  3. I bet the dodgers are praying that Thompsons career minor league .747 OPS is just a mistake, and didn't actually happen
  4. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:43 AM) Sure they hit homers...but not with swing and miss low obp sluggers, fawned over hereon. Sox had players across the board who who could hit. They also played impeccable defense and dumped a slugger at a steep discount to shore up his and other positions. So wait, it's ok to dump a homegrown flawed player to shore up other positions? Strange. You know what they should have done that year is platooned Lee and Borchard. They were flawed but they were ours!
  5. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 09:16 AM) Sure they do. They just think they're good when they're really flawed. Heck Melky didn't have that much better year than Avi; but somehow he's a solid #2 hitter, while Avi, in his first full year, is garbage. (not to mention that the cw is that Avi won't take a walk; for this organization, his walk rate isn't terrible and it's better than Melky's was). Laroche had a .697 against right handed pitchers; .383 against lefties (.383!). Tell me, why does the field manager let him hit against lefties? That's because Melky has a good career in his history and Avi has done exactly the same thing since he has been in the major leagues. But I don't expect you to look at that, since all you can do is cite small sample size . Fwiw I want nothing to do with Laroche but he is mediocre at best so it makes sense that you want to platoon him and keep him around, instead of upgrading with players that are better than him, I mean heros
  6. A lot of teams don't prefer to use flawed players the way you do
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 06:33 AM) Jimmy is a Thibs guy. No reason for him to make those comments to the media. But Gar/Pax set themselves up for this. They leaked info to the press making it appear everyone was sick of playing for tyrant Thibs. We also know how the GM hiring his buddy tends to work out. It is a mismatch. Hoiberg could be a great coach and fun to play for, but the Bulls personnel doesn't seem to jive with what he wants to do. Maybe something will click here soon,,and they actually will look like they hav a shot. I don't think so though, and it wouldn't surprise me if Jimmy is trying to talk his way out of town. The first year into a big deal isn't a very good time to talk your way out of town
  8. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 06:38 AM) but they have many assets they can use in trades to get players of similar talent, but younger, and if needed, to overspend to get it done. He is talking about signing free agents
  9. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 11:25 PM) No doubt they are low on cash but in their eyes they are close to being a WS team so I'm guessing they go for it. The Sox are currently at their speculated limit and coming off a down season with bad attendance, yet are rumored to be interested in Upton and Cespedes. When the Sox and cubs front offices say they are out of money or at their limits, I take it with a grain of salt. As for Schwarber. The cubs have said they are considering moving him back to catcher. Otherwise they leave him in LF, stick with their plan of Heyward in CF and move Solar for a pitcher and play Gordon in RF. They may move him back to catcher eventually, but Ross and Montero are both on the roster still, and they want to keep Schwarbers bat in the lineup as much as possible
  10. I never want to see abreu bat second again

  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) Wasn't it effective? Maybe that was KW's unique way of saying ____ or get off the pot. Now Hahn has put the ball 100% back in JR and KW's hands in terms of okaying another big signing. There's little more he could have done without trading Robertson, Q, Fulmer or Anderson. He's done his job. Now it's about payrolls, performance and the coaching staff doing its job in the spring to come out of the gates chomping at the bit. No, it wasn't. Hahn called in to the score yesterday morning and spent a frustrated portion of that time saying that he is sick of talking about inter office dynamics and would rather be talking about Frazier. KW undermining Hahns authority to the media doesn't make Hahn move faster.
  13. Yea, theo doesn't make Hoyer look bad like KW has with Rick
  14. QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 09:48 AM) my dislike for kw is well known. but for this statement, ref the bold, how does he know if kw is undermining hahn or not, is it an assumption or has he heard something. ... just wondering. He is talking about KW talking to the press and making dumb statements
  15. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) FWIW Levine has been really talking up Cespedes for the White Sox. Yea he also really talked up Samardzija to the Cubs, and Quintana to the Cubs for Baez
  16. Baffoe is a funny Twitter follow
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Dec 19, 2015 -> 09:30 AM) Scott Sheilds?lol He was so bad, his manager refused to use him for 5 years
  18. Just a fun way to see if Soxtalk can guess correctly
  19. I don't understand why Hoiberg went with the same 5 guys all throughout the 4 OTs
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Oh Jimmy why. Yea Jimmy Yea!
  21. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 08:41 PM) I'll never understand how De Aza went from a well above average CF to a suddenly dumb baseball player It coincided with Feeky falling in love with him
  22. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 03:41 PM) If he's still hitting the high 90's and dominating when he's 32 at the end of this new extension, I won't be afraid to eat my words. I just don't see it happening, especially because he's had TJ surgery recently. TJ hasn't affected his velocity in the past, iirc this is his second TJ surgery. If it was shoulder I would be concerned. This isn't a bank breaking deal to worry about
  23. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 03:36 PM) It's not scientifically proven or anything like that, but isn't it fair to say that a pitchers velocity "falls off" as they age? Jones' main asset is his ability to light up the radar gun and I just don't know how effective he'll be in a few years when he's only hitting 93 or 94 instead of 98 and 99 like he is now. He is 29, you are acting like he is in his mid 30s. The guy has thrown an easy high 90s since he has been on the organization, just took a very team friendly contract, and you don't like it because he -might- fall off because of an unproven(by your own admission) fall off age. That is just strange
  24. QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Dec 18, 2015 -> 03:15 PM) I explained why I disliked it. I guess $8 million or so over 3 years isn't too bad, but I'd rather have seen that money go towards an outfielder. I don't really understand your reasoning though, I never really read anything that indicates power pitchers fall off at age 29
