2015 Films thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 01:12 PM) Lost made sense to me because there was so much mystery and theorizing. It was perfect water cooler entertainment. Walking Dead and Game of Thrones fill two genres (apocalypse/survival and fantasy). I wasn't meaning to say that I don't get why people like Star Wars or why people find it interesting. It's more the intensity of the fandom I don't get. To the point where people will supposedly spend thousands or tens of thousands just to see the movie when it premieres. There's an obsession to it that really is unrivaled. Star Trek is pretty close in obsession, if not equal

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 12:29 PM) UZR is nowhere near as harsh about him and I mean, I watch the guy and I dont see anything wrong. He makes the plays he's supposed to and occasionally the one's he's not. He's developed a reputation for being an airhead amongst Cubs fans but as a White Sox fan I'm an expert on airheads and the guy seems to get a bad rap. I think the perception on him is misguided and has a lot to do with his appearance. I'm not saying trade Quintana for him, but if you can some weasel your way into a deal that brings him here I'd be properly excited. Actually his reputation is that he doesn't make the ones he is supposed to make because of focus issues. If he was such an above average defender, Maddon wouldn't have moved him to second

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 09:17 AM) And yet you fail to understand the White Sox are never going to approach being an average offense without adding 2-3 position players for a starting pitcher. We have just struggled through three wasted, nearly unwatchable seasons. 2016 will be another. The White Sox won't sign Gordon, Heyward, Cespedes, Zobrist, Upton, Wieters or Chris Davis. I guess we can return to this conversation at midseason in 2017, assuming Chris is still 100% healthy. How am i failing to understand that by saying that your trade idea is totally bunk and destroys the value that Sale possesses? Everything in this above post is assumption that you post as fact

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:44 AM) No no no. It was Schwarber, Baez and Soler originally. Kyle then said that would be the worst trade in Sox history basically. Because it is. You somehow seem to fail to understand Sale's worth in your eagerness to list out all of the cubs minor leaguers that you know and here is your original quote, since you seem to be re-imagining it QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 05:44 PM) The problem is Chris Sale is still an assumed health risk to many. Expecting Bryant and Russell back in a trade is completely unrealistic. You will get Baez and/or Castro. Other than Baez, Schwarber and Soler, there's just no way you get three guys who can hit 30-40 homers at the mlb level back for Sale. The White Sox can't wait forever on prospects...they need players one year or less away from the majors, or younger players who have begun to establish themselves a bit. It won't happen simply because the Cubs can buy whatever pitching they want and trade some of those players at peak value. Fwiw, Schwarber would seem perfect for the AL and Sox specifically. Which of course means he would end up a total bust. Basically you are saying "The Cubs dont need to give their top prospects to the Sox for a top 3 pitcher in the game. They just need to give a position-less DH, a outfielder that is constantly injured and cant play in the cold, and a infielder that might strike out more than adam dunn but he will hit some homeruns. Oh, these guys MIGHT hit 30-40 homeruns"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:38 AM) Where did I say that? Jesus. I said Schwarber, Baez and Soler. Just to pacify you, it was amended to Russell, Schwarber and Baez/Soler. As soon as we ask for Russell instead, that will be the end of the discussion. And yet quite a few want to trade for 3-4 completely unproven minor leaguers from the Red Sox system that they've never even seen play...and Moncada isn't even one of them. Oh thank you for pacifying me be trying to make your trade a little more believable. Consider me pacified And to the bolded, where is this and who cares

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 22, 2015 -> 08:22 AM) Too bad the fans were mostly gone by then. The Cubs need to flip someone for pitching. If you cannot take advantage of the wind blowing out at Wrigley with a lineup of strikeout or homer guys you may want to bolster that weak rotation. Hammel and Hendricks are not guys you want starting in the playoffs. Caulfield is trading Baez and Soler straight up for Sale, they will be fine

Expecting top prospects for Sale is not unrealistic, you have to pay to play and if the sox should (God forbid) decide to trade sale, they better get top prospects and not second tier prospects like you are saying. This is all conjecture garbage that favors the Cubs in the deal, not equal and and certainly not the sox. If the Cubs don't want to part with top talent for top talent, you move on, you don't give them a top three pitcher for players they don't need. And the other point about being afraid of injury and of the 2017 market is just as much crap. pitchers get injured, it's the way the game goes. You don't trade a player for fear of injury or because the market might be bad. Chris sale is a diamond chip and you act like the sox are ready to throw him on the table because they don't like the color of the chip

QUOTE (Dunt @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 05:21 PM) No joke, on 670 just now, Bruce Levine said Jorge Soler has 40 HR potential if he can stay healthy. Wow. I don't think that is as far fetched as you think. The guy has some serious power, his problem is he can't stay healthy and doesn't like playing in cold weather

2015 Films thread
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 05:07 PM) I was born in 1981, when I was a kid I used to watch Empire Strikes Back repeatedly. My parents were not into the movies at all, so hard to tell where I got it from. Episodes I, II and III unfortunately suffer due to being compared with IV, V, VI. There is just no way to have the shock factor of the Darth Vader reveal in the prequels. Who knows what the reception would be if you dont know that Anakin turns into Darth Vader, the same goes for Obi-Wan, Yoda, Palpatine, etc. There is just no way to repeat the impact of the originals because there was no surprise. That is why they erased all of the post Return of the Jedi canon. Will they be as good as IV, V, IV? Who knows. It will be hard to compare, but they have a chance to be really good. Oh and I wouldnt be surprised if Luke is in semi-exile like Obi-Wan. In fact I wouldnt be surprised if it follows a very similar story arc. Luke tries to train new Jedi's and one of them turns to the dark side, with Luke having to come back to defeat them. The funny thing is that is a big part of the post RotJ canon that was erased. Luke goes off to be by himself and then starts a Jedi training "academy". One of the trainees finds a Sith temple on the planet they are on, and a Sith ghost basically brings the kid to the dark side. The rumor is that Luke goes into exile in the movie because he fears his own power and how it could be corrupted like his father was.

Not stopping at a stop sign? Really police?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 02:31 PM) My biggest problem with you is you often do not read my posts. You have some preconceived notion of me and you don't want to accept the fact I may be a normal law abiding good person. I have never denied I was guilty; I paid the fine the next day. As far as the kid flying through the intersection at 1 a.m., I'd see the bicyclists light on his bike in that scenario and I did 'stop' I just rolled through. I would ask you and all soxtalkers to comment on my comment about the cop breaking the unwritten rulebook code of cop-citizen in this case. Warning, no ticket for such an offense when the driver has nothing on his record. Baseball has a ton of unwritten rules; the cops had one in this town as well until I got pinched. Patently false. I read them, and i see you talking in third person all the time telling everyone "greg has supporters they just dont post about it" and nonsense like that. There is nothing pre-conceived, it is conceived by reading what you write. I know you paid your fine. I know you abide by the law. I also know that you have done nothing but repeatedly slam a cop for doing his job "to fill the city coffers" as you like to state it. It is the cops discretion if he should or shouldnt issue a ticket vs a warning. Sorry dude, you lost, this isnt baseball and there are not unwritten rules. It has nothing to do with coffers, or him laughing back in his cruiser. If you would have stopped, he would have left you alone.

Not stopping at a stop sign? Really police?
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 01:48 PM) Because it's like baseball's "unwritten rule book." The unwritten cop-law-abiding citizen rule book says you get a warning for such a non-heinous crime such as rolling a stop sign when basically nobody's on the road. The cop had to be laughing his ass off on his way back to the car after nailing me. You can tell if a guy is being pompous to you and he was. The prick got his 140 bucks for the city. He should have done a little endzone dance for me cause he won the battle, yes he did. He really wanted a DUI though and didn't get the quinella this time. What if you rolled through that stop sign like you obviously think you should be able to, at any time you want with no repurcussions, and some kid riding his bike home flies through the intersection in a black hoodie that makes him very hard to see and you hit him because you blew the stop sign? Why dont you quit begging for sympathy, pay your ticket, and stop at a stop sign like I do every time I get to one? And stop complaining about it. I dont support you, and the only one here being pompous is you because you feel like you dont deserve a ticket for breaking the law. the cop was doing his job

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 11:39 AM) Schwarber, Baez and Soler for Sale. Probably would have to substitute Castro for Baez or Soler....making the deal a no go but definitely interesting. Maybe we could throw in Avi and Sanchez/Micah to get Soler back. White Sox sign Jordan Zimmermann. Instant title. Sale would of course end up like Mike Sirotka or Matt Karchner and Cubs' fans would be whining for decades. this is such terrible. much much terrible

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Oct 21, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) The Nationals are a good example. They shut down Strasburg in 2012 because they just assumed they'd be at the top of the NL for the next 5-6 years. The Cubs' position players are young but their pitching staff is pretty much all on the wrong side of 30 and old pitchers are a big injury risk. They couldnt account for how bad of a manager Williams was. And the pitching staff is right at 30, Zimmerman is 29, Scherzer is 31, Gio is 30, Strasburg is 27, Roark is 30, Fister is 31. It isnt like they are an old rotation

i remember going to the Carbondale theater to watch the Re-Release of a New Hope and it was crazy, people were all dressed up, the age range was from small child to middle age adult (some elderly), and the place was PACKED. For weeks, they pulled in that crowd every weekend. On movies that were 20-25 years old
