  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 09:02 PM) You still see something in him that should make us optimistic? He's getting destroyed out there. You're agreeing with Greg and Victory.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) Holy cow does Stewart suck. Maybe this is good, as it will ensure he's not just handed a spot for next year. Everytime you rip him it builds my confidence in him.
  3. Really...those are the guys we should keep. The quickest way to rebuild is to get something out of them. The money is spent either way.
  4. QUOTE (VictoryMC98 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:32 PM) Hawk just stated we have a chance at 2nd place.. as if that means something. Who cares!!! Ozzie needs the extra $10k, he's made that clear.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 08:08 PM) Not unless Toronto is getting a new stadium and fan base. They did pack that place non stop pre strike
  6. Zoinks
  7. Well, there's that Hosmer guy.
  8. Balta1701 replied to Kyyle23's topic in SLaM
He must have kept his shirt on too long.
  9. And if the Tigers could finish it off in 4, Verlander gets the extra rest. And games 3-4 are likely to be home games right, so Verlander gets to work twice in the opponent's house.
  10. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 02:30 PM) It's never easy to judge a draft after a few months, but I can't remember knowing less about a class at this point. If you were to knock out the first round in any of the last few years, would it wind up similar? We knew a lot about say...Sale and Beckham...but it took a while before the names "Daniel Hudson" and "Brent Morel" filtered through, for me at least.
  11. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 03:49 PM) Wish there was a Chicago cover like that.
  12. Adam Dunn and Alex Rios need to be back playing everyday. (Wait, that actually happened? F***.)
  13. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 03:30 PM) No that Prince is #2 guy behind Pujols and not AR in FA market. Did I disagree with that statement? No. Out of the FA market, there's a good chance Fielder would put up the most WAR over his next contract. I just think he's also going to be paid way more than he generates in terms of production.
  14. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 05:10 PM) This is why what Beane did with those teams was impressive, even if the rest of baseball caught up in time. The jerk answer is "Have a ton of really good pitching and needles".
  15. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 04:31 PM) Gannondorf I thought his name only had 1 n.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 01:41 PM) There are plenty of guys who are in the HOF without the gawdy stats, but because of their contributions in other ways. A guy like Ozzie Smith comes to mind right away. He's there because of defense.
  17. Cashman puts Montero ahead of Smoak? The Mariners didn't.
  18. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) Duh he is 27 to compare PF vs AR is a joke, PF is going into his prime . Last 3 years of AR next contract come talk to me when he is a liability and dead money like Rios. Granted a team will way overpay for AR because the 3rd base FA market is so weak. IMO, some team is going to way overpay for Prince as well.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) It would be more interesting to see what percentage "commonplace" actually is. These terms gets thrown around with such abandon, it makes it seem like we are talking about a lot more than there are in reality. You said yourself though a few posts ago that a 1 in 1000 or 1 in 10000 chance would qualify as "reasonable doubt" in a lot of cases. Right now there have been ~1200 prisoners executed by various governments in this country since the Court reinstated the Death Penalty, and there are 138 names on the innocence project's list of people who were convicted, placed on Death Row, and then acquitted or proven innocent prior to being killed.
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 12:54 PM) I would imagine that a 4-point jump in average is really, really difficult at this point in the season, especially when it's already that high. Probably near impossible. A 3/4 day jumps him to .329.
  21. Presumably there's quite a bit of state-by-state variation being covered up there as well. Tennessee for example, no income tax at all, heavy sales taxes, would slant the taxes collected to the lower income by a fair amount.
  22. QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 12:37 PM) So because it's happened before in Illinois it's now "commonplace" in Georgia? I mean I get what you're saying. This stuff happens. But you have to take this on a case by case basis. In this case there was no evidence of any coercion, just some trumped up affidavits alleging it. There wasn't even a hint of truth to those accusations, let alone proof. If those same people make trumped up allegations in affidavit form alleging coercion, why should I believe that their original testimony isn't trumped up as well?
  23. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 12:30 PM) Not to mention Hamels is about to get PAID after next season. If they let Oswalt walk, then they can probably do it, Mark would earn less than Oswalt's $14 million anyway. They do need to figure out what to do with Rollins this offseason. The big one they clear is Ibanez's salary, but Cliff Lee's deal balloons by $10 million next year
  24. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 12:05 PM) I will take Prince as a hitter way younger over AR and his 2 DL stints a year anyday. For what, 2x the money per year and 4x the number of years?
  25. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 23, 2011 -> 12:16 PM) Agreed...I could see him being a perfect fit as a 4th or 5th starter for the Phillies. I find that really hard to see...unless they let Oswalt walk without picking up his option.
