Official 2008-2009 NHL Thread
Supposedly the Hawks are after Brendan Shanahan, which many of us were in favor of earlier in the year.

Danks quote on election
The other day his status was "I'm moving to Mexico" so I guess he was pretty against Obama.

ELECTION NIGHT RESULTS
QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 04:40 PM) Eh, not really. We'll just have to agree to disagree 'cause there's no changing my opinion. Even my buddy (who's black) who I watched the coverage with last night thought the random people crying was a little over the top, but whatever... Damn those emotional people who truly care about the direction this country is taking.

Penny's option declined....
Foolish to decline an option that pays an above average starter less than 10 million.

Gold Glove Award Winners Announced for Both Leagues
QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 03:41 PM) McLouth wins the award the same day Bill James announces he is sabermetrically the worst fielder in his position. I love it.

Behind the Scenes of the Campaigns
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) I thought it was hilarious when Obama said his october surprise was going to be that his middle name was actually Steve. That made me laugh. I wish it were true!

Behind the Scenes of the Campaigns
QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Some of that info makes me think even more than I already was that McCain wasn't running his campaign at all. The campaign and the person just didn't match. ROVE

Next minority to become Pres.
Pretty soon white males will be the minority, so I'll go with that. A white male minority president will be elected in 2016.

Catch-All Anything Thread
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 02:11 PM) My dog is being put to sleep back home as we speak. It sucks. I've been there man, that's not easy. In your mom's situation, I think you guys should get her a new pooch for X-Mas. Everyone thinks that's crass, but it always helps things.

Gold Glove Award Winners Announced for Both Leagues
They don't even bother with this pointless award, so why should I bother caring. I highly doubt Maddux's old, fat ass was the best fielding pitcher in the NL this year.

NOT a new name for the IF rumor's....
Ugh, no thanks.

Bradley Effect
QUOTE (lostfan @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 12:05 AM) Can I get out my shovel to bury the Bradley Effect? Yes, it is dead.

Michael Crichton Dead at Age 66
QUOTE (scenario @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 12:11 PM) 'A Case of Need' is a little known classic. Definitely worth the time. One of his first and written under a different name. That's a very good book. 'The Terminal Man' was also incredible.

Michael Crichton Dead at Age 66
Wow, that's too bad. He wrote many entertaining books, and Jurassic Park, ER, and The Andromeda Strain will stand out in entertainment for some time.

"Don't Trade Vazquez" official thread
QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 11:45 AM) That's correct. Javy has never had a season where his ERA was over 4.50. Ok, so 3 of his last 5 were over 4.50. Zoinks, Scoob.

"Don't Trade Vazquez" official thread
Only trade Javy if the deal brings us back something useful. You can't jsut give away a guy who's a guarantee for a sub 4.50 era.

Obama's Senate Seat
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 10:07 AM) If that's the case, bet on Jesse Jr. Jesse Jr said last night he would not leave his current position.
-
Obama's Senate Seat
On a local news station last night, Blago at least stated he would not be filling the seat.

Why Obama?
QUOTE (Texsox @ Nov 5, 2008 -> 08:39 AM) It is almost indescribable the opportunity Obama has. If he somehow keeps together this base of support and can expand it even a little, we have something close to the America we think we have and the image we want to project around the world. I have always believe we grow from the bottom up, not the top down. He has fired up the bottom, fix them, and we fix the world. If we fails, it will be sad, but we will fail while attempting something special. I feel like this election has already given our popularity around the globe the shot in the arm it so desperately needed. Obama has a strong support base, and I think he'll do an incredible job.

The Democrat Thread
This was a clean ass-kicking, and we all should have expected it.

Thank You John McCain.
I too thought that McCain was his best in concession. Why he couldn't be that genuine throughout his campaign, I'll never know. He easily ran one of the worst campaigns in recent memory. Last night I feel like we got our first glimpse of the real John McCain since he won the Republican nomination. The outcome works for me, though.
