I have a cubs fan buddy who always tries to get a rise out of me, but I always tell him that his smacktalk dont mean a thing, without that ring. I point to my finger and smile, and he tells me he hates me and knows no matter what, I have already won.

I think Maynards media shyness ended when APC became as popular as they are now. I have seen multiple interviews of him in the past 5-6 years, and there was no covering of his face or any of that fun stuff.

Gotta love how Ozzie talks to a slumping hitter...

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 07:14 AM) And that's a really good statement Tony. You've seen how the Twins have handled Jason Bartlett, he should be in the majors no doubt, instead he's stuck in AAA while the Twinkies have Juan Castro of all people in front of him. Jason Kubel just a couple of days ago got demoted because Gardenhire wasn't using him enough. The Twins have a great knack for finding and developing good young pitching. It's lucky for us, they don't have that same knack for finding hitters. The wierd thing about the Twins is that they were all about letting the young guys play, and their young guys turned into a great team(Hunter, Pierzynski, Jones, Radke, Santana etc.), and now that great team is pretty much broken up, and the Twins are resisting another youth movement. I think Gardenhire was great for the Twins when they were ready to compete, I dont know so much about his ability to assimilate young players into the mix. So far his results have been a pretty mixed bag, and more recently he hasnt been all that good with his treatment of Kubel, Bartlett, Castro and Cuddyer. His development of young pitching has been pretty awesome though -
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 06:30 PM) At least I know you and Addy have very good taste. My kind of posters. Sophomore year of high school I had a crash course in BT&H, the guy who drove me to school played that s*** every time I got into the car. Either you learned to appreciate, which I did, or you walked.

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 06:27 PM) Eh.. that's an ok shot, but I can get a better pic if I wanted. But hey, that's what close homies are all about and I still like one of the four (five if ya count Flesh) best rappers in Hip-Hop history. I'll consider it though if it kinda bothers posters here. doesnt bother me at all. I love BT&H

QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 06:18 PM) Well Addy, I can understand, but minus Bizzy Bone, (who is mixed like me) these guys are clearly black. I thought you were gonna say Blackstreet. That's another "group" not "band" per say.. ya know. I think its the pose. Thats the boy band "We are all such great friends!" pose right there. I think you should make it a no doubter.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 08:00 AM) And there's a couple of rumors saying that Isiah Thomas wants Scott Skiles now to be his next head coach. And I'm sure Scott is gonna run over there in joy and sign straight away. LOL, Isiah and his well laid plans....

Bowden is still living off of the reputation he got as a great GM the year that the Reds won 96 games and missed the playoffs because of a one game playoff. It all has been pretty much downhill for him since that year.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:25 AM) Name me somebody that has better pure all around stuff than Count other than Burnett. Burnett and Count may not be the 2 best pitchers in baseball, but in terms of raw stuff, they are top 2. It's just so great to see him using all of his pitches and making people look horrible. I wouldnt put Burnett at the top in terms of Raw stuff. Maybe when he came into the league, but not now after all of his arm problems. There are a couple of arms on the Tigers who I feel have better stuff than Burnett(Zumaya, Verlander, Bonderman), and I think there are a few on the A's who have better stuff as well(Haren and Harden). Burnett belongs to the "10 cent head" club as well, so i have to deduct points for that. JMO though

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) Usually after seeing a play a couple times and in slow motion, it loses its Wow! factor and actually starts looking almost ordinary. I originally thought the play wasn't that spectacular, now, after seeing it for about the 10 time, Wow. He basically threw the ball underhanded and across his body, with his head almost upside down. I am still in disbelief that he didnt throw the ball into the stands.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 09:12 AM) The impressive thing about Contreras right now is that I don't even think he's close to having his great forkball yet. I went home and watched the tape of the game last night, and he was mowing hitters down with his sidearm fastball/slider. When he starts nailing that forkball again, this league doesnt stand a chance.

Does this futuresox crap really belong in Palehose talk? Futuresox has their own site, leave it there... All jokes aside, great article. The way this website is expanding and progressing is nothing short of astonishing, and i am glad to be able to be a small part of it.

QUOTE(greg775 @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 10:41 PM) No need to jump off the bandwagon yet. As long as we're winning, he can play and try to learn from this. p.s. Did you see how frustrated he was after his final at bat? Did you see how awful his swings were in his final at bat? I would be frustrated too. He had a nice single in the first inning and then the Royals just moved in and out on him and he just got confused in every at bat. -
QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 12:31 AM) Why is that worthy of a 4-man headbang salute?

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ Apr 18, 2006 -> 08:20 AM) When Mike Cameron hit his 4 HR's against us, didn't he do it in the 1st 4 AB's of the game? Oh yeah, him and Juice Boone had a nice round of home run derby off of Mr Confidence, Jim Parque. I think there was one more player involved in the HR shenanigans that day, I know at least one more player went deep. Jerry Manuel was reading in the dugout or something, I cant remember. I doubt he could remember either.

QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 17, 2006 -> 10:38 PM) He hit .337 over two seasons in the Japanese league--great. I don't think the level of competition over there is anything near MLB--despite what Valentine says. Like I said, If Gooch proves me wrong, I'll gladly eat crow. I jsut don't expect him to hit over .300 here in MLB. Its not the same level of competition, sure, but that doesnt mean that everything they do over there doesnt apply. Do we completely dismiss minor league numbers when players make it to the big leagues? Or do we use them to gauge their progression? Ichiro came over to the US and in under 5 years broke the single season hits record. People could see that Ichiro could hit, he just needed to get adjusted to the MLB. Same thing with Iguchi. He is still getting acclimated, but look at the difference in results from last spring to this spring. He knows how pitchers in the MLB pitch to him now and he can adjust much, much better. I think Iguchi is going to hit over .300, especially with a healthy Jim Thome hitting behind him. Im going to go on record and say that Iguchi is going to serve you up some crow sushi, with a huge side of wasabi to clean your sinuses afterwards .
