  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 11:04 PM) Well you've covered the Boras clients. Honestly, the Cubs could definitely use another starter but with their the holes left at short and in right I'm not sure whether they'll be acquiring a starter. Notice how just about all of the FA SP's that remain are Boras clients. Gee, that's odd that he'd let them hang around until teams are desperate to get whatever starters they can get, eh?
  2. Maybe the Cubs will look into acquiring someone other than Millwood, such as Washburn or Weaver?
  3. Damn, I was really hoping that some darkhorse team would get him somehow and leave the Indians desperately searching for a closer. Oh well...
  4. QUOTE(AnthraxFan93 @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 05:11 PM) Who cares they need to get some young good talent in there, trading for Benson is not a wise move.. Keep who you have and sign White to play the OF. I think it's pretty important for the White Sox. Every win will count next year, and having Benson or Redman pitching gives them a better chance of beating us. They still won't be good, but they might take a game or two more. And that's never good.
  5. Just let Garland pitch for us this year, and he can walk at the end of the season. If he knows he's pitching for a bigger contract, he'll try harder and most likely be better. After he walks, we can worry about filling his vacancy with one of a bunch of other FA's that will be available next offseason or through a trade or call-up. QUOTE(dmbjeff @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 01:55 PM) jon had a good yr last yr, but remember he got 18 wins cause he was the 5th starter facing other teams 5th starters, if he had to face santana, bonderman, etc on a more regular basis, he wouldnt have had such a good season...jon is no better than a number 3 starter on most clubs, he only becomes a #1 or #2 on the royals, drays, pirates, etc....just my opinion Thanks, Harold Reynolds.
  6. If they can get Benson, too, they're a lot better than they were last year. Of course they won't compete for anything, but they'll be harder to beat with Redman and Benson.
  7. QUOTE(fathom @ Dec 7, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) I don't get this trade at all. Lorreta is a damn good hitter. Teams like helping the Red Sox out. Wakefield will be considerably worse without Mirabelli catching him, most likely, but come on. This is really all the Padres will get?
  8. For all of the talk about the Marlins having the Cubs by the balls, it seems like they could've gotten someone like Hill. Besides, all of the Marlins fans were pissed that they were only getting pitching prospects a week ago, so I'm sure they're unhappy with getting three more of them and no hitters. Thank you, Pittsburgh Marlins.
  9. I thought the Marlins had them over a barrel? They got nothing good, plus all they got was more pitching prospects that they don't need.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 05:13 PM) Quick note and I am not sure if this has been mentions but we all know it is the Angels not the Angles right? You gotta change your avatar. It's the kiss of death for possible Sox trades.
  11. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 6, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) Considering what relief pitchers seem to be getting this off-season, I don't think it'd be a very good trade at all for us to trade one of the better left-handed relievers in baseball for a guy who spent half the year at AAA. Sorry, but Damaso Marte is worth a helluva lot more than a backup middle infielder. Yeah, I was about to say something like that. If they were going to accept a Joe Borchard for Burroughs trade, then why the hell would we send them Marte (a guy we can use for a better trade, if necessary)?
  12. How is that acceptable to ESPN? Seriously, how can he be allowed to say that kind of stuff? This is the kind of guy you'd like to see hit by a car. He's the same prick that said that s*** about Eddie Guerrero, too, I think.
  13. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 08:55 PM) Oh ya, cause Clemens wasn't pitching in a total hitters park? What Clemens did was downright amazing last year. The guy pitched his ass off, there is nothing you can do but tip your cap. Why not give the man the credit he's deserved. I laugh at how you guys think guys like Clemens would have been mediocre if he were in the AL last year. Let me guess, so would Chris Carpenter. Hell, I didn't see Curt Schilling's ERA skyrocket when he went from the NL to AL (from the Dbacks to the RedSox) and not only did he go to the AL, but he went to pitch in Boston (a hitters park). I said he'd still be good. I laugh at how you didn't notice that. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 10:29 PM) Clemens era from 1999-2003 was 4.60, 3,70, 3.51, 4.35 and 3.91. So, yes, Clemens did benefit from being in the NL. That doesn't mean he's not great. Hell, he's the best of this era, IMO. But it's silly to think he could maintain a 1.87 era or whatever it was in the AL. Pfft, stats.
  14. It's not just the park. It's the fact that he was in the weakest division in baseball (one of the weakest I can remember), and his numbers weren't that great. The AL Central is just a little better than the NL West, I'd have to say. He's getting older, too. And I think Clemens' success had a lot to do with the NL, too. He'd still be good in the AL, but he didn't magically get better when he left the AL.
  15. He had a 3 ERA in the worst division in baseball, in a gigantic pitcher's park, and now he's moving to the AL. I expect his ERA to be roughly 4.
  16. Jeez, did everyone involved with the Sox have a baby at some point during this season? They were busy in more ways than one.
  17. Damn, my bubble is completely burst now. Brian Anderson can't be good because someone said so.

Come on, who can really blame the guy? I mean really blame him. We can be upset that he'd like to play for another team at some point, but we all understand that feeling. Any of us would give anything to play for the Sox. If any of us were drafted by the Cardinals, I think we'd all like to one day put on a Sox jersey.
  19. Please, put him in RF.

Does Danny Boy count? Because if it does, it easily takes the cake for me.
  21. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2005 -> 01:29 AM) Thankfully, they have Kyle Farnsworth to fix all of their problems on the pitching side of the ball. If any collectors show up at the Yankees' door, they can just send him out to spear them, pick them up, slam them down, and bust their noses.
  22. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 4, 2005 -> 07:35 PM) The Marlins just got Gaby Hernandez and another minor league pitcher for Paul Lo Duca. Lo Duca really isn't that good. He's pretty overrated. It will be interesting to see what they get for Pierre, an established leadoff hitter that the Cubs desire. How good is Hernandez?
  23. I believe Cooper could make Vazquez better, but that money would have to eliminate the Sox from getting him. That is, unless Arizona wants to pay for like half the contract (that NY isn't paying).
  24. I'm not even sure the Marlins will still gouge them. They're basically giving away players as long as someone will take their entire contracts. I'm sure they'll get more for Pierre than they would've before Furcal signed, but I don't trust them to gouge the Cubs.
  25. If Byrd is replacing Elarton (and they re-sign Millwood or get someone near his quality), then I'm unhappy with this move. If Byrd is replacing Millwood, then I'm happy. Hoffman is still pretty good, but his ERA wasn't too great last year in the terrible NL West in a gigantic stadium. He'd almost definitely be a downgrade from Wickman's performance from last year.
