Girl gets lip bitten off by dog while playing Nintendogs
Milkman delivers replied to Kyyle23's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 11:37 AM) This is the same guys followup: and to give you a little background, this dog attack was compared to a child fight on a playground and domestic violence. I am arguing with idiots That type of argument makes me want to euthanize a dog just to tell that guy to f*** off. -
Xerox machine is down at work.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) Its all about how much money the Sox are willing to spend on player payroll in 2011. If they are willing to boost it a bit, not even a lot, then I am honestly pretty optimistic about next year. I mean, this team will probably win 87-88 games, after having lost their best SP for most of the year, and having a closer that sucked basically all year - two things that seem unlikely to repeat in 2011. The one obvious hole the team had was the DH debacle, and I highly doubt KW will let that happen again, even if Ozzie begs. And look at those three things for next year. Bobby and his $7M+ likely salary will be gone, with Thornton or Putz to close. Peavy, probably, will be healthy for 2011, and we have up to 7 possible major league starters, which most teams would be jealous of. DH, well, we'll see how that goes, but I predict a near-zero chance we end up with a Kotsay/Jones level disaster again. One other thing - The Twins are having a magical year, playing at an absurd pace for the final 4 months (not 4 weeks - 4 months). The chance of any team repeating that sort of thing year over year is always very low in baseball. So you guys can be sarcastic, but my concern slides on the scale of money available to spend. If payroll has the flexibility to go up a bit, I feel pretty good, pending the offseason moves. If its the same or lower, then it will take some miracle moves from KW to give me the same level of confidence. I don't see any reason to think that that is probable.

QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 11:17 PM) The way we are finishing this season is really getting me excited for next season. The pitching is solid. The hitting is timely. The execution is practically flawless. Bring back Viz. Bring back Manny. Bring back Paulie. Lets add a healthy Jake. A healthy Gordon. And a rejuvanated Oz to lead the bunch. When's spring training start? I can't wait to see our run to the 2011 World Series. I haven't even read the other responses in this thread yet, but I'll just get this out of the way right now. This is typical of the Sox. We're competitive until the last month and a half, we choke, and then we finish out the season strong when we're already out of contention.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!!

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:49 AM) Nice to get a win. The great thing about baseball is every game is a new one and there is always next year. What does that even mean? That's true about every sport. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 07:29 AM) I can only watch these Red Sox games because of my college sitiuation. Frankly, i'm not overly enthusiastic about watching meanigless wins ruin our draft position while giving Ozzie something to harp about going into his (god willing) lame-duck year. Where are you going to school? -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 05:38 AM) Lone Star cancelled, which is really sad because was my favorite new show of the season. Wow, didn't that show just start? I don't understand how you make a decision that quickly. It's not like I was going to watch it, but man, why do people even sell their shows to Fox?

Girl gets lip bitten off by dog while playing Nintendogs

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 09:47 AM) http://www.hotbloodedgaming.com/2010/09/28...ing-nintendogs/ Someone i know posted this on facebook, and now there is a conversation in which a guy said Now, I dont agree with this at all. I think it was absolutely the right thing to do to euthanize this dog, you cant hope to train a dog not to do something like this. With children around the house, this could happen again and then you would wonder why he wasnt euthanized the first time. thoughts? The very first thing I thought when I finished the article was that I was glad/surprised that the family acted so quickly to euthanize the dog. It was definitely the right thing to do, and being so prompt about it really showed that they cared. I love my family's dog. He's been with the family for 10 years. If he did something like this, he would be lucky if I didn't take him into the backyard and shoot him myself. -
QUOTE (Fotop @ Sep 29, 2010 -> 05:25 AM) Can people who moved to Asia comment? I know f all about Europe, so I'll refrain from commenting on that specifically, but I can say I'd recommend moving abroad for work if the opportunity is worth it. Honestly, it was quite difficult to convince me, especially with a girlfriend back in the states (with whom I am still seeing long-distance) but from a life experience and work experience perspective it's certainly worthwhile. Looking back knowing what I know now, I think the decision would have been much easier. It's not all sunshine and rainbows every day, as you will have your bad days and miss the US, miss your family, and miss your good friends. However, the experiences you'll have will be unique, you'll experience new cultures, and will meet new friends. What you're leaving in the US will basically always be there (except Wrigley, the structural integrity of the place may cause it to turn to dust by the time you return). , you can always go back. Europe to me is a bit easier as well, in a sense that you could get home in case of emergency through an 8-10 hr flight. Asia, not so much. Also this gives you the opportunity to go back to visit on a long weekend rather than having to block out a week plus to take a trip home. I will say that it's been easy for me since there's little to no language barrier here - everyone speaks english. So I can't comment on the effect that may have on you - but if you're living in London, well yeah, same boat. Haha. Ultimately, I'm going to assume you're young since you don't have a wife/kids yet (could be wrong, if so, my apologies). If you don't do something like this now, in all likelihood you won't in the future. So, my advice is to take advantage of it if the opportunity were to arise. Granted, there are plenty of factors that are involved in considering if an opportunity is worth it so I would really analyze the offer in hand before making a decision. Opportunity costs are real and not just made up in economics classes. Haha. But I'm rambling at this point, if you have any specific questions, as silly as they may be (e.g. how the hell am I going to watch the white sox abroad?) feel free to shout. Where exactly do you live now?

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) Apparently, The Social Network is getting all kind of rave reviews like Oscar-winning raves. Looking forward to this one. I'm sure it's good, but it's not something I am raring to see. Definitely something I can wait to see at home.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) The Ladykillers was a remake. Oh yeah, I remember looking that up when I watched the new one on TV a few months ago. Either way, True Grit isn't a movie that really needs to be remade. I doubt the original Ladykillers was nearly as good as True Grit.

Da Bears...I hate people who use that term.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 09:50 AM) Most lists I see have some combination of: Portland, Charlotte, Nashville, Las Vegas, San Antonio/McAllen, Salt Lake City, Albuquerque/Santa Fe, and San Juan PR. New Orleans is still a disaster and a shrunken city, I don't see them being viable. Nashville is Memphis but with money and no Cardinals nearby, so Nashville wins out there. Louisville is very near Cincy. And I hadn't heard OKC before for baseball, that might be interesting. I was only thinking of populous cities not in California or Texas. The point is that there ought to be plenty of options.

Konerko to address free agency before TH game
Milkman delivers replied to fathom's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) If Ozzie returning brings back Konerko, I'm okay with that. I'd like to see a two or three year deal for him, but if Ozzie isn't extended I wonder of Konerko would opt for just a one year contract. Konerko isn't good enough to decide who manages him. I'm not saying that that is the case, just theoretically. -
Ozzie and the staff will be back for 2011
Milkman delivers replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
There's a lot of offseason to get through, so I'll reserve my final decision until much later, but I'm seriously considering not attending or watching any games next season. -
Gordo's hand improving, hopes to return
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I don't see any point in returning this season. -
QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 01:38 AM) that's why i said i would rather, rather than it will be likely. would you want garcia or pena as your fifth starter, both guys who has shown poor peripherals this season, and will probably get you an ERA closer to 5.00, or a younger guy in Torres who has better chance to succeed than both of those guys going forward? Torres has been in Triple A for 3 years now, and has performed very well the last 2 seasons, i think it would be fair to at least give him a shot in the big leagues. If you want a guy to put up an ERA closer to 5.00, you might want Garcia or Peña. If you want a guy to put up an ERA over 5.00, you're gonna want Torres.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:03 AM) What city is out there hunting for an MLB Team? I think part of it is that those cities might have a shot at supporting a team, but neither one of them has had the facilities to do so. I'm not sure which cities are looking for teams, but there are some pretty populous areas out there with no teams. Off of the top of my head, there's New Orleans, Charlotte, Portland, Oklahoma City, Memphis, Nashville, Louisville, and Las Vegas.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 09:09 AM) yeah, but I understand what MM is saying. You dont consider a book translation as a remake, True Grit is a remade John Wayne movie. That isnt the Coen Brothers style normally. However, given their body of work I am willing to say that this will be worth it. Yes, that's what I meant. And yes again, I'm sure it will be worth seeing. I just read into it, and they want to do basically the same thing they did with NCFOM (a direct translation from book to screen). The only thing is that, according to Wikipedia, there are not many differences between the novel and the original film. I just don't see the point.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 08:20 AM) New Coen Brothers movie, their first movie with Jeff Bridges since The Big Lebowski They're going to remake a movie? That doesn't seem like them. I wonder why they would remake a classic like True Grit, instead of a movie that had potential it didn't reach.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 12:45 AM) Heavyweights ("Attention campers: lunch has been canceled today due to lack of hustle... deal with it") Tommy Boy Come here you devil log! QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 28, 2010 -> 06:52 AM) The Simpsons episode when he gains weight to become "disabled". "Hey fatty, I got a move for you. A Fridge Too Far!" I wash myself with a rag on a stick. Instead of making sandwiches with bread, use pop tarts. Instead of chewing gum, chew bacon. You can brush your teeth with milkshakes. Hey, did you go to Hollywood Upstairs Medical College, too?

Ozzie and the staff will be back for 2011
Milkman delivers replied to HuskyCaucasian's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 08:48 PM) I'm actually really unmotivated to root for this team next year.It feels like a Lovie Smith lameduck type of deal. I hear that. No accountability at all. Ozzie has done everything in his power to be fired/allowed to talk to other teams, and nothing will change. -
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 27, 2010 -> 04:15 PM) What explanation? Garcia had a stiff back and missed a couple starts. Overall he has done as good as any other and when the rest of the staff was sucking earlier in the season Garcia was the one who saved us. He was the 5th starter and did better then most 5th starters in the league. Remember his last game he went 6 solid innings and gave up one run. He has a winning record. I am not sure who you are trying to compare Freddie Garcia too I'm not comparing him to anybody. I'm saying he ran out of gas, which was to be expected with the lack of work he's had in the last couple of years.
