  1. Some crazy woman has been calling into a Las Vegas radio station claiming that all of the events going on in the world right now, the war, the tornadoes(though they are not to crazy), SARS and all that crap is being caused by a massive meteor heading in the direction of Earth. The climax of this meteors voyage will come on May 15th, when it passes between the sun and the earth with a massive magnetic pull. This pull will change the direction the Earth spins on its axis. The lady is obviously crazy because an impending meteor would not cause world turmoil, unless the world's population knew that it was coming, and even then it wouldn't cause tornadoes and diseases, just a s*** load of looting. Does anybody actually know what would happen if the earth began spinning the other way? My guess is we would all get very nautios, I am not sure what affect the earth's revolutions has upon gravity. If the earths revolution speed creates gravity, which I think it may, then we would all be screwed.
  2. I am not sure if anybody has mentioned this yet, but there is a segment of "Money Ball" the book about Billy Beane in this weeks Sports Illustrated. Just by reading that segment it is easy to tell that Billy Beane is a genius. A theme in that book is breaking away from the old game of listening to the scouts and basing personel movements on raw talent. When the A's director of scouting drafted a high school pitcher with a 95 mph fastball in the first round of the 2001 draft Beane threw a chair through a wall. Later that scouting director was fired, because Beane hates drafting guys out of highschool. Look at the guys he has drafted and put in that rotation, and you can tell that Beane is the best GM out there. Williams is just a piss poor GM in comparison.
  3. Until Konerko starts getting his bat around on right-handed pitchers this year...he is a nothing in the lineup. I like the guy and what he's done the last few seasons, but he just isn't doing it so far this year. My solution to this season, acquire Dave Roberts from LA. Fast Lefthanded Centerfielder, he is hitting above .300 he is stealing bases, getting on base. It wouldn't be to hard to grab him from LA either. We would probably have to take Paul Shuey with Roberts though, to help LA shed some Payroll. So maybe: Rowand, Glover, Miles for Roberts and Shuey. The only thing is, LA won't make this deal until they slip from contention, right now they are 19-17 so they probably wouldn't make the deal.

    Witesoxfan

I am backing Witesoxfan on this one, Jimenez has been dogging it lately, adding Graf stirred things up a little.
  5. What the hell, I am so pissed. Michigan forfeited every single victory from the fab five era and banned themselves for a year. The f***in NCAA is a bunch of egotistical jerk off that just feel like flexing their muscles to show they actually have some power...damn this pisses me off. Well at least the football team has been scandal free...which is more important than basketball. My dad finally got accepted for season tix this season, after trying for 20 years. It is a long drive to make from NJ to Ann Arbor though, not sure if he will accept them. The drive is even longer after a loss. Driving home after the Ohio St. game in 2001 was hell
  6. I was thinking that too, so I changed it to AL MVP award to be safe
  7. lol, thats funny, I guess I didn't check that, not to mention there were a few typos from my revision
  8. I revised your essay, they always say the more revisions the better “The Big Hurt” Frank Thomas Frank Thomas has changed the face of Chicago White Sox baseball. He is the White Sox franchise player, which is quite an accomplishment considering that the organization was founded in 1901. He is the White Sox all time leader in homeruns, RBI’s, extra-base hits, slugging avg., and on base percentage. He has also one two MVP awards. (whitesox.com) Not to mention that Frank has also done many things in the Chicago community. Frank Edward Thomas was born May 27, 1968 in Columbus, Georgia. He has 3 children, Sterling, Sloan, and Sydney. He went to college at Auburn where he is the home run record holder with 49. He even played football At Auburn as a tight end, and caught 3 passes for a nice total of 45 yards. Thomas's fame earned him an appearance in the Tom Sellek film, “Mr. Baseball”, and a cameo appearance in an episode of “Married with Children”. (whitesox.com) The Big Hurt was one of the most feared hitters of the 90’s. During that decade, Frank became the only player in MLB history to have six consecutive seasons of .300+ batting avg., 20+ homeruns, 100+ RBI’s, 100+ runs scored, and drawing 100+ walks. As of now, Thomas is the active career leader in on base percentage. In 1993 and 1994, Frank won the American League MVP award. No player since has won back to back AL MVP awards. In 1993 Thomas lead the White Sox to a Western Division title, as well as central division titles in 1994 and again in 2000.(whitesox.com) Frank has made accomplishments off the field as well. In 2000 he filmed a public service announcement regarding gun safety among youths. That year, he also had a 12- year old boy join him at a game at Comiskey Park as part of the Make-a-Wish-Foundation. In 1993, he established the Frank Thomas Charitable Foundation, designed to improve the lives of Chicago area residents. He donates $50,000 every year to the Leukemia Society of America in memory of his younger sister who died when Frank was 10. (whitesox.com) Frank Thomas has had a fine career, which I believe will make him a first ballot hall of famer. Thomas has not only changed the lives of people in the game of baseball, but he has helped better the lives of the citizen’s of Chicago.
  9. Holy s***... You bicker like you are in kindergarden...just have a knife fight now, or drop your pointless arguing. And Bmr...don't flatter yourself, I am sure Brandofan does not stalk you
  10. I have seen insomnia. I enjoyed it, I have seen better, and I was expecting it to be scary. It was still pretty good...Robin Williams plays a good creep. Al Pacino is always a good actor. I would recommend it. I have not seen 1 hour photo, but I would like to.

    John Stockton

John Stockton says that he is going to move on. He was a great player, he has been the Jazz point gaurd my entire life, he is one of the last players from basketball's golden age in my opinion. Now Malone, and Pippen are pretty much the only two stars left from the late 80s-early 90's period. Wish Stockton the best in whatever he decides to move on to.
  12. I definately say Manuel must go, Contrary to what CWSOX loves to say, Manuel is a crappy manager. he had one good year...The question of a replacement is tough. 1) Bobby Valentine, survived over here in New York for 7 seasons...that alone is a fricken miracle. Met fans are actually harder on managers than Sox fans, plus there are millions of Met fans...very tough on a manager. The problem with Bobby Valentine is his teams started poorly...often. And in both 1998 and especially 2001 the Mets played terrible baseball in late August-September...both times it cost them a playoff spot. If you are looking for a fiery manager...Valentine is not the guy, he doesn't yell at the players, but he does talk crap about them too the media. Met clubhouses were always divided, mostly because of Bobby V. I agree with WiteSoxfan said, Bobby V. did not always have the best players. The main thing I like about Valentine was his handling of the pitching staff, until last season he could take a weak bunch a long way. If it weren't for Armando Benitez and Met's GM Steve Phillips, Bobby V. would still have his job...but both f***ed up, and Bobby V. paid for their mistakes. 2) Wally Backman would be the guy the Sox would hire probably. Just because he is a more low profile guy, within the orginization, just seems like a White Sox manager. I think at a time like this though it would be smarter to bring in somebody that has managed a big league ballclub. Manuel was the right choice in for the times when he was hired for the 98 season. Backman would be the right guy if we were rebuilding, but we are at a point now where we have a chance to get to the playoffs. This is the best time since the early 90's to make it because the division is weak. It could be now or never (or at least for a while). I wish Tom Kelly was still interested in managing, he would be the best choice
  13. Unless the information guy is on the wanted list, he should move to the U.S. I don't think anybody here hates the guy, most of us I am sure find his propoganda humerous. He could do commercials in the United States, I am sure all the major late night shows would have him on...I can see the big question already..."What the hell were you talking about". He would probably be asked to host SNL too. Who knows, one day he could even have his own TV show...most likely it would be like the Arsenio Hall show, popular for a little while, then it will burn out.
  14. I watched that show when I was younger...If I remember correctly it had a cool theme song, but I don't remember how it goes now
  15. My favirote SportsCenter commercials not previously mentioned are... The one where Kenny Mayne messes up and the show's producer walks to the desk and asks for the microphone and Kenny Mayne throughs it down and he knocks some stuff over while leaving, and then Trevor Hoffman comes in to close the episode. And I love the one where they put in natural grass at ESPN's office...I love it when Rich Eisen is walking on the carpet and he blows out his ACL. Then after the grass is in the sprinklers go off. As far as the Score vs. the ESPN...The Score is much better. I hate ESPN radio because it is national and is taking listeners from local sports talk stations.
  16. Speaking of the Chicago Tribune, over here in the NY area all New York Times readers got to read an interesting apologetic column adressed to the readers from the New York Times. The column was apologizing for a certain New York Times writer plagerizing off of the Trib. These New Yorkers just can't match Chicago writing so they have to steel it ...if you are going to plagerize, you shouldn't get caught.
  17. My Grandma lives in Daytona Beach so I go to a couple of Daytona Cub games every year...they never did crazy promotions like this in the past...but then again they have a new owner. It is a beautiful little stadium, if any of you happened to be wandering around Daytona Beach I recomend you go.
  18. I was wondering how to navigate to other team pages using the insiders...When I used the toolbars to get to the New Jersey Nets it took me to the forums rather than to an actual Soxnet type page. Do you know if other teams have pages? Or is soxnet.net unique in that aspect

    Haynes

The New York Times is claiming that this is the make or break year for Henson. If he sucks this year the Yankees plan on telling him to go back to football so they can erase his 17 million off the payroll. A team would be wise to draft him this year so that they own his rights because he really does suck at baseball...he can't hit, and he can't play defense. Other than that he is a pretty good ballplayer
  20. Thats the problem...because people want to see the profits, then corruption will begin.
  21. 1549

    Haynes

Actually drafting Drew Henson in a later round I think would be a good choice

    Haynes

I like drafting DE....get Simms next
  23. If he is not, pretend he is for an adrenaline rush...with enough adrenaline PeeWeeHerman could take down Mike Tyson
  24. I cant really argue these points except to say that we are in a recession, but without statistics from 1999, I can't prove if that is the cause to some of your problems. As for NAFTA, I was reading the Preamble of the NAFTA secretariat. Nothing in it said that unions should be discarded or that s***...I recommend that you take a glance at it. privatizing electricity does enhance competition, the minute you have multiple companies ultimately performing the same task. Enron is a bad example, because corruption can occur in any system, and in any corporation, the problems in California would have made a better example for you arguement. As for the plant you are talking about...I am not sure what it is. We cant eat trees, and there still are trees, so you have to throw me a bone. South America and Africa should choose their own governments, let them be socialist...we should concentrate on keeping out evil dictators...their big boys they can make decisions. If their temp. why do they need a union...there not going to keep their jobs anyway, and its not like there being put to work on slave ships or something, there work isn't so bad as they need to sue for better conditions, I believe many even get employed in desk jobs. the workers there can form unions if they need to...they can't be chicken s*** of some guy that says "I'll f*** you up"...especially when he can't do that if they get unionized. I worked as a custodian last summer, and i hated the fricken custodian union, because they took money out of my paycheck and they didn't do jack s***...they didn't even come talk to us. what country country doesn't have bad jobs and good jobs? I already adressed the NAFTA and temp jobs. Unions are overrated...unless you don't get benefits from your job
  25. This is the Summer of Magglio, I can feel it.
