White sox may be reconsidering their stance of being non sellers
NCsoxfan replied to Whisox05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 05:47 PM) The Red Sox would be insane to offer that package. The Dodgers might, with Kershaw out indefinitely...and the Rangers can afford to wait on Darvish. Probably but isn't that the kind of deal you need to trade Sale? If you don't get that kind of immediate reaction you probably didn't get enough -

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 05:06 PM) According to Batman, yes - Batman... The offer for Sale was from Boston for Moncada, Benintendi, Kopech, and Basabe. That's not enough for Sale - caped crusader. It's not enough, but that's not an awful offer. You add Betts or JBJ and I'd probably take it. -

Way we could blow it is the same way we blew it (arguably) with Peavy. We tried to get cute and "rebuild on the fly" and traded for Avi in the 3-way instead of getting legit prospects. -

Given how aggressive Dombrowski is, I wouldn't be shocked if he said: -Pick 1 of (JBJ, Betts, Moncada) -Any three other prospects you want -

Another source says the #WhiteSox were offered a "king's ransom" for Sale in the last 48 hours and responded with a flat "no." -

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 21, 2016 -> 01:24 PM) The #Whitesox expected to keep rotation intact, but everyone else, except SS Tim Anderson, are in play at trade deadline https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/756173009606545409 I dont understand this. Don't want to trade any rotation pieces but can gut the rest of the team and have no offense or bullpen but least the Sox have starting pitching. Really hoping the sox arent that stupid. Cant imagine getting elite talent for the rest of the team. I don't think theres' a situation where the team would EVER come out and say that Sale/Q are open to being traded. Even if they traded them, it would probably be from the above posture. -

You don't trade Sale/Q for players that need to meet their full potential just to make the trade even. Need to tie in base case, and win significantly if they all play to their potential. -
QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 20, 2016 -> 10:06 PM) Q needs to bring back Moncada or f*** them IMO. Benintendi AND one of Moncada/Betts/Bradley Jr

Forgot it was a day game today & just saw the outcome. At least it saved me some frustration.

I'm worried we're going to run off 5 wins in a row and have Hahn and KW rethink the need to sell!

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:46 AM) A Gold Glove caliber right fielder on pace for 5+ fWAR this year with 5 years of team control left on a severely below market deal for a guy playing at basically replacement level who is a prima donna with just 2 years left of team control? I usually back Hahn but if he made that he would and should be fired on the spot. I deserve to be banned for a week for this suggestion, but I truly didn't realize Puig has been this awful!
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 19, 2016 -> 09:36 AM) Are you serious? Eaton is better than Puig..... Good point, didn't realize he has been so awful
-
Reports out there that the Dodgers are open to trading Puig for another corner OF. Eaton for Puig straight up? Or am I dreaming?
-
The silver lining in all of this is that we're not going to be fooled into thinking this ball club is a contender & other "1 piece away". Would be a travesty to trade good young prospects on this mediocre team.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Jul 18, 2016 -> 01:40 PM) Is anybody really that surprised? After that free-fall in June it was pretty clear we have some fundamental, critical problems with this team and after a sleight rebound--just when you think maybe they'll really, really turn it around--they reverted to form. Losing form. It's a 100% lose/lose situation because while I'm 100% behind the whole BIAU (blow it all up) idea, with current management I don't trust them and they'd probably just end up selling off the few good players we have for a crappy return. I see no end in sight as long as JR continues to own the team and continues to employ KW. Hahn I don't know enough about or if he even has any autonomy. The fish rots from the head down, as the saying goes, so as tempting as it is to do a BIAU, I would almost hold off on that until we have management in place who has demonstrated some competence. I feel bad for Sales though. How much it must suck to be such an elite player yet stuck on a go-nowhere team. Typically I'd agree, but when the guys you're trading net you other teams' very top prospects I think it becomes a little easier. It's the difference between drafting in the Top 3 in the NBA draft, and 25-30. Yeah you might pick wrong between Brandon Ingram and Ben Simmons, but you're already picking between the top top guys. Same goes here if you do sell Q/Sale.

If we keep playing the way we're playing, anyone who thinks this team is going to catch Cleveland is crazy.

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 11:04 PM) Fulmer is a maybe starter who has an absolute ceiling of a #1 starter and a floor of a middle reliever. Lucroy is an all-star catcher who likely has 5-6 good years left in him. Your analogy doesn't add up. That's false equivalence. He's under contract for this year & next (age 30-31). Obviously you have to factor in costs, not to mention whether there's a decline in productivity (very normal after that age). So the way you frame the comparison IMO is misleading. Analogy is absolutely true. Trading many years of upside to get a little tiny bit better today with a guy who has peaked career wise. Do these trades enough times and you continue to be mediocre or below mediocre for a long long time.

7/16/16 Sox @ Angels Shields vs Shoemaker
NCsoxfan replied to Condor13's topic in 2016 Season in Review
Cold spells are brutal for this team -
QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 16, 2016 -> 06:39 PM) Would those odds not improve tremendously with the addition of Lucroy? I don't think so. We're pretty entrenched in the +- 2 games over .500 type of team. There's a huge gap between our statistics versus the teams that are solidly in the playoffs. We have got to stop trading 80 cents today that will likely be 120 cents but could be 150 cents for 100 cents.

I am surprised how high opponents batting average is (.261) ranking 17th
-
I'll probably get ripped for quoting such basic stats, but just looking at high level team batting & pitching statistics, it's amazing how mediocre the team is. Batting stats pretty much rank between 18-21 across most categories. Even pitching which I assumed to be top 10 is more in the 10-15ish range. Compared to last year looks like the offense is about 5 spots better, but not materially better. So overall still mediocre but definitely a better mediocre team.
-
Still depressing even in spite of Rodon/Anderson on ML team
-
How expected was this? Any color on how these prospected were viewed?
-
in fairness to the Beckham comparison, I think Anderson has a much quicker swing, livelier bat, etc than Gordon did.
