  1. QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) 53 games for $400. And yes, I am calling out the fans that specifically said that if the price was lowered they would go to more games. Is it early? Of course. But the excitement should be there. So spending more money makes you a better fan? Talk about absurdity. If you still don't understand why I did what I did last summer, I can't help ya. There are 50+ blog posts to help you understand it. Taking advantage of deals and putting in effort beyond logging into Ticketmaster, isn't grabbing free tickets. And I am pretty sure any member of this board is allowed to make a thread about anything they want. You choose to respond to it or not. 1) Nowhere did I say that spending money makes you a better fan. However, it does help payroll more than spending less money. 2) Yeah, you did it for publicity. Congratulations. 3) Sure you can make a thread about whatever you want. Doesn't mean it makes any sense. You making assumptions out of essentially 3 games is similar to taking the Sox players' performance to date and calling them an all-star, a bust, etc. Sample size anyone?
  2. Outside of the absurdity of judging 3 April games to make this thread, anyone else find it ironic that a guy that attended games for what, a total of $500 last year, is calling out other fans? I'm willing to bet there are people on here that attend 2-3 games per year with their families and spend more money with the Sox than he does. Grabbing free tickets left and right doesn't make you a great fan by itself, or put you in position to make this thread.
  3. In case people missed the post in the basketball forum: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?s=...t&p=2779876
  4. Ridiculous. But the only thing he did wrong was "trust his player." Those could have all been false accusations. Get the f*** out. He did everything he could to protect his star basketball player. There's no way to defend him at this point.
  5. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 07:17 AM) I think in real time, it looked like a charge. Refs obviously don't have instant replay to see that it probably was a block. Michigan still gave them every chance, throwing up bricks from the FT line. You can say the ball doesn't lie and Michigan still held on. See ya Monday NIght! Saw Boeheim getting sassy and short with a few reporters in the post game press conference. Too bad. He's such a douchebag.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 11:52 AM) Did Mcgahee get this much love when his knee was reduced to jello? That was on a bigger stage that the elite eight. I guess I dont get it. I bet he would have rather snapped both legs than have every knee ligament torn out. Social media wasn't around for it
  7. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 08:37 AM) I doubt Alford KNEW anything for sure in this case. He took the side of the player he coached. He went too far. His involvement in the case is being overstated to stroke Bernstein's ego. False accusations of sexual crimes do occasionally occur. http://gma.yahoo.com/blogs/abc-blogs/exone...topstories.html http://today.duke.edu/showcase/lacrosseincident/ Tried to strong arm a victim to protect the basketball program. Knew exactly what he was doing. The fact that false accusations of sexual crimes occurs does nothing. Strangesox explained the coaching101 way to handle it. That's enough involvement in my book, if it's not for you, then fine.
  8. Didn't do much wrong?? Um, he knew he wasn't innocent and even if he believed he was, he wouldn't have tried to shut her up http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/03/31/ber...ired-a-scumbag/ http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/04/03/ber...-lying-at-ucla/
  9. Just make sure to rewind it before you bring it back. We had one of those rewind-only machines.
  10. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Somehow having the record they did in conference play (in the best conference in the league) should have been worth something. Out of conference might have sucked but they won out of conference and then did a good job in a tough conference. They should have sealed the deal by not blowing some of the close games that they did though. It was worth something, they were at least in discussion for the bubble. But not everyone played the same BT schedule (or beat the same opponents), so you can't look at every BT record the same. Didn't have a lot of big wins, even in conference, didn't play anyone out of conference.
  11. Auburn paid players, changed grades etc. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/...ccording-report
  12. ISU guys... Jon Ekey might be coming to Illinois. Scouting report?
  13. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) Not talking about resume. Just watching them now, they are better than teams that got in. I understand why they didnt get in. Yeah, but we knew that during selection sunday. This doesn't change anything, or "showing" they could have been in.
  14. LMAO. Upset with a student newspaper giving out grades. If that effects your players, you need some new players. I can't blame Bernstein for not liking Coach K.
  15. QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) I know its NIT, but Iowa showing they could have been in NCAA over other at large teams. I'm not up on some of the mid major conference tourney champs so can't really name which ones. Wrong. It was never about if they are good enough, it was about their resume.
  16. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 05:54 PM) I know he was joking. Its just one of the few things that really gets under my skin. (Imo) Bo Ryan does good by every one of his players. He never takes away their scholarship, even if they suck and sit on the bench. Every other player who has wanted to transfer has been given a full release. If you knew he was joking, your response made no sense.
  17. QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:27 PM) Pominville to Minnesota, Gaborik to Columbus, Mason to Philadelphia Good move/interesting move/weird move
  18. Why did Viciedo put his glove on the other hand this inning?
  19. Wow, wait until you hear Hawks' HR call on that one. Brutal.
  20. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) In my book it's not so much that he hates Alford. But he feels the need to bring up something that is almost 10 years old just because he got a new job. I dont remember him going out of his way to turn the NM media against Alford. but now that he's in LA, this is Bernstein's time to get him. He almost seemed to think that clearly UCLA didnt do its research in hiring Alford. because, clearly no college team would want to hire such a horrible human being. No one gives a s*** about New Mexico, UCLA, again, is one of, if not the, most prominent programs in the country.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) f***, you're right, I bet Bernstein has covered up a bunch of sexual assaults! edit: you're finding a way to brush aside criticism of Alford and direct it to Bernstein no matter what's brought up. either he cares too much, or not enough, or he's not doing anything, or he's not doing enough with other issues, or he's making money or he's alienating his fanbase, or, scrapping all that, he's probably the real moral monster here! Heads you win, tails Bernstein has a bigger scandal than PSU and the RCC combined. I'll add more - this is all just a cover up http://www.onestepcamp.org/about/board-of-directors/
  22. I don't know how we are going to make any 3 pointers next year. That's a huge issue.
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) Why did he stop? ESPN hired Lewis. ESPN radio is a direct competitor to Bernstein. He should go on and on about it everyday. Because it's not as topical anymore. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 10:37 AM) He was stuck on PSU for about a year, he's covered Stuebenville, he's discussed the crap at ND, and now he's discussing Alford because he's in the news. Yeah, it's an excuse for him to break out his hobby-horse, but that doesn't mean it's illegitimate. He's not running some esoteric show on NPR that's going to invite on a bunch of sociologists to discuss the issue, so he's going to use the current hot topic to rant about. Like agreed earlier, it seems like he has something personal with Alford, but this fits a common theme. Good summary. He's covered a lot of areas. It's not just against Alford. This too will pass, Alford apologists.
  24. QUOTE (Boogua @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 10:28 AM) It's way too early to predict how next years team is going to do. Last year at this time it looked like Meyers was leaving, mclaurin wasn't in the fold yet, there was really no point guard, and the team won 16 games the previous season. We don't know what 5th year transfer might come in, we don't know how rice is going to play (he could be the best player), we don't know how players will continue to develop, and we don't know if the freshmen can contribute. I think the illini actually have a decent shot at the tournament. Well that's just it - there's a ton of "we don't know," I think much much more than last year. At the start of last season, you knew exactly what you had, and 4 seniors contributing, 3 from the year before. You are still sitting here right now with 1 senior and losing 4 of 7 contributors, with a bunch of freshman replacing them. It's easy to predict/expect a step down. If he somehow turns this mess into a tournament appearance, he should be in consideration for BT coach of the year.
  25. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 10:31 AM) I guess you two can reject the entire idea of awareness of an issue being important, have fun! I'll forever think of them when I see someone wearing pink for breast cancer AWARENESS et al.
