  1. Taibbi with a catholic church scandal rant.
  2. Konerko continues to look like he's swinging a torrid bat. Ramirez looks just flat out terrible. Again. Rios is up, Beckham's timing is a bit off today. Floyd has had his defense on the IF let him down in a couple innings.
  3. Man, Konerko is getting some really good looking swings on the ball.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) The contact came before that with the body. If Prince didn't get him with the body, Williams did.
  5. QUOTE (Ranger @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 04:03 PM) If Ozzie does, in fact, decide to bat Kotsay third to start the season (which I kind of doubt), it isn't going to last very long and I don't think it's going to cost them anything. You're acting as if Ozzie is going to put him there, he's going to fail miserabely, but Ozzie is going to keep him there for the entire season anyway. That, I can guarantee you, is NOT going to happen. What I don't have a problem with is if the manager decides to take advantage of the guy that's hot and see if that carries over into the season, if for just a bit. And if it doesn't work, he'll abandon it quickly. Look, I don't think Kotsay will hit like this in the regular season, but there is also no guarantee that he is NOT going to start off hot. The baseball season is a LONG one, and teams try out a lot of things over the course of a year. I will be shocked, absolutely shocked, if Mark Kotsay costs the Sox the division because he was batting third. That's all. But, let me reiterate once again, that I don't think he's going to hit there in the first place. Ranger, I'm just going to add...I really hope you're right.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 03:54 PM) The government guarantee is irrelevant for accounting purposes. Not if the government pays out money to reimburse when a loan does go bad.
  7. Whoever winds up winning...this has been a stellar game so far.
  8. The Google exists for a reason. "Lifesizedcustomcutouts.com."
  9. That's simply not how it's been presented to me. The way it's been sold is that yes, the government is selling loans at below rates, but the loans still wind up profitable to the banks because the government guarantees the loans as well.
  10. QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) Seriously? ANY season of 24 described as "incredible"? Yeah, I'd use that word on Season 2 and I still will.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) And my point is that the government is doing the exact same thing with the health and student loan programs and they are allowed to call it "savings". You've been repeating this over and over and I can't find a single non-far right analyst who agrees with you that the government is doing something other than ending a large subsidy to the banks.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:34 PM) Jason Heyward is out with shin splints. Very painful. He does kind of look like baseball Greg Oden. Hope he heals quick. He's an unbelievable talent. That sucks. The braves really, really need his bat if they want to compete in that division.
  13. That's an email that went out this morning to the RNC's donors. The RNC is raising money for Sean Hannity. That is all.
  14. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:24 PM) Beckham, Rios, Good to see both of those names in the lineup.
  15. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:35 AM) At least there's always next year for Kentucky... oh wait, all of their main contributors will be in the NBA. Guess they'll be relying on freshman talent again. Don't worry, I'm sure there's still money leftover to pay next year's recruiting class.
  16. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:06 PM) .278/.327/.390/.717 is bad, especially for a first baseman. His wOBA was only 0.008 points higher than Omar Vizquel's. He did put up at .789 OPS or so with the Sox and a 101 OPS+, so he wasn't "Bad" with us, he was at least average.
  17. QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 10:03 AM) Never could find the writing and direction to follow up to what they produced in Season 1, although I think season 6 was the killer, that was just terrible. Disagree. Season 2 was absolutely incredible, probably my favorite single season of any dramatic TV show not named Star Trek. Seasons 3-4 were damn fine as well.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 01:05 PM) It's only bad when Obama does it. There's been a lot of complaining from the right already even though they had no problem with the last President doing the same thing. Both Bush and Clinton appointed around 270 people via recess appointment in 8 years. That's 15 for Obama in 1.2 years. He's way behind the pace. Frankly...he needs to do more, especially in the Treasury Department.
  19. Omar Vizquel will start at DH at least 10 times.
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 07:49 PM) Peavy was happy with the outing he liked his breaking ball, he said his problem was location. But you are correct, it means nothing if he gets tagged and nothing if he throws a no hitter at this point. Just be ready when it counts. I think the rule usually is you give them a full outing of pitches 2 starts before the season starts, then you back off in your last start.

    The Money Thread

It's worth noting also that gold is being driven up in no small part by some political types who have been encouraging purchasing it as insurance against, um, the upcoming Obamageddon, or whatever you want to call it. Politics aside, if you're getting people to purchase something based on politics, then if the political winds shift, it will affect the price.
  22. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 27, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) I think the fact that he threw 112 pitches is the most alarming thing, not the fact he got hit around. That was 100% deliberate. Probably 110 were fastballs again.
