  1. HS changed the rules this year on BESR bats (old standard), making a lot of the composites illegal. Next year HS bats all have to adhere to the new BBCOR standard in college right now.
  2. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 31, 2011 -> 12:19 AM) Zach or MaggsMaggs, one of you guys who run marathons, got any tips on a good plan for training? I'm going to be running one in August, so I'd like to get at least some decent training in. Less drinking, more running.
  3. QUOTE (The Critic @ Jun 1, 2011 -> 09:30 AM) They'll get the 13,000 this year, if it takes True North "sponsoring" employees, clients, etc. to get to that level. It's later on, when the novelty wears off, that the actual amount of "season reservations" would be evident. +1 for using that term.
  4. Person A, this isn't close.
  5. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2011 -> 03:10 PM) Si knew about what things happening? They have 8 compliance peoplle supervising 1100 student athletes. If they did know about it, then they will be cited for lack of institutional control and will be hit with severe sanctions. We will both find that out in August. As of right now you are just guessing, as is everyone else. 8 people are pretty much monitoring the football team 1st 2nd and 3rd and the basketball team 4th, no one really gives a s*** about the other sports, nor are they as big a worry with compliance. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2011 -> 08:15 PM) SI article is out, the things I have heard arent even in it. They are alleging more players traded things for tats, even though the items they traded werent recovered with the tons of stuff that was. The total number is 28 players over 10 years that they are alleging. Out with it already. If you have something, say it, or quit mentioning it. **************** I can't wait for Tressel's next book on how to win at life.
  6. Illinois in a regional hosted by some team I've never even heard of, Fullerton or some s***....
  7. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 30, 2011 -> 09:17 AM) Good edit. You hate OSU because you are a Big Ten fan, SEC fans probably wouldnt put the Buckeyes in their top 3 most hated teams and that goes for most every conference. It's a very attractive job, they'll land someone that will probably rub you the wrong way as well. Urban Meyer is a a complete dbag, that's what makes up most of it. I don't know what your opinion was of him before all this happened, but I'm sure you'd think he's the greatest guy ever if he goes to OSU.
  8. It still happened on the morning of a holiday, that's a fact. Hey, at least they made sure to get that Suger Bowl win first! If OSU lands Urban Meyer for 2012 I don't know if there will be a more hateable program in all of sports.
  9. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ May 28, 2011 -> 07:12 PM) Illinois is currently destroying MSU in the Big 10 title game. Nice showing by the Illini, Big Ten season and tourney champs.
  10. Not sure why all the Boston hate and putting them on Vancouver's level. I know we hate the Red Sox and their fans, but this is hockey...there's no "Bruins nation" BS...not a lot of irritating players at all...original 6 team as well...much easier pick than Vancouver.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 28, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) Why exactly? That story wasnt bad at all. Its already been reported that the compliance dept reviewed every vehicle purchase made by the players, as they have to register them with the NCAA. I think thats stated pretty clearly in this story. It also states several times that there was no NCAA violation in the car sales. Ray Small came out today and refuted the report from before saying that he was misquoted. Misquoted, hahahahahahaha, right...
  12. I don't give a s*** about ratings for this, or really when it comes to anything. As long as I can watch the games, that's all that matters. This has the potential to be a good series, hopefully it turns out that way. I also should have went to Vegas, as this was the Finals series I predicted. Ah well.
  13. I didn't think I needed green for my post, but apparently I do...
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 25, 2011 -> 01:39 PM) Me too. Team of goons and douchebags. I'm sure you want all of them to be like Jonathan Toews, perfect men.
  15. In the "wait, what the f*** just happened?" power rankings, Bieksa just scored a higher score than Patrick Kane to send the Canucks to the finals with a double OT win. I won't even describe it, you just have to watch it.
  16. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ May 21, 2011 -> 07:18 PM) I have no problem with someone disagreeing with ozzie, but it is almost a joke to think your calls would change the fortune of the White Sox. For one, your "should have" never happened, so it's difficult to prove. And two, no one has as much transparency to players' abilities and statistical history as Ozzie. And I'm still giving him the credibility argument on past performance, although I do think time is running out on that. My last point is that people act like idiots quite a bit, and will decide after the fact that they would have done something different (we've all seen it). That being said, most Soxtalk members are very educated about the game. This is wrong though. Baseball numbers essentially don't lie, especially with all the advanced metrics out there. And everyone has access to all of it.
  17. So fans should never question any manager, since they aren't a manager and don't know as much as they do. Yet, managers get fired all the time for essentially not being good at their job. Odd. There have been numerous times people on here (or at games) have been right when Ozzie has been wrong, end of story. Ozzie may be a good "manager" to some, but one of his strengths is clearly not x's and o's, for lack of a better term. What's great about today's game is that a lot of people know a lot about baseball, regardless of if they played the game at the MLB level. Plus, all the stats are at everyone's fingertips - every stat you can think of. The only thing people don't have is the "inside the game" facts - maybe who's tired in the pen that day (though you can usually figure that out), etc. So you can make calls just like they can.
  18. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 19, 2011 -> 03:35 PM) So I'm the best man at my brothers wedding next weekend and I need to make a speech obviously. I've only been to two weddings as an adult so I don't really have a lot of wedding experience to go on here. Any suggestions for what makes a good/bad speech? How long should it be? Stuff that should be off-limits? Etc...I want it to be kind of funny or amusing and not to bore people but I want to make sure I'm appropriate. I've been kind of stressing about this because I'm just not exactly sure what to say at the moment. Anyone with any advice would be much appreciated. Don't talk about throwing up at any point (heard this one a couple weeks ago by a MOH while salad was on the tables, most awkward thing ever). Don't reference how drunk he was at the bachelor party, or anything like that. Don't make it a roast - maybe a joke or two, but nothing about old girlfriends or anything, and try to avoid inside jokes only a few people will get. Tell everyone what your brother means to you and how he's impacted your life, some of your best memories with/about him (maybe one is funny but appropriate) etc. And pay some compliments to the bride towards the end. Keep it to like 4 mins or so. And whatever you do have a good closing line/thought.
  19. Hawks signed Corey Crawford to a 3 year deal. Money not known yet.
  20. QUOTE (RockRaines @ May 19, 2011 -> 01:51 PM) Front Page news on ESPN, OSU's AD supports Tressel. Buried way into the NCAA page, 4 Auburn players indicted for their roles in armed robbery. Not on the front page on the right side story headlines. Both in NCAAFB, Auburn story 2 notches below it.
  21. If you are interviewing for the first time on Thursday, do you think they have other interviews possibly lined up for next week? Or would bring you in for another one, perhaps? It would be good for you, but tough to predict, that they would give you an offer tomorrow or Friday after a Thursday interview I would think. Maybe that could help buy you some time, or at least get further with the other company.
  22. QUOTE (Art Vandelay @ May 17, 2011 -> 09:16 PM) Ok people, here's my scenario... I had a phone screen interview with Company A on Monday that I thought went very well. The recruiter and I really hit it off, and she is going to get back to me later this week after discussing me to the local hiring manager to let me know if they want me to come in for an in-person interview next week. Here's my problem. I have an in-person interview on Thursday this week with Company B. And I think based on a conversation that I already had with the hiring manager and HR that there is a good chance I will be getting a job offer. I would really like to interview with the Company A too though, but I don't yet know if that will even happen. If it does, it could mean more money and possibly a better position than Company B. What do you do in this situation? Is there really some way I could get Company B to give me time to think it over while I go and interview with Company A? Mind you, I have been out of work since April last year, so I really don't need to be turning down job offers right now but of course, I want to give myself the best opportunity. I also don't think it would be very wise to tell Company B that I also have an interview planned with Company A. Thoughts? My fiancee had a similar situation a couple years ago. She had completed her 3rd interview with Company A. She had had 2 interviews with Company B. On a Thursday, Company A offered her a job. But, she really wanted to work for Company B if they were going to offer. Once she had the offer from Company A, she called Company B and told them that she has an offer from Company A and said that she had to let Company A know by Monday. She also told Company B that she completely understands if they are not ready to make a decision yet, but she just wanted them to be aware of the situation. She wasn't pushy about anything, but she was up front and honest with them, told them she would still love to pursue an opportunity with them if they were willing, etc. Monday came and she had to let Company A know something, and really, she wasn't going to turn down Company A if she didn't know one way or the other from Company B. Well Company B called her and offered her a job. She never told Company A that she was interviewing with another company, but had no problem telling Company B the situation. I think she played it about as well as she could. Granted it worked out well, but going in, the actions seemed to make the most sense and didn't hurt anyone's feelings or come off in bad way to either company.
