the death of the previous leader might mean that the change in government could be pushing the regime to a more stable path.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 29, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) Ew. I wouldn't have been so upset about their extinction. That may still be plausible, there may not be enough genetic diversity left to keep the species going if the bottleneck was too tight.
