Hawks national anthem... Disrespectful?
Milkman delivers replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 06:20 PM) I really don't care if it starts an argument, because the other side has no argument. Anybody who thinks cheering something is in an way disrespectful is ridiculous. It's cheering! The ultimate expression of approval at a sporting event is cheering. Yes, everyone is in agreement on that. I don't think a single person in this thread has said otherwise. I'm saying that you're going to make an argument where everyone already agrees by now stating that cheering during the anthem is more respectful than quietly standing with your hat over your heart. That's what I find ridiculous. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 02:45 AM) The guy that wrote this garbage is just a jealous, whiny little Red Wings fan trying to be an attention whore. To his credit, he did get a lot of national attention for this opinion, but it's absolute, complete garbage. Anybody who has actually been to a Blackhawks game knows that the cheering is not at all disrespectful in the slightest. As far as i'm concerned, it's 100 times more respectful than standing there in silence like somebody just died as is the case during the anthem at just about every other event. I cannot believe this has even got as much attention as it has. The entire idea of the cheering is a combination of respect, patriotism, and excitement over the impending start of the game. I don't know what is more American than that. The good news is that politically correct to the extreme weenies like this guy will never get their way here, since the only way to stop this tradition is to not do the anthem. Let's not get ridiculous here. You're only going to start an argument between all of the people in here who already agree that this writer is wrong. -
QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 08:24 PM) Yeah, I noticed yours in the other thread after I had posted. You beat me, straight up! Pay that man his money.

QUOTE (3E8 @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 11:42 PM) So glad to have Breaking Bad back. The scenes tonight around the border of Texas were so creepy yet beautifully shot. And Hollywood has pretty much desensitized me to explosions, but the one at the end was just f***ing cool I know the show gets good ratings, but nowhere near enough people are watching it. Bryan Cranston is such a great actor. He's won the last two Emmy's for best actor, and I can honestly say I've been emotionally invested in rooting for him.

QUOTE (GREEDY @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 09:59 PM) For years on this board and others, I have bashed Dye's defense in RF and I have been met with a fair share of protest. Some more dellusional than others, but for the most part it seemed that more people than not think JD was/is a solid option in RF. And clearly, a strong majority, if not all MLB GMs seem to believe that Jermaine cannot play as an everday outfielder; and JD doesn't want to be paid as a 4th OF or DH, hence the current extra time to spend with the fam. So what rock did all of you crawl under this offseason? And is Hawk or Rongey under there with you? You have it completely backward. I believe the majority of posters knew he wasn't a great outfielder, especially in the last three years.

Congratulations.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Mar 19, 2010 -> 06:24 AM) I was impressed by Justified. I figured it would be good, but it was better than I thought. Both Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins are great. I had read a review that Olyphant's character was a lot like his Seth Bullock from Deadwood, but I think he's better in Justified. I thought his character in Deadwood was too stoic and didn't have enough dialogue. The character of Bullock was far from stoic. He lost his temper repeatedly and beat people within inches of their lives. You could say he was quiet for sure, not stoic.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:32 PM) I didn't like the Incredibles particularly much. I think it was my least favorite out of the bunch, which isn't saying a lot, because it isn't like I hated it or anything. It was just meh for me. I completely agree with that.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 17, 2010 -> 03:04 PM) I really have to go back and watch Monsters Inc. that was easily my favorite Pixar film prior to the release of The Incredibles. Given that the last time I saw it I was about 15 years old I wonder how it would sit with me at age 23, I could see myself enjoying it even more now that I'd be able to spot the nuances of the film and comprehend more of the references. (The Simpsons Effect, if you will) Monsters Inc. is my favorite.

I thought The Incredibles was the least funny, although I haven't seen Up yet.
-
I liked it. I think I should just start watching any FX show, as I've loved all of the ones I've watched.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Bought these today.....cushy on the feet. Are those slippers? I got a new pair of shoes today, although I actually purchased them a few weeks ago. Eastbay had them on back order so it took a while to get here. It's big news for me, as I keep my shoes for a long time. They last forever for me.

I thought the first episode was kind of boring, but I'm sure it'll get much better.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 06:05 PM) Anyone not named Pujols. I'd trade Rafael or Ruben Pujols in a second for him.

I've never really watched Craig Ferguson, but it's weird how people have polar opposite views on him.

I don't know if anyone remembers this skit, but it's hilarious. http://woodenspears.com/saturday-night-liv...y-romano-video/

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) A couple of people told me to watch the movie Bronson. I didn't like it at all. I found it really boring. Wow, my brother had me get that for him on netflix. I watched it before I gave it to him the other day. I didn't even think anyone else had heard of it. And agreed.

QUOTE (Tex @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 01:55 PM) I have never found it disrespectful. Althought, to be truthful, many in the crowd are just maiking noise for niose sake, and not out of any patriotic feeling. The event has become bigger than the anthem. I have a hard time having my classes either recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge, or remaining silent. They also insist on talking instead of remaining silent during the moment of silence. That really annoys me. I don't think there's any way you could prove something like that. It's your opinion. -

I believed it, but that's because I know absolutely nothing about NBA rules. I'm not even sure they have a drug testing program. Also, basketball sucks. -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 02:02 PM) Alright, well it's been an interesting few hours going to the doctors, making calls and such. My brother is one lucky S.O.B. I won't go into detail what happened (PM if you really want to know) but the kid isn't his and his ex gf is a serious b****. That is all. I didn't want to say it before, as I may have been talking about your future sister-in-law, but any time a girl is pregnant and there is any question as to who the father may be...well, she's a whore.

I stand quietly in respect, but it doesn't bother me to hear other people cheering. In fact, I enjoy others cheering. I hate people who talk during it or don't stand up. -

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 11, 2010 -> 04:10 PM) You got that right. I just hope he gets off his ass, gets a job and handles his responsibilities if its true. I'm gonna talk to him when he comes home from school tonight about this. Hopefully the kid isn't his for his sake. I'll keep ya posted what happens later on today. Haha, she sounds like a classy lady.
