  1. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 23, 2006 -> 08:31 PM) I said this earlier, but if he's back within 10 days, I'll be thrilled. well I wasn't around earlier in the thread so thanks, but even 10 days I don't feel devastated a. I think our offense takes a better approach when Thome isn't in the game b. I didn't feel that Thome was healthy enough to play in the first place
  2. does anyone know the extent of thome's injury I don't mind him getting a couple days off at all since I think he needs it, but I hope nothing serious
  3. for divisional purposes this is a must win game
  4. QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 10:05 PM) Are we still in the race? Yes Can we still make it to the playoffs? Yes Do I think we will make it to the playoffs? No The smart money is not on the White Sox this season. jeez your more pessimistic than milky
  5. I believe until we're out still hard to be optimistic though
  6. atleast theres not much to dwell on when everything goes wrong nothing more to do than hope we snap out of it and win tomorrow
  7. if its dylan its gotta be good anyways
  8. hope they win I kind of thought we would split the series by winning game 1 and 4, so now its time for mark to step it up
  9. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 22, 2006 -> 12:03 AM) I think people are worried that we'll continue to play .500 ball the rest of the way (like we've been doing since the ASB), and the Twins will continue to play at such a high rate. I kind of see that, but without Liriano they lost half of the reason that they got so hot, and now there left to one incredible pitcher and a surging offense to carry them which is pretty much what we have anyways(if you combine some guys they probably equal santana eventually), so outside of head-to-head matchups I don't think its time to panic
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 11:54 PM) I went back and read every post, and in this three page thread, there was only one comment that said the division is over. There was not a single post that said this team has no chance to make the playoffs. sorry I posted this after reading through the plea for sox fans thread, and figured that this thread was more or less the same QUOTE(SoxHawk1980 @ Aug 21, 2006 -> 11:56 PM) This team doesn't need to "suddenly collapse" to not make the playoffs. Basically, we are in a two-game WC race with the Twins. The Tigers are too far ahead for THIS White Sox team to catch them. If the Sox continue this inconsistent, lackluster play and continue to win at the rate they've been on since the ASB, then the Twins will very shortly overtake us and accelerate far away from us. They've been playing very well for quite a while. To get to the playoffs, you have to play well and play better than the other contenders. We've been outplayed by the Twins for nearly two months. THAT is why this doesn't look like it's going to be a playoff team. my point was that if inconsistency has given us a lead, why will inconsistency suddenly blow it?
  11. well Rowand didn't really come out to talk to fans pre-game so I didn't get to talk to him or anything, but atleast he received a mostly friendly reception from fans during the game and got cheered after the collision
  12. honestly this is ridiculous yes they sucked tonight, yes they haven't been playing well, yes there are plenty of problems that are not fixed right now but this board is acting like its the apocalypse, when its not. The team has shown that it will not be consistent, but if inconsistency has brought us to where we are now, why should we have any reason to believe we will suddenly collapse and fall out of contention just because we aren't playing better than we did recently?
  13. I think the problem is that really emotional and passionate fans get upset when the team loses, maybe like ron santo equivalents of whitesox fans, and even though we won they still get upset when they lose afterwards so even though they all appreciate the world series, its just part of their character to be emotional and upset when something goes wrong down the road
  14. I agree with you, but its easier said then done
  15. anyone gonna try and meet him at any of the games I'm going tomorrow and my seats are reasonably close to the visitors dugout, but I don't know what to expect really, or if I'll have the courage to come up to him if he pops out
  16. no ones that upset because santana always beats us anyways so there isn't much to dwell on just go into detroit and play well
  17. when I saw the thread title I thought Milkman made it anyways as long as we stay even with the Tigers and then beat them head to head I think we are ok yes the pitching sucks, but did anyone honestly expect to win today anyways with Johan pitching?
  18. I don't care how it gets done, but a win would be really great here
  19. they are mortal too I'm pissed the sox can't take advantage of the tigers weakness because their lead should be down to atleast 4.5 right now
  20. wow what a dumb thing to say I hope ozzie or kenny reprimands him for that he f***ing sucked, it's his fault without or offense he'd be 0-20 this year so he can't make any f***ing excuses about it
  21. the move reminds me from the simpsons Mr. Burns: Strawberry, you've had a great game, now hit the showers Strawberry: But coach I've hit nine home runs today Mr. Burns: It's called playing the percentages, the pitcher is a lefty, so you put up a right handed batter I know the situation is reversed but you get the idea
  22. from my view it looked like the ball was just 3-4 rows off of the concourse how can it only be 435 feet? I just checked the replay to confirm what I said, so how is it only 435 to a concourse in left, while it was 504 feet when joe borchard hit it a couple rows father?
