  1. QUOTE(BlackBetsy @ Oct 11, 2005 -> 11:57 AM) Agreed. Wouldn't even meet the low threshhold of a quality start, and his season ERA was better than that performance. He gave up 8 baserunners in those 5 1/3 innings - he's lucky the Yankees didn't toast him and that Matsui is a huge choker. If the Angels as a team have a 5.03 ERA and 1.5 WHIP like Santana did in his "Great" performance last night against the Sox, they are screwed. If Crosby and Sheffield don't collide, or if Sheffield holds on, everyone would be talking about Jeter's home run in the 7th (assuming the Yankees went on to win) off of Santana and how great Jeter is, and how great Randy Johnson is. Thank goodness for Bubba Crosby! Yeah. I, too, thought they were going a little overboard.
  2. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Oct 9, 2005 -> 10:37 AM) Not what I would have done at all. If we lose this series, then Ozzie will be criticized regardless of what happens in Game 4. If Garland pitches great and we win the game, the question will then be why not pitch Garland earlier and give him two starts. If Jon pitches poorly and we lose the game, it's all on Ozzie for giving him such a long rest. I'd much rather switch Buehrle and Garland, especially if we're playing the Yankees. With all that said, I'm done being critical of Ozzie. He's gotten us this far and he knows the team far better than me, so it's probably a good move. EDIT: I guess I'm more upset since I feel Jon's getting shafted after being our best starter during the season and I don't think that's fair. If we lose the series, Ozzie will be criticized no matter what. All of us "experts" ripped him for sticking with Hernandez. Seemed like the right call.
  3. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 05:09 AM) The Red Sucks and Flubbs are playing golf already. If the Spankees get eliminated by the Angels does that mean that ESPN goes off the air for the season? If that happens they wont have anyone left to cheer for. An Angels win today means that Baseball Tonight will be disbanded and Sportscenter will be wall to wall football highlights. I can't wait.
  4. Boston: We put you into the playoffs by sweeping Cleveland and then knocked you out three straight in the playoffs. We own you, dudes. How's it feel?
  5. These guys seem to have the right attitude and are saying the right things. They're looking for more.
  6. All my superstitions went out the window with this series. Thanks Sox!!
  7. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Oct 8, 2005 -> 06:44 AM) http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/ Huh? "It's not always the best team that wins, it's the team that gets the hottest." -- Tim Wakefield. Tim must have missed those 99 victories and the combined 102-63 record. We're just hot right now. I saw him on ESPN last night. That kind of struck me the same way. Like we were lucky to make the playoffs and everything bounced our way. All the other Red Sox showed a lot of class. I guess he wanted to avoid the subject of how he has a pathetic post season record and has been pretty terrible against the Sox.
  8. I had the sound down almost the entire game. I only turned it up when the Sox did something good, like for Konerko's homer. But, I recorded the game and watched the tape last night. I have no problem with the other two guys, but Berman treated the White Sox like an annoyance--some damn team that got in the way of talking wall to wall about Boston and the big story: how the Red Sox always come back from the brink of elimination and have been so wonderful for the last three years. All you have to know about his bias is the call when Konerko squeezes it for the final out: "And the Red Sox..." But, it's over, we won it. We shut up the BoSox backers in Bristol and across New England and we move on. This feels great!
  9. QUOTE(mr_genius @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 02:47 PM) Yea, he hasn't looked very good so far. Hopefully Freddy will settle down a bit after the 2nd or 3rd (like he usually does). he's getting squeezed imo.
  10. Let's just play our game and take care of things today.
  11. QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Oct 7, 2005 -> 08:54 AM) We need to get off to a quick start offensively. Its hard to catch Boston in Fenway. Freddy likes having a 2-3 run cushion to work with. So my keys are: 1. Quick start offensively 2. Freddy keeping the ball down 3. Stay aggresive- steal the bases, move the men over, hit and run exe.... We have nothing to lose. Agreed on all. Think this one's coming down to the bullpens. Last year, Ozzie left Freddy in too long against Bosox and he squandered a late lead with the help of Damaso. Please win today Sox, so I can have a nice, relaxing weekend. Stay aggressive.
  12. Crede's been a little messed up in the field. I think he'll be fine. He had a key hit to keep the rally going last night. Gotta give him credit for that. Leave him in. Ozzie's gonna keep the lineup the same.
  13. Since 1967, the Red Sox have had 6 losing seasons. Six losing seasons in 38 years! In many of those years, they either won or were contending for a division title. In some, they were in the World Series. The 1975 Series is considered one of the best ever. Since 1967, the White Sox have had 19 losing seasons, and in many of those, they were among the worst teams in baseball. Sox fans have had to endure ownership changes, threats of moving out of town, White Flag trades, and lame These Kids Can Play campaigns. We've had our hopes built up in 1967, 1972, 1977, 1983, 1993 and 2000, only to see our team come crashing down the next year, or in 1994, have a strike ruin the season. The White Sox have barely had a sniff at the postseason during the last 38 years. There's another team in Chicago that benefits from a feel-good PR campaign fueled by a media conglomerate that dominates the city. Boston benefits from being the only game in town, the ability to draw from 6 states, and a feel-good PR campaign built around "Friendly Fenway." I've been to Fenway many times, it's not friendly. It's a dump. But the mystique continues to draw fans. I really don't care what Red Sox fans think about us. Call us whatever you want. Let's just wrap up this series so we don't have to hear from these crybabies who really have nothing to whine about.
  14. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) please win friday... that would cap a great week Wow! What a week it would be! What a week it has already been. I haven't done s*** all week at work because of this team.
  15. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:58 PM) Thank you Mark for being the ace that you truly are. He deserves a lot of praise for that effort. No matter what he's done so far or what he does the rest of the way, he battled tonight and kept us in the game.
  16. QUOTE(Balance @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:50 PM) Awesome! Can they do it again in Boston on Friday? Tune in and see! I predict another close one. You know the Red Sox are going to battle until the last out. Can't take anything for granted and have to play tough on Friday. Great job by the boys!
  17. QUOTE(bmags @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:08 PM) with credes bonehead play, he gave up four runs. BUT HE STOPPED THEM EARLY AT 4... he was missing his spots and everything and then settled hard core...it was a great pitching performance for the playoffs, i figured he would give up about 4 and he did, and honestly against this lineup its a damn good performance... now GARCIA, GO KICK SOME ASS Gotta hand it to MB. He battled tonight and came on strong after a rough start. That was one hell of a performance.
  18. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:29 PM) Crede needs to shape up, and quick. He hasn't been very good at all at 3B. What the hell is going on with him in the field? I think he's too worried about keeping that chaw in his mouth and not spilling it on his chin.
  19. QUOTE(Balance @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 08:48 PM) Even my fiancee was talking about the treatment the ESPN booth was giving the Red Sox. After Ramirez lined out to Rowand, the booth was gushing about what a good swing he put on the ball. My fiancee said, "Jeez, want to slurp him a little more, guys?" Sports knowledge and appreciation. Two of the several reasons I'm marrying her! I have had the sound down for most of both games -- the Red Sox gushing has been a little much. Plus, these guys know nothing about the White Sox. I had the sound up a little tonight, but I thought they were going to go on the field and blow Wells, the way they were talking about him. Even Sutcliffe. Piazza has been pretty good, from what I've heard, which hasn't been much.
  20. Great shots! Thanks for posting!
  21. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Oct 5, 2005 -> 02:18 AM) Yup. That's why I'm not about to get too excited. Game 2 is a must. No doubt. And Game 3 and Game 4 and Game 5, if necessary. I hope the Sox are firmly grounded in reality. By all appearances it seems that they are.
  22. Yes! Something I experienced for the first time...cheering at the end of a home playoff game. Let's keep it going Sox!! More work to do.
  23. No Timo? I just finished watching all the videos and slides shows you guys produced. Now, one more rendition of Let's Go Go White Sox and I should be sufficiently pumped up.
  24. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Oct 3, 2005 -> 04:41 PM) Tony G would be a starter on the White Sox, without question. I would have liked the Sox to have picked up Tony instead of Blum, but he wouldn't be a starter.
