  1. They would probably have to stand on a chair to give Brandon a beer shower. I remember reading that when Shingo got his 1st win it was game 1 of a doubleheader. So he had the beer shower between the 1st game and the 2nd game. His translator wasn't there and he only had one pair of pants. So he got his pants wet with beer and he was trying to tell everyone to stop it.
  2. So Buehrle is not an ace because he struggled against Texas. A lot of pitchers do. They have the best lineup in the AL. Also the defense wasn't exactly great behind Buehrle.
  3. QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:44 PM) Kerry Wood is not an ace. no he isn't but Buehrle is and probably is one of the top 5 leftys in baseball. He might be the best behind willis and Santana. That=Ace.
  4. QUOTE(Sox Hustler @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:22 PM) LOL!! No s***, I thought u were exaggerating. is this guy Horacio Ramirez's brother? They have the same last name and were born in the same town? They also look alike.
  5. QUOTE(spiderman @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 07:06 PM) I thin it's becoming obvios that the White Sox played over their heads in the first half of the season. In the 2nd half, I think a couple points have been solidified, and I'd like to see what White Sox fans here think: 1) I know the price tag is high, and other teams haven't made significant moves, but Kenny Williams needs to do something to upgrade this lineup - even if just gives Ozzie Guillen another bat off the bench, anything! I realize Dmitri Young (or someone similar to him) isn't going to carry a ballclub, but he could be a contributor - right now, playing non-hitters like Geoff Blum, Juan Uribe, Timo Perez, Joe Crede, etc. from basically 6-9, 7-9 in the lineup regularly puts a lot of pressure on the top 6 hitters to do score most/all of the runs, and those guys aren't the type of players capable of doing that. 2) As we stand, the offense is pathetic. They do not have a #3 hitter in the lineup, and most of the hitters are #6 or #7 hitters (Dye, Everett, Rowand, Pierzyinski) in a good lineup. They don't usually put up more than a few runs in a game, putting tremendous pressure on the pitching staff to overcome the lack of run production. 3) Mark Buerhle is not an ace - he is a good pitcher, but no more than #2 on a pitching staff. 4) Jon Garland is pitching how he did last season in the 2nd half. Not consistent at all. 5) Freddy Garcia is the same pitcher he's been over his career - he seems to rise up/down according to his competition. 6) The White Sox need to make a decision about their closer - Hermanson should have the job, but he obviously isn't healthy. The bullpen has pitched well, but down the stretch I think you have to either go with him, or DL him and hope the team makes the playoffs and gets him back healthier OR go with Bobby Jenks down the stretch. 7) With all that, the problem isn't the pitching - yes, it has been uneven, but it can't be expected to win every game 3-2, 4-3. It has not been very often that the White Sox have won comfortably. - I'm not even sure the White Sox make the playoffs anymore. Sure, they still have a 6.5 game lead, and things could be even worse, but this team doesn't have an ace, is getting up and down performances for Garland, and has a closer who's injured, and haven't been depending on as much. The hitting is just not getting the job done, end of story. If they do make the playoffs, I see a first round, playoff exit. -- Feel free to offer your thoughts/commentary vs. my points, and let me add two more points - I don't think I'm overreacting - this has been going now for about 50 games, and, lastly, I'm a big White Sox fan, and watching this fall apart is really disappointing. Looking forward to good discussion. whats your definition of ace, Kerry Wood?
  6. QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Aug 30, 2005 -> 09:11 PM) Frank's not going to be able to get many more opportunities to get a ring, if at all, I'd love to see him be there for the Sox in October. I want to see Frank have that Kirk Gibson moment. He is trying to do what Lowell did in 03 for the marlins. Miss the last month of the Season and play in the playoffs.
  7. This sounds pretty promising. I saw a podiatrist a couple days ago to get a callis removed and i asked him about the Big Hurt situation and he said that their is a protective boot out their that would allow him to play and their would be a good chance that he wouldn't get injured any further. He did say though that he would probably need surgery at the end of the year. Link
  8. I love the Steve Stone Show. He always has good info on the Sox. Yesterday he said that he succesfully convinced some sox fans that he knew to get off the ledge.
  9. I say he still has a shot however he has to have a santana like september.
  10. I can't believe nobody has mentioned Jon Adkins or Kevin Walker.
  11. Buehrle needs to step up because right now he has been brutal. He is not an ace right now.
  12. f*** 3-0. Buehrle needs to step up. He has sucked in August. Their is no excuse for this crap. He has to start pitching like an ace.

    Rapper Shot

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 12:35 PM) You dont see a difference in Hip Hop and Gangsta Rap? Just because Big Boi and Andre 3000 can rap, doesnt mean they are Gangsta rappers which is what i was saying. In fact, many songs that Outkast and Jurassic 5 perform completely rip on Gansta rappers and their songs. The attitudes in this thread are not against Hip hop, they are against Gangsta Rap. The violent, thuggish "hacks" may only make up a small percentage of what is out there(doubtful), but alot of the mainstream rappers came from that background. Ludacris, 50 Cent, Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg, even Bone Thugs n Harmony could be considered among this group, even though alot of these guys are considered fakes because their background wasnt tough enough for the critics. The MTV generation likes the violence and thuggery, and they have a big say in top 40, whether we like it or not. I, for one, love Jurassic 5, GURU, Common, Mos Def, Outkast, etc. And you will never hear me calling them rappers just because they can flow. I love how Outkast doesn't have just one style. They aren't a rap group. They have done rock, they even have a Jazz track on one of their CD's, and Soul Music. Ice Cube said in an interview that the reason NWA was started and why they talked about what they did was to bring awarness to what was going on in the hood.

    Rapper Shot

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 07:25 PM) Personally I find it funny when rappers are the victims of violence. All they want to sing ( and I use that term VERY freely ) about is abusing women, killing cops, dealing drugs and anything else thats wrong and depraved so when something like bad happens to them I consider it poetic justice. not true for all rappers. Listen to OutKast, Public Enemy, LL Cool J, and others. Actually Gangsta Rap was originally designed to bring awarness to all the bad things that were happening in the Ghetto.
  15. Phillies they will get just enough pitching with the offense that they have.
  16. His name is Barry Shabaka Henley. He is the lovechild of Frank Robinson and Tubby Smith
  17. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Aug 28, 2005 -> 02:41 PM) Because, he's a rookie and if you're a rookie, it excludes you from doing anything special. Or, at least that's the way it almost sounds around here. He'll have his growing pains, he'll have his problems, but he's the best QB on the roster. I know we've been asking for this for years, but we don't need Orton to have a Ben Rothlisburger (sp?) type season. Hell, give me Chad Pennington version 2002-lite. Low INT totals, and I don't even need a guy who's going to make big throws. But, don't turn the damn ball over -- that's all we need, IMO. I don't think that will get us a championship, but it'll give us a fighting chance for every game with our defense... As long as Orton is servicable than the Bears will win 8-10 games. This team isn't built around the QB. It's built around the run and their defense.
  18. PG-13 for Fantasy Violence and Frightening Images. Looking forward to it. Also the new trailer is supposed to be coming out in front of Aeon Flux.
  19. I have no idea and I don't really want to know either.
  20. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:18 PM) I got hit in the nuts when my pitcher OKed the fastball sign and decided to cross me up and throw a slider around 70 mph. I was down for a good amount of time in pain, thankfully I had a good cup on. Was it a foultip that hit you in the wrist or off of the bounce? Both have happened to me over the years and it always kills, especially when it hits the bone sticking out of the wrist. no it hit me on the wrist on a fly. He usually has pin point control however he didn't have it. I had set up outside and he came inside so i moved my glove and it hit me right on the wrist.
  21. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ Aug 24, 2005 -> 10:07 PM) The fastest pitcher that I've ever faced threw 88 mph. All of the guys mentioned in this thread are amazing. That is damn fast. got hit in the wrist catching a 80 MPH Fastball. hurt like hell.
  22. Prior's fastball is not that fast. It's from 92-to at tops 95. His fastball is similar to Neal Cotts in that it has jump to it so the batter thinks its going 95 MPH. His curve is easily his best pitch. I would have to say that Jenks is probably the most consistent hard thrower in terms of getting it up in the high 90's.
  23. I saw Red Eye today. It's pretty good. It's not scary so much however it is very suspensful and the acting is pretty good.
