  1. I believe Cooper could make Vazquez better, but that money would have to eliminate the Sox from getting him. That is, unless Arizona wants to pay for like half the contract (that NY isn't paying).
  2. I'm not even sure the Marlins will still gouge them. They're basically giving away players as long as someone will take their entire contracts. I'm sure they'll get more for Pierre than they would've before Furcal signed, but I don't trust them to gouge the Cubs.
  3. If Byrd is replacing Elarton (and they re-sign Millwood or get someone near his quality), then I'm unhappy with this move. If Byrd is replacing Millwood, then I'm happy. Hoffman is still pretty good, but his ERA wasn't too great last year in the terrible NL West in a gigantic stadium. He'd almost definitely be a downgrade from Wickman's performance from last year.
  4. f***. I'm pissed, even though 62.25 million is a lot per year.
  5. What scares me is that FG might want to go deep into these games because he actually cares about these games. It's not like he's going to be facing the Royals.
  6. I must've been out of it that day, because I can't remember that at all. It's also a pretty useless move, though.
  7. Really, really sweet. Haha, that's great. I like it.
  8. If Byrd goes to the Royals, Washburn to the Brewers, Millwood to the Mariners/Orioles, and Burnett to the Cardinals/Orioles/Blue Jays, then this offseason will be great for the White Sox. All of the pitchers will be going to NL teams or AL teams that either suck or don't affect the White Sox much.
  9. Wait, when did Castilla get traded to the Padres? I can't remember this at all.
  10. QUOTE(timotime @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 11:42 AM) you are like the kid in high school who hates the assistant principle, the one that is the disciplinarian. if that guy is gone, another will fill his shoes and do the same thing. welcome to reality. its the same thing with boras- if all his clients were to fire him, there would be some other aggressive agent who would pick all those clients up. so no, i dont follow, because thats the way business works in a capitalist society, regardless of what industry you are in. (i did not see your edit until i posted this) I think it's pretty ridiculous that you don't understand why everyone hates Boras.
  11. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 09:51 AM) The book was a hell of a lot more violent, and the trucks played a way bigger headtrip on the people stranded in the truckstop. Stephen Kings books are always better though, the way he writes just doesnt translate to the screen very well. There is just too much brain-talk going on and flashbacks and craziness that the stories have to be dumbed down to make the big screen. This is why my biggest fear is that Stephen King will one day try and bring The Dark Tower series to the movies. Yeah, it's hard to transfer a coke-induced trip to the big screen
  12. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 04:04 AM) http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Also, the Cardinals have offered Mueller a contract and want him to play second base for them. I'm beginning to hate the Cardinals as much as I hate the Yankees, Cubs, Giants, and Red Sox.
  13. I hope this happens. It'd be nice for Wakefield to suck a little more.
  14. QUOTE(YASNY @ Dec 3, 2005 -> 05:43 AM) Why is it that Baltimore can't seem to remember that pitching is a part of the game? This is the same franchise that had Palmer, McNally, Cuellar, etc. :headshake Maybe they'll land Burnett, Millwood, or Washburn?
  15. I'm more interested where Morris goes.
  16. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 05:06 PM) I like how the judge ordered him to pay $20,000 a month, based on their previous living expenses, but later in the story it says how they were living waaay beyong their means, which is why they are in trouble with the IRS. $65,000 a year in clothing? Hey, buy off the rack for once. Those robes don't come cheap or off the rack, buddy. The Nature Boy has to be extravagant.
  17. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 03:35 PM) I doubt that. Stewart is their leadoff hitter, and even if he did, thats fine too, he's no threat on teh bases and he won't get on base at a .291 clip again. Graffy wasn't hitting in front of Manny and Ortiz, though the one day he did he went 3-4 with an rbi and a walk , for one thing, for another thing I was looking at Pods, not Graffy. Nice try though. Castillo hit in front of Delgado for one season. Luis Castillo is better than Tony Graffanino. You are completely wrong. There is a reason that Graff couldn't start for the longest time on the Royals.
  18. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 2, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) IRS Troubles Yeah, I still remember when Irwin and Dibiase kicked his ass on Raw.
  19. There's no denying that this is a great trade for the Twins. They just got much, much better. You just have to feel sorry for anyone tied to the Marlins. Poor sons of b****es.
  20. Whenever I'm back home and there's a marathon of terrible, made-for-tv movies on SciFi, I always watch them. I LOVE those things.
  21. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:40 PM) I would take Washburn on my team as a 4-5 starter ANY day of the week, and you know there are teams out there desperate for pitching. I just dont get it. I must be missing something.... I think that's where the Boras aspect will come into play. Since this FA pool is so shallow, he might just wait until all of the other pitchers have signed. Then, someone that needs a starter will have to give Washburn much more than he's worth.
  22. He's also a Boras agent. Washburn, that is.
  23. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:37 PM) One name I have heard NOTHING about this off-season that I cant understand why is Jarred Washburn. He is a FA coorect? He is a LHP that had a 3.20 ERA is 170 innings, and I have not heard a single rumor about the guy.......... He is a free agent, yes. And it really is weird that we didn't hear anything about him. Before the year ended, I pictured him on a team like the Tigers for some reason. I thought there might have been some health issues with him, too, but I'm not sure.
  24. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Dec 1, 2005 -> 07:08 PM) well they wouldnt need a decent 1B w/ that lineup broussard or whoevr they have would be fine. Im not 2 sure about them resigning Millwood but I heard Hoffman for 2 years 8 million total. Their payroll is really small if they bring in Manny it could get the fans excited again and they have some prospects that they can give for the Red Sox to eat part of it at least. Even w/out Millwood they got Sabathia, Westbrook, and Cliff Lee and w/ a lineup like that it could be all they need. Hell they prob could bring back elarton for a pretty cheap price and than gave Davis another shot at the 5th spot. Elarton didnt have a good era but he is pretty decent and could put up a solid 4.5 era Than keep in mind they still have Riske and Betancourt in the bullpen to be setup guys. and Matt Miller is pretty decent also. They said Elarton is already getting other offers and that they might lose him. No matter how good Sabathia, Westbrook, and Lee are, they're still gonna need more than three starters. It's pretty necessary, and I don't know who they'll get. If Elarton leaves, and Millwood is almost certain to leave, then they'll need two more starters. The Angels reportedly upped their offer to Byrd, so who else is there?
