  1. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 6, 2008 -> 03:03 AM) I thought your post was OK til that line Milkman. Cmon you can't be a Masset fan. Nowhere in my post did I say Masset was any good. It's just the fact that we traded from what, at the time, was a weakness for a guy we have 10 clones of already.
  2. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:17 PM) I'm not sure if we really need to "rebuild" as much as we need to get rid of some dead wood. We do have some promising young players to build around both in the field and on the mound but I do think that it's time to start getting younger. How many more seasons can Thome and Dye continue to hit like they have, Konerko has seemingly hit the wall and I'm just not sure what you're going to get on a nightly basis from Contreras and Vasquez. We don't need a total rebuild as much as we need a re-shuffling of a few players/positions Yes, we can deal with having a couple bad seasons to replace the old guys. Not a total rebuild from the ground up, but sacrifice a few seasons for the bigger gain.
  3. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:14 PM) Cry me a f***ing river. Sorry, I expect some standards. In no way did I demean you in my posts, but you went right ahead and did it to me.
  4. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:11 PM) Sound logic. I should have expected that. You know, for a moderator, you take an awful lot of pot shots at people. But of course, you get to say that sort of stuff with no consequences.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:08 PM) Possibly Thome, Griffey, OC, Crede, Toby They better start benching Thome really soon, then. And they'll want to find a decent replacement for both Cabrera and Crede.
  6. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 10:05 PM) Lets just play worst case scenario for a second. Lets say this team just continues it's downward spiral, and misses the playoffs. Now this is the absoulte worst thing that can happen right now. If that were to happen, this was a team that was in first place in the month of August. Given that, should Williams really have done a rebuild project as you say everyone else wanted? Save the "Well if the team doesn't win the World Series the season is a failure posts", as thats not what I'm getting at. My math may be off, but I'm pretty sure right now no team in the Central can lead the division for more games than the Sox have this season. Is that really the type of team that needed to be "rebuilt"? On top of it, with what Williams did last off-season, and the contracts that come off the books this off-season, I dont see ANY reason why a "rebuild" process has to happen next year. Yes. I don't give a s*** who was leading the division the longest. If they don't win the division, it's honestly time to think about rebuilding. The old guys are just going to get older, and worse.
  7. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 08:15 PM) Nah, Vazquez at least has great physical talent but no mental ability. Aside from throwing the ball fairly accurate long, Rex sucks. I mean more in the sense that fans of the respective teams talk up all the talent the guys have, but they both are just s***-bag players.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:51 PM) How about the fact that it seems like KW had to make a trade to find a replacement for Swisher, who he gave up 3 of his top 5 prospects for? I never want to hear KW talk about not having "$1.00" to make trades. Well, since it was his idea to "go for it" again this year, when everyone else wanted to rebuild, then he should have some consequences if we fail to make the playoffs. We have nothing to build around in the minors.
  9. This is horse s***. AJ gets so much unearned garbage thrown his way. The guy is absolutely not a hothead. In fact, he seems to be quite level-headed. You could make a negative list of anything in baseball, and they'd always just put AJ first because people just believe it when they see it. EDIT: Not necessarily first, but he'd be on any of the lists.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) Our defense has been bad enough this season. Griffey Jr. out there just makes it so much worse. DAllen's stat about balls in play for Cincy is crazy. I didn't see that stat. It just feels like we're attempting to kill our chances. A pitching staff that's been getting worse for the last month and a half? Put the worst defense possible in the OF. Make a trade to put your worst offensive player on the bench? Start him anyway! Need pitching more than anything at the deadline? f*** it, trade a reliever for a one-dimensional hitter. Griffey was the last thing this team needed.
  11. I've been asking in the chat why PK is starting, he's supposed to be riding pine with the acquisition of Griffey. Also, Griffey is probably the worst CF in the league, or all of baseball. Perhaps he didn't feel like bending over to stop that ball from rolling past him on that triple.
  12. Is anybody going to be in there tonight?
  13. It's not like they were the stars, or even close. The movie was funny, although it did get slow when they had to "grow up" towards the end.
  14. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 05:27 PM) I cant believe any people dont feel that way. Even at this age he's twice the QB either of those guys are. He routinely took pasted together receiver corps and made them good. Rex Grossman = Javier Vazquez
  15. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Absolutely. I didn't like that film that much as it was what 40 year old virgin thankfully wasn't. I'm certainly not someone with soft ears, but the curvise language was really annoying. To me it was just another comedy with a bunch of sketch show castoffs that will eventually be played on Comedy Central over, and over, and over, again. Such as?
  16. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 03:24 PM) so Pop is a midwestern thing, Soda an eastern, Coke a Southern, Western is all over the place. Anyways what do you think Other is, i cant even think what people would call pop/soda I've heard tonic? But, that's pretty rare.
  17. QUOTE (JFields27 @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:41 PM) wait you dont think the 100's are part of chicago? I know they literally are part of the city, but I start thinking suburbs when I get out that far. I just grew up so far into the city that that doesn't seem like it's in the city to me.
  18. QUOTE (Soxy @ Aug 5, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) I don't know, I've never called Chicago "the city." Usually if I'm talking about it I say "downtown." Is that just me? People from other areas call it "the city." I'll give you an example of a conversation I always have. Person A: Where are you from? Me: Chicago. Person A: Are you from the actual city or suburbs? Me: I'm from the city, but I don't live "downtown." Then, the conversation turns to me describing the difference between living in Chicago, and living in a high-rise downtown. Also, I have a hard time describing anything towards the 100's, in terms of the streets, as still being part of Chicago.
  19. I'll use the address I lived at for 22 years. If I were to do it now, it'd be almost 1,000 miles. I'm also going to leave out the first part, because that's a little too much information for the internet. 2: Turn RIGHT onto W 44TH ST. 0.2 mi 3: W 44TH ST becomes S CANAL ST. 0.1 mi 4: Turn RIGHT onto W 43RD ST. 0.4 mi 5: Turn LEFT onto S LASALLE ST. 0.0 mi 6: Merge onto I-90 W/ I-94 W/ DAN RYAN EXPY W via the ramp on the LEFT. 0.5 mi 7: Take EXIT 55A toward 35TH ST. 0.2 mi 8: Stay STRAIGHT to go onto S LASALLE ST. 0.3 mi 9: Turn LEFT onto W 35TH ST. 0.3 mi 10: End at 333 W 35th St Chicago, IL 60616-3651 Estimated Time: 5 minutes Estimated Distance: 2.00 miles It's actually a much shorter distance on foot.
  20. Wow, the posters on IMDB are classless. There are already a bunch of threads saying "RIP" all over there. And yeah, the Maxima thing is weird.
  21. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 4, 2008 -> 10:13 AM) It was also a team coming off of a horrid second half. I believe it's been stated on here a few times, but the second half of 2005 wasn't as "horrid" as one would think. It was worse than the 1st half, but it had more to do with Cleveland's incredible play down the stretch. I want to say we were even pretty well above .500 for the second half.
  22. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) There are Sox fans on this board, and there are self absorb posters who are fans of themselves. They would rather be right then have the team win. You're not mad at us. You're mad at the White Sox
  23. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 05:04 PM) Yep, those would be the posters who don't seem to comment on the game. Rather, they just comment on posts made by people criticizing the team. That's the thing. The "negative" posters take their frustration out on the team. The "positive" posters take their frustration out on the "negative" posters. That's how it comes across, at least.
  24. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) crybaby sh** right there, pitch well, beat these terrible teams stop making excuses for this bullsh*t. I thought you said you couldn't watch this team anymore? You should go away if that's the case.
