  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 10:15 AM) Pretty nice list. Good call on McCann. I think he may be quietly building a Hall of Fame career, and nobody knows it yet. I dunno, I feel like most people do know McCann and how good he is. I would put Josh Johnson at #1, but a lot of that is due to me giving a friend of mine advice years ago to stock up on his cards/signatures on eBay.
  2. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 12:16 AM) Well, I thought of someone I knew who was named Brent, and Brent Abernathy came to mind. Then I looked up what teams he played on, then I searched those teams in Baseball-almanac.com, and looked at the rosters. Sure, it took 5 minutes of looking up, but it was an interesting question. Then I wanted to see how many degrees of Brent I could go to. Brent Butler ended my streak at 3. That's the best thing about Soxtalk. When you don't feel like doing the legwork, somebody else usually will. I never realized there were so many Brent's out there. I've never met or even known anyone with an acquaintance named Brent.
  3. QUOTE (SoxFanForever @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 12:14 AM) Pretty sure the second one was a Jason Bateman reference from Dodgeball. Ah, I knew that seemed familiar. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 01:06 AM) I assumed it was a reference to the twin suns of Tatooine, as originally seen in Ep IV That makes sense. I thought they were just throwing out Star Wars simply because it's happening in space.
  4. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 12:03 AM) 2003 Royals. Brent Abernathy and Brent Mayne. BOOM. Damn, nice. Did you just know that off of the top of your head, or did you somehow look that up?
  5. Will this be the first time two people named Brent will be on the same team?
  6. How is this Star Wars-esque? QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) F'in A Cotton. F'in A. What?
  7. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 01:09 PM) A Somali radio news broadcaster with the backdrop of some of those pirate incidents. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 05:17 PM) The one I watched was a comedy about a british pirate radio station in the mid 60's. I was completely f***ing around. I know what the movie is about and just made the other description up.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 01:01 PM) It keeps showing up on my Netflix recommended list. What is it about? A Somali radio news broadcaster with the backdrop of some of those pirate incidents.
  9. I don't know why, but I keep thinking that Morel is a lefty.
  10. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 08:28 AM) You would have to be thrilled with those numbers. I find them very optimistic. This.
  11. I've had a feeling for a while that he would be ready for opening day (perhaps very early in the season). I feel like the organization has been hinting at it through Cooper and the fact that they haven't gone after another 5th starter like Freddy or someone similar.
  12. NO THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK NO MATTER WHAT BECAUSE OF CATWOMAN! QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 05:03 PM) He certainly showed he was capable of it with his role in Bronson. Did you like Bronson? I wasn't a big fan, but it was ok. EDIT: Stupid android.
  13. Should we spread a petition around the site and make this official?
  14. I move for a rule change on this site. I believe the nickname TCQ should be banned entirely.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) Sweet. If the s*** finally hits the fan with all of Lance's steroid use, I'd be the happiest person this side of Boers & Bernstein. I beg to differ. I would be.
  16. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 10:36 AM) That is understandable. It's difficult to live life looking so ridiculously handsome. I hear that!
  17. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) I thoroughly disliked Lars and the Real Girl. I know this has been beaten into the ground, but I thoroughly dislike your face.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 09:12 AM) Link to a solid piece The numbers given here are generally consistent with estimates published in peer-reviewed literature as well. Very interesting article. And it says that the birds in Arkansas most likely died because they ran into something, but I wonder what that could be. Perhaps it's like the movie Signs when they show a bird on the news fly into an invisible UFO?!
  19. QUOTE (The Bones @ Jan 19, 2011 -> 12:38 AM) Blue Valentine is now my favorite film from 2010. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams are incredible. I think it's a movie that you'll either love or hate, because it's pretty intense. Consider yourself warned. On a lighter note, Easy A was surprisingly funny. I think I'm developing a man-crush on Ryan Gosling. I've liked every movie I've seen him in. And yes, Easy A wasn't bad.
  20. QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 18, 2011 -> 01:18 PM) You write that a lot. I'm not sure what we are supposed to do with that info. Ignore it? Not be a jerk about it? I dunno, I'm just stating my stance on current music. EDIT: Just looked, and I have one other post mentioning that topic. Not sure what you're getting at.
  21. Yikes, talking about contracts in the $300 million range. I wonder how long it will be before someone signs a billion dollar contract.
  22. I don't think I know a single song from any of those CD's.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jan 16, 2011 -> 03:37 AM) I thought it was pretty awesome. Obviously not going to be as "smart" as Daily Show and Colbert Report, but I really enjoyed it. Only thing I found not funny was the retired NFL stars escaping. That was a little overdone, but the NBA rule changes, Shaq having heart attack, Meth olympics, Pujols keys to city, and everything else was really funny in my opinion. Maybe I'm the only one, but I've been a huge fan of The Onion and their website for years now. Their most recent "strong side/weak side" on Cam Newton was amazing. http://www.onionsportsnetwork.com/articles/cam-newton,18754/ Haha, you're definitely not.
  24. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Why didn't he show up in 2009? I didn't say every contract year. That's why he had to make up for it with last year.
  25. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jan 15, 2011 -> 03:35 AM) Or he'll literally have a White Sox number when we inevitably trade for him. Nicely done
