  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) How did this come about? Her parents are divorced and the Dad remarried. So you've got 3 extended families/family friends instead of 2 extended families/family friends. Spots get eaten up quickly by people who are essentially "must have" invites.
  2. QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:28 PM) I mentioned that I interviewed with the St. Louis Rams for a marketing internship over the phone, and they said they would get back to me Friday. I got a call back yesterday from the woman that interviewed me and she offered me the position. I have till Friday to accept the unpaid internship. Personally, I think it is great experience to be able to go and get experience, especially in this economy. I don't have much else in terms of work experience so this will be fitting. My concern is mostly financially based and that I would have trouble finding housing down in St. Louis. My family supports me over this although I have heard people say I shouldn't do it since it is far away and doing something without pay or college credit (since I am graduating) might be difficult. Doors in sports are few and far between. Do you have any idea what the % chance is that if you are an excellent employee, it could turn into a full time gig at some point? It is a term internship? What hours would you work? Any way you could do something part time to have some money? How much would your parents help? Do you know anyone that may know anyone in St. Louis you could kind of live with for cheap? Maybe even another employee? That's been done before. Finances may make this impossible for you, but if it's not impossible, don't close the door on it.
  3. Just was coming here to post about Alcatraz. Looks like it could be solid.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:14 PM) yeah we did the same thing afterwards when we got to thinking about why a particular group or person was so "important" after all. Because of what they did/didn't get you? Because of their behavior at the event? Both? Something else?
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 18, 2011 -> 02:08 PM) We did the same things on plus 1's and personally I think it is perfectly appropriate. Unless the person was in our wedding party, they weren't going to be allowed to bring some random acquaintance that we'd never see again. Now if you are dating someone seriously and/or are married, than thats fine and we included a plus 1 on there invite. But there was no way, I was going to see the list of people I wanted to have at the wedding drop because we had to factor in a bunch of random people our single friends brought as plus ones'. Plus, regardless, a wedding is going to have a lot of single people and plenty of conversing anyway so if you are single and looking to mingle that opportunity is going to be there, haha. I'm also saying this as someone who went to plenty of guy's friends weddings in college as a single without a date. I wasn't offended - I wasn't with anyone. Plus, I knew other people there. If you don't know anyone (somehow), maybe you try to work one in for them, but yeah, essentially cutting people you know for people you don't know doesn't really make sense. I don't care if it's not "proper," it's what's practical. Plus, you're footing the bill. Also Jason did you have anyone reply to you and put a plus one on there even though you didn't give them one? Like they assumed it? If so how did you deal with it?
  6. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 18, 2011 -> 01:29 PM) And more likely than not, after the wedding they'll say to each other "Why did we invite ____? We should have invited Ron instead." I know I had those thoughts about certain people at our wedding. Some of our "friends" didn't even get us a card. f***ing lame. /examines list further.
  7. It's a tough call without knowing all the circumstances. Like was said, you could have been up against Mom's neighborhood friend or something. I know some people break it down by guests invited per person - like 50 per group or whatever, so you were #51 on a 50 person cut off. In your situation I lean towards you being right, an acquaintance, but who knows. Guest lists are tough (I'm going through it now). Even tougher when you have a limited # of spots and 3 families to work with instead of 2. That changes everything significantly. Almost no friends get a plus one unless they are married or they are a true SIGNIFICANT other and we know them. That's just the reality of our situation, but who knows if people will realize that. My attitude - if you are really offended by that and don't want to come because of it, then that's fine, you don't have to. For every "random" plus one we threw in there, we'd have to cut one of our friends or family members. Call me crazy, I'd rather have more people there we know and love than essentially random strangers.
  8. Man, Boston was thisclose to blowing that lead. TB had so many chances. They would have been in a huge hole. Seguin showing why he was #2 overall.
  9. Well yes and no, there wasn't really any official word on if/when he was going to retire, or if he desired to stay on as AD, or even in some other role. The one thing that was for sure was that his current contract was expiring.
  10. They had the "first shot" at it in theory...but Glendale money approval just saved them, at least for one season. As soon as that happened, all eyes turned to Atlanta.
  11. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 16, 2011 -> 12:23 PM) Thrasher's ownership is in negotiations to sell the team and move it to Winnepeg. The rumor had been Winnepeg, but now it's been officially reported. It's happening for sure...there was discussion a couple pages back

    QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 15, 2011 -> 03:01 PM) I woke up in a police station. ...?
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 15, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) I was mocking you and your "stick up the ass" attitude about anything that's not behavior of a model citizen. Of course I would defend it if Kaner did it, as well as any other young person having fun and entertaining. You'll have great kids.
  14. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ May 15, 2011 -> 10:21 AM) Sounds like something that asshole Patrick Kane would do. This guy needs to act like a perfect gentleman, like Toews and all the other guys in their early 20's. Good one, bro. Though if Kane did it, you'd defend him.
  15. Running on the field is beyond stupid, and if you are entertained and cheer people doing that, you're right there with them.
  16. Tex you are right, it's about instant gratification, now now now now society. The majority of people here are fine with CC's, I get that. But I'd say the majority of Americans are not. A CC has taken away many people's notion of "I can/will buy what I can afford" because they don't have to try to save for anything. This is true for smaller purchases and larger ones - people buy more expensive homes and cars than they should just because they think they can afford it, because when they run their finances, they don't really consider their thousands in CC debt, just how their minimum payment works into their monthly budget. I understand some people have claimed bankruptcy because of emergencies, but CC debt is right at the heart of the matter for most.
  17. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 12, 2011 -> 10:03 PM) So I have both a Wade jersey(which I bought probably in 04) and a LeBron jersey(it's my step brothers but I wore it on halloween this year to make fun of that asshole) hanging in my closest right now, these are being taken to the city and being burned on Saturday night. Just thought I'd let you guys know. Oh geez...don't be that guy.
  18. That was one hell of a hockey game. However, someone tell Penis Pierre that SJ did not win the Cup with that win. They did not "slay the dragon" or "quiet the doubters." Until they actually win something, this SJ group is still known as the big chokers. This win just prevented them from becoming the biggest chokers of all time. I hope they can get by Van. Should be another great series.
  19. You might see Detroit move to the East and Minnesota move to the central, or something along those lines.
  20. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 12, 2011 -> 11:39 AM) Are you commenting or did you see this somewhere? Nothing official on twitter or tsn.ca I am not commenting...I have extremely reliable sources directly involved in this.
  21. Atlanta is relocating to Winnipeg, it's official.
  22. QUOTE (Iwritecode @ May 12, 2011 -> 11:13 AM) Our credit cards probably saved us from bankruptcy a few years back when my wife was unemployed for 9 months. We were literally living off of them. We racked up a huge amount of debt which we are currently paying off. Ironically we got a personal loan from Discover to do it. That's one of the best reasons to use one, that's truly an emergency. Did they keep raising your interest rate?
