  1. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 09:26 PM) The Mariners are close to signing Jarrod Washburn to a four-year deal worth $36 million-$38 million, CBS Sportsline.com reports. ----------------------------------------------------------- For anyone who doesnt think Jon would make 12-13 mill with atleast a 6 year contract in the fa market next year, ha ha ha. What does that mean for Millwood, then? I really hope he doesn't re-sign with the Indians.
  2. I thought Grudzielanek was a sure thing to sign with the Mets? At least, I thought I read that.
  3. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Dec 16, 2005 -> 08:29 AM) Interesting. Here's the link for those who want to read the article: http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/sports/baseball/13421777.htm "Knowing they have extra outfielders"? It sounds like the Rangers would want to offer us Wilkerson for Garland. Too bad we don't need or want an outfielder, especially not a Boras client on a 1-year contract. But he'll be playing for a contract and happens to be a Boras, which means he'll have his best season ever. In the end, he'll never put up numbers as good unless he goes into FA again. It seems like that's the way things go with Boras clients. I guess the same could be said of Crede, though.
  4. Anyone think there'd be a chance of replacing Uribe with Crede instead? I just like what Uribe brings, and also the fact that he dumped Boras to stay here.
  5. That article mentions a reliever going their way. s***, we don't need to lose a reliever when we've already lost Marte and possibly Hermanson.
  6. QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) I would do the 3yr/$30M deal. What the hell is the difference? Oh would he not be able to feed his family. If i were him I would want to be in a place where I have a real chance to win a Championship. And he'll have that in Anaheim, plus lots of money.
  7. I hope KW shops Garland around a bit and raises his value through competition. I also hope he keeps Contreras. Cooper almost certainly can make Vazquez better, and I bet a lot of Vazquez's troubles came from playing in a place that he didn't much care for at all. It's not like the Diamondbacks really have anything going for them in terms of pitching, catching, etc. I can see where Vazquez's troubles could come from. And this stuff about Buehrle not re-signing because we traded away Garland is pretty odd. If Garland walks after this year, which he would, then Buehrle would still sign somewhere else because his bestest buddy wasn't there anymore. So, why the hell not get something for Garland now?
  8. QUOTE(ptatc @ Dec 12, 2005 -> 12:31 PM) Which Boras will do this to his clients. But also his negotiating tactics will decide if a player can stay with the original team. Look at Boras' two big clients: Milwood and Damon. He is holding them out until they are the last two queality players at their respective positions. This will get them more money and they have every right to do this. But do you think KW would have waited until Jan. for PK to decide what he was doing? I think KW wouldn't have waited so long to determine who was going to be on the team. In this case, it is the agent's negotiating tactics whichwould have determined that the player not go back to the original team. To say the player decides where he goes and not the agent is many times naive. Washburn and Weaver are also his clients, and it just so happens that those three pitchers are just about the only starters left on the market.
  9. You can look at this two ways, I think. Either KW is missing out on all these guys, or he's already got someone else on his radar that we might not even know about (trade, possibly).
  10. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 03:46 PM) Awesome. After hearing about clubhouse spies from Foulke and Durham, to players not feeling safe coming here due to the fans, and to players just not wanting to stay period...it is very nice to see it all. PK staying, Thome loving every second so far, AJP wanting to come back...they just gotta get Jon and Joe some of that mojo. What's that?
  11. I liked it, but I probably would've liked it more if I read the books. One thing that was stupid was the part with Santa. What in the hell was that about?
  12. QUOTE(DePloderer @ Dec 9, 2005 -> 04:36 PM) Did you not see any of the Lord of the Rings movies then? I'm amazed how America has to politicise EVERYTHING. It's just a farie tale, yes there are religious overtones in it, but so are there in many other "much loved" films. On the theme of death and resurection; E.T , Lord of the Rings (Gandalf the Grey / White) and even Star Wars used it to great effect. I'm taking my kids to see it on Christmas Eve. I thought I read somewhere that Tolkien was friends with the person that wrote Narnia. When Tolkien wrote a story with political undertones, Narnia's writer wrote one with religious undertones.
  13. The Orioles shouldn't, and better not, trade Tejada unless they absolutely rip off another team. Tell Tejada to shut up and play.
  14. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 08:20 PM) Hypothetically speaking, if Kenny traded for him, you're going to be saying the same thing? I doubt it. I still wouldn't like the idea that he basically took his money and decided to leave when he wasn't completely happy with the team's situation. But, of course I'd like to have a player of Miguel Tejada's caliber on the team.
  15. I hate how players can basically get themselves traded if they want to. You're getting pay, and extremely well, so shut the f*** up. EDIT: And Miguel isn't happy with the Orioles, he can go home and get his f***in' shinebox.
  16. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 07:26 PM) The piece @ Whitesox.com strongly suggested that Owens was in line to get the official "4th outfielder" spot. It didn't even mention Borchard, although it did say that KW was in line to trade for at least 1 or perhaps more than 1 promising lefty reliever that could hopefully give us what Marte brought a few years ago. That really made me think that Borchard was going to wind up sent off, possibly to drag in a young lefty reliever or two. The fact that his name wasn't anywhere in that article has to mean something. It at least said that Harris and Perez would probably be non-tendered. It also didn't mention Gload's future at all. I'm wondering if Gload and Borchard may well be the pieces KW decides to deal to grab a few young relievers from someone. Btw, if this does mean the end of Timo...that means we're replacing a guy who hit .218 wiht a .562 OPS with a guy who hit .272 with a .726 OPS. Yes, he may not be as "Clutch" as Timo, but over a couple hundred at bats, that's got to account for a few runs, right? I thought Mackowiak was actually clutch? If he is, then there's really no argument for having Timo over him.
  17. I tried to post it, but it's giving me this message: Sorry, dynamic pages in the tags are not allowed.
  18. Is there any possibility at all that this makes Fuentes available?
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 04:51 PM) UH OH! Well, Williams has disappointed me. Marte's trade was not as carefully planned as I envisioned. I thought there would be NO way he'd initiate a trade for Marte unless a replacement were ready underneath. It's not too much to expect this, right? There's a lot of time left before the season starts.
  20. Willie helped us win a WS title. He's golden in my books. If he's gone, I'll remember him fondly for that. That idea about Villone might actually be realistic. They probably can use a cheap, speedster 2B now that Castillo is gone. What are Villone's splits against lefties?
  21. I think I recall that Mackowiak always starts out hot and cools down a whole lot in the second half of the season. Looking at his stats, though, it seems that he might not have cooled down as much in the second half of last year.
  22. QUOTE(ChWRoCk2 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 01:30 AM) i dont get this, i guess hes gonna close, not too sure, brewers had a good closer IIRC No, I really, really, really, really, really, really, really doubt he closes.
