QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:24 PM) Yet despite that interesting presence (and one of the top 5-7 pitchers in baseball), we're still somehow trailing Houston and Miami in attendance. Bottom 5 in tv ratings, 28th in attendance. One would shudder to think how depressing this season would have been without Abreu and Rodon (now). No GM>Cubs>TV ratings>Jose Abreu>Chris Sale>white sox. because attendance

gotta be a surreal experience for Sting. His entire life he was against the grain, and now he is in.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 02:02 PM) I can kind of see the difference there though, despite thinking it's dumb. DUI's aren't usually willful violations. You can have a few beers legally and drive. But you might be drunker than you think, and then it suddenly becomes illegal. With pot there is no grey area. It's always illegal. Im curious how this works in Colorado and Washington now -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) I doubt anyone would know about it if you were just Kyle and not a professional athlete. No, my job let us know upon hire that anything crime related is constantly searched. Basically, if my name comes up on a police blotter, HR knows when it happens. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 01:27 PM) If you beat your wife, does your employer suspend you or take part of your pay check? If I did what Blackmon or Rice did, I would lose my job. 100 percent positive -

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:44 AM) Brandon Marshall was fined for wearing the wrong color shoes, but I don't think he was ever fined or suspended for the couple times he was arrested for domestic abuse. yea he was He slid on one, and on another he was stabbed by his wife. -
Avila's position of choice has destroyed him. he just cant stay healthy. I still think he is good, but we will never see what he was for that flash of a season

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 10:35 AM) What I don't get is if they really think his arm is going to be a problem, why up your offer multiple times in the last minute, but then let the kid slip away over a million a half. It is one thing to bid the minimum to keep compensation. But to let him and 2 other picks walk because of $1.5 million? Either he isn't worth it because his arm is wonked, or he is OK, and worth the number one pick. Pay him his money and move on. I think Houston's late bidding activity directly contradicts their public contentions about his health being a factor. You have to wonder if Aiken and Close just shut the door when the lowballing began, and just kept it closed even if the Astros came back to their original offer. After an experience like that coupled with the issues with Springer and Appell and Singleton, why would anyone want to begin their career with the astros.

Plaxico Burress got 4 games for shooting himself, and Brandon Marshall was fined 25K for wearing the wrong color cleats Ray Rice was suspended 2 games and fined 58K for beating his fiancee unconscious and dragging her into an elevator by her hair. Totally makes sense -
QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 09:10 AM) There's no way you can argue swapping Mirotic and McDermott for Love does not improve this team offensively. Mirotic is a third string power forward. I am all about making this trade, no questions asked, but you have no idea what Mirotic is. Nobody really does yet

Sox willing to deal Beckham in "right deal now"

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:53 AM) We very easily could have had Bonilla and Bonds together instead of the Pirates (along with Thomas, Ventura, McDowell, Alvarez, Sosa, Bere, Thigpen, Hibbard, Radinsky, Fernandez and Lance Johnson). Talk about a loaded team. Oh, well. Life goes on. If they had Bonds and Bonilla from the get go, there is a good chance they arent in any position to draft a good chunk of the players you just listed -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 08:17 AM) Does it work cap-wise? At this point, the FO has to just make it work. It may not look feasible to us, but the bean counters tend to do a lot of magic when things like this happen

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 24, 2014 -> 07:31 AM) There is someone w 24 saves in the current bullpen???? I don't think the Sox have 24 saves total in the bullpen. There are plenty of people with high ERAs and bad peripherals that blow games in our bullpen, which is what i meant. I love how everyone conveniently forgets how many games Reed blew last year and how bad he looked down the stretch when his fastball lost life and he was tired. But hey, Reed=Playoffs.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:50 PM) Gasoline? 24 saves and five blown saves in this day and age? I'll take it. Especially being in Chicago he was very comfortable and in my opinion would have had another fine season. He's a fine relief pitcher. Geez. Hahn blew it big time having no bullpen, absolutely no bullpen. I simply disagree that Nate would have done the job. Not with his control and his bizarre delivery. I don't like him as a prospect at all. It cost the Sox a shot at the wild card that is for sure. Lol. Ok greg

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 08:19 PM) He is based on his religious beliefs. However, I don't disagree with him that a rookie player coming in with his own camera crew and Oprah doing a "reality" TV show would be a major distractron for a team. From a head coach perspective, I don't think a borderline NFL talent would be worth it all regardless of why the rookie had the camera crew. The Oprah thing was already dead and buried when he made that comment, according to the reporter and Sam. I believe the Oprah Sam reality show was cancelled on May 16th. -
QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:08 PM) When Greg said that the trade was "laughably bad" it was probably an exaggeration, certainly an inaccurate adverb. No one here is laughing. But it was not a good trade. It'll likely take another year before the trade can be accurately assessed, but I'm sure Hahn did not forsee Davidson hitting .210 in AAA with gobs of strikeouts. Reed now up to 24 saves by the way, which is a fairly predictable level for him. 5 blown saves, 1.99 HR/9, 3.98 era. He is gasoline, we all saw that last season, there is enough of that in the current bullpen

QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 10:00 PM) Tigers' prospects seem to never really pan out though. As much as I love and want Avi to succeed, I still have doubts. Eh, that Verlander guy turned out ok. Avila is good too. They have been good about unloading their prospects for the major league team, though.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 09:49 PM) I was so pissed (pun intended) when I saw how small my kidney stone was. This little thing barely bigger than a grain of sand caused me excruciating pain for 2 days. Isn't it somewhat broken up because you had to take stuff to make it break down(cranberry)?

QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 23, 2014 -> 03:41 PM) Sidney Rice retiring at 27. Probably smart. Too bad he kept getting hurt. Think he could've been a stud wasnt he extremely adverse to surgery of any kind?
