  1. I like all of these moves. It's obvious to bring Thornton back and makes a lot of sense to retain Castro. Very glad to see Torres leave, as he's a talentless hack with no marbles.
  2. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 10:27 AM) No it isn't. Well, I don't think so. The future looks bleaker (is that a word?) for our crosstown rivals on the north side. Sure, things aren't perfect, and we have a lot of holes and work to do in the off season. But I wouldn't say things are BLEAK. We won 88 games last year with out our ace and without a DH. There's a good chance that things could fall into place next year, and we could have something special again. I mean, who predicted what happened in 2005 before it happened? That's like saying a 99-year-old man with pancreatic cancer has a bleaker future than you. Not saying much.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) In the history of the postseason, there have been 8 "10+ strikeout, 0 walk" games. Cliff Lee has 4. Wow, cool stat.
  4. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) My signature with Sandra Bullock and an owl? No great significance, I just thought that it was a funny comparison. Ah the avatar... It's the ORLY owl as The Crow. Ah, thought it was something with the name O'Reilly. Couldn't really tell with the size of the picture.
  5. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 03:33 PM) I love Boardwalk Empire, but many of the plot lines are going to take a few episodes, if not seasons, to play out. Exactly what I was saying.
  6. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) I think some of the ones showing up in the list should be classified more as a thriller than horror. The problem with horror movies is that there aren't a whole lot of really good ones IMHO. So many of them are old and cheesy or just the typical kill a bunch of sex-crazed teenagers gore-fest. Some of them I think people remember seeing them as kids and being scared but if they watched them now they'd wonder what they were so afraid of. Then there are the horror-comedies like Army of Darkness or Shaun of the Dead. My #1 would definitely still get in my head if I saw it for the first time today. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 02:24 PM) There are some solid films in this list. You all have good taste. What's your avatar supposed to be?
  7. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 26, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) I lasted two episodes of "Boardwalk Empire". Everything was telling me I should love that show, but I wound up just being shocked that each episode wasn't over yet. I found it sooooooo boring. When it comes to movies based on organized crime, there are usually two ways to go. One way is to slowly build up with character development and the other is to just have a lot of people get killed. Boardwalk Empire seems to be going with the former, which can definitely seem more boring to a lot of people. It's a major reason why some people don't like (or haven't even seen) any of the Godfather movies.
  8. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) Ha, that's not what my mom said Wait, what?

QUOTE (Felix @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 08:17 PM) Just tried watching Boondock Saints II. Turned it off after 22:30. I tend to enjoy brainless action movies, but this was beyond awful. Easily one of the worst movies I've ever tried to watch. I don't want to see it at all. Saw Hereafter last night, though. It was pretty good. I can't say it was great, but maybe I just expect too much from Eastwood anymore. For a two-hour movie, it really flew by.
  10. How many clubs did it take to bring that sea lion down?
  11. QUOTE (daa84 @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) very bizarre episode of boardwalk empire last night ....anyone want to explain to me what the prohibition agent was doing beating the s*** out of himself with a belt to margarets picture?? some sort of psychosexual david carradine s*** or something???? the jimmy - al dynamic is awesome....the actors that play those 2 guys and the guy who plays said prohibition agent are phenomenal I believe he's very religious, and he's apparently having feelings for Mrs. Schroeder (remember his superior asking "What is this obsession with the Schroeder thing?"). He was punishing himself for having such feelings. I remember him even quoting the Bible after interrogating that guy in the dentist's office. Couldn't agree more with the Jimmy/Al dynamic. I'm especially liking the Capone character. I don't remember the actor who plays Jimmy from anything, but the guy who plays Capone (Stephen Graham) is from quite a few movies, although in relatively small parts. The biggest part I can recall him in is Snatch as Tommy. When the show first started, I had no idea Capone would be such a major character and I'm very glad he is. The agent (Michael Shannon) has been around for years and was even nominated for an Oscar recently.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 06:50 PM) The balls from high school to college have definitely had more subdued seams, and I agree from handling balls I've acquired from pro games that those balls have practically no seams. I hate those things. I'm a sinkerballer and the ball moves less when the seams stick out less. That caused me to stop reading for a second to let out a nice, loud "HA!"
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride56 @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) That is awesome!!! Thanks, most things I do are.
  14. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 04:00 PM) I thought San Francisco typically had warmer Falls. EDIT: Yes. The average high temperature is warmer in October than in June or July. via Quiet, you!
  15. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 04:59 PM) Indeed there were dragons. Both land and sea variety. Here's the land variety from North Seymour in the central islands. Follow-up question: Do they indeed breathe fire?
  16. Very much so.
  17. I watched it with people, but I didn't talk. I sat in the same spot for every playoff game, sitting in the same position. Whenever anyone asked what I would do if they win, I wouldn't even respond to their question.
  18. The more I look at this list, the more I realize that I'm really just not a fan of the horror genre. The only ones I really like would be better classified as psychological thrillers.
  19. Just f***ed that one up, Balta.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 12:19 PM) Because baseball just isn't fun if it's not played in November. The serious answer continues to be the TV schedule. Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, Sunday, (Monday), (Wednesday), (Thursday). You're guaranteed weekend evening games and you avoid Friday night. Why would you want to avoid Friday night? I could be wrong, but I would think that games on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights would be the best rated.
  21. I have no evidence to support this, but I seriously doubt it would cause a problem. I'm also pretty sure you can get the shot administered to any number of other locations.
  22. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) I can agree with this, after the 4th movie they took things a little too far imo, I don't mind gore but number 5 and 6 were hard to watch. Naturally, I'll have to go see Saw 3D, not really interested but kind of have to watch how the series ends. Speaking of horror films, Rec, Exorcist, Saw, The Shining & Pans Labyrinth are up there for me, in general I prefer the older stuff, the newer movies I find to be completely terrible and the majority just have some blonde slut running around screaming. No offense, but how can you be unaware that this won't be the last one? Didn't they say the last one was the final one? They're just going to pump that garbage out until people stop eating it up. And what is Rec? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) I was into the original until the ending, which was so absurd it blew the whole movie for me. I never had any urge to watch another one after that. SAME HERE!
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) I remember really wanting to finish off the sweep, not because I wanted it sooner, but because the Astros had Clemens, Pettitte, and Oswalt going in the next 3 games, and considering what the Red Sox had done the year before, I was a bit scared. Looking back on it now, I'm not sure the Sox really had anything to worry about, because they likely would have ended it in game 5 anyways because the Sox have historically hit Clemens pretty well (and that year was no different), Clemens was hurt anyways, and the odds of the Sox not winning one of those next 3 was pretty minimal to begin with the way Contreras, Buehrle and whichever of Garland and Garcia would have gone in game 7 (really probably could have gone to either of them). But yeah, I still pop in the World Series DVDs from time to time and just smile. That was a joyride. I still don't believe that was a real injury.
  24. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) Haha the bolded is so true. We realistically had one of the most dominant postseason rules to a championship sports has ever seen, but because of the whole 1917 thing and how close a lot of the games were, it was so incredibly stressful. I don't want to imagine how I would have been had the series been going 6 or 7 games (or 4 or 5 in round 1). As for the "over it" thing, 2005 is no longer a defense for Kenny and Ozzie and their job security. As far as I'm concerned, they should be held to the same standards as anybody else in regards to whether to retaining their employment, and 2005 should not play a factor at all in regards to if they stay around or not. HOWEVER, I'll never be "over" 2005. It was an absolutely incredible ride for me as a fan, and a dream come true to see the Sox win the World Series. As a fan growing up, especially of the White Sox and Blackhawks (always my 2 very favorite teams), all I asked from the mythical sports gods was to see each of them win it all once. I'll always hold my teams to a high standard, but the 2005 White Sox and 2010 Blackhawks will always hold a special place for me because they fufilled my one wish as a sports fan, and that is to know how it feels to see your team be the best. Yeah, that whole first part I couldn't agree with more. Bmags, I had a Spanish class the next day (I usually had two classes on Tuesday/Thursday, but the other was cancelled the week before). All we had for that day was to watch a movie. I missed quite a few days in that class, so I figured I should go. I was never happier to wake up for an 8:00 a.m. class, sitting there not paying attention for a second to that movie with a huge smile on my face. I went to school in Massachusetts, but I had a teacher who was a Sox fan. He grew up in (I believe) North Carolina and grew up watching one of the Sox minor league teams. I had his class on M/W/F, but I sure didn't go to his Friday class because it was my only class of the day. I sent a cigar for him with another friend who had the class with the message "I'm sure you understand why I'm not there."
  25. QUOTE (balfanman @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 12:07 PM) I think that it might get cool in San Francisco too, but it probably won't be near as cold as New York and Philly will be. Haha, for sure. I can just recall seeing fans in San Francisco/Oakland in the middle of the Summer wearing sweatshirts at games on TV.
