  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 29, 2008 -> 08:21 PM) Oh for f***'s sake, the team is winning and Cabrera is playing well and you're b****ing about it because Cabrera didn't want an error charged to him? Maybe when you see Uribe come back up and hit .220 the rest of the way you'll remember why you think he's a terrible baseball player. It's funny...whenever you have an angry post, I picture the baby in your avatar saying it because of the look.
  2. QUOTE (klaus kinski @ May 29, 2008 -> 12:01 PM) Getting Uribe work at short is good insurance for when OC gets launched I think that is Alexei's job if OC gets launched (likely after the season). No reason to do it now as even with the issues, we are winning and he is starting to hit. Uribe may be launched sooner.
  3. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ May 22, 2008 -> 02:49 PM) Figgins can play everywhere. So you're saying Figgins for Ozuna?!?
  4. Brady Anderson should be on the team and start in CF in place of Sosa. The team has enough sluggers and we need a legit lead off man that will give you 30+ stolen bases and one 50 hr season (and then 40 or so homers total for the rest of his years playing).
  5. QUOTE (WCSox @ May 22, 2008 -> 12:48 PM) They MIGHT deal Figgins for Fields. Outside of that, I don't see any of our minor-leaguers attracting their interest. Hell, the Angels could legitimately ask for Floyd, Danks, or Quentin in the deal. I think Reagins would get to Flo-, Da-, or Q- respectively before he hears a click from KW's side.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 20, 2008 -> 07:56 PM) Unfortunately, a bench of Alexei, Danny, Anderson, and Hall might look better with the bats, it also leaves us without any reasonable backup at 3rd base, since Lexi and Danny are both SS/2b players. Maybe Lexi could play 3rd some, no idea, but Danny hasn't played it at all as far as I know. Sticking Uribe at 3rd winds up being your only play when Crede's back acts up. If Danny comes back and performs well in his rehab stint, then I think he ought to be called up and you ought to treat it as a Uribe/Richar platoon with Alexei getting more AB's down at Charlotte. That works a fair amount better because it gives us another lefty bat against righties and makes our bench go from 4 righties to a 3 and 1 mix on an average day. If it acts up, you put him on the DL and bring up Fields. I know Fields is on the DL but he should hopefully be ready to go and Uribe can man the position until then.
  7. QUOTE (BurlyMan56 @ May 22, 2008 -> 12:56 AM) To get Roberts, Broadway is out of town maybe even Egbert plus others including Richar. To get Figgins, I would assume they would rather have a good minor league position player that we don't have to give. The pitching in Anaheim will be solid for the next 5 years. If that's all it took, I would do it in a heartbeat. Richar may have promise and Broadway could be a solid 4-5 starter in the MLB and Egbert could be a decent long man out of the bullpen/5th starter but we get an all-star 2B and legit lead off hitter to anchor this team. Having Swisher/Cabrera bat 8-9 and Roberts/AJ batting 1-2, gives us a Junior Varsity and Varsity tandem of top of the order type hitters for Carlos et al.
  8. QUOTE (RME JICO @ May 19, 2008 -> 12:41 PM) How about taking a look at the recent trades now as well thru 1/4 of the season: Quentin - (A++++) Has probably exceeded everyones expectations, but his own. Cabrera - (D+) Garland is not pitching that good and would've blocked either Floyd or Danks. So that part of the trade was good. OCab has shown flashes, but he really needs to pick it up for this trade to be at least a wash. Hopefully we still get 2 picks. Swisher - (D-) Sweeney almost has comparable numbers and would not have costed the Sox DLS and Gio. Hopefully Swish comes around and makes this trade a success. At least the clubhouse is loose with him around. That was definitely missing in 2007. Richar - (Incomplete) I think Swisher and OCab will come around and the trades were more than appropriate at the time. OCab seems to be getting it going now and a 1 yr SS that could play every day and bat 2nd/lead off was much more useful to us than a #3 SP (especially considering the seasons Contreras, Danks and Floyd are having with Broadway potentially waiting in the wings if there is an injury). Swisher brings an intangible and has shown he can hit in the past and he's locked up for 5 more years at a reasonable deal. Give these two guys at least 1/2 a season to adjust (I know OCab may only be around for a year) and they will pay dividends during a playoff run and the playoffs, moreso in my opinion than Garland and Sweeney et al.
  9. QUOTE (lostfan @ May 19, 2008 -> 11:47 AM) How's JD's lack of RBI his fault? Look who hits in front of him... 2 guys you gave an F, one you gave a D. They've all sucked. When people aren't on base you can't get RBI. Even if you have a .293 average. And the 2 guys he gave Fs to have 23 RBIs a piece so maybe they shouldn't be Fs after all...by his reasoning. Dye is a B/B- in my opinion because his offense has been fine and his defense is getting better, not enough to instill full confidence but he seems to be getting a glove on the ball now and still has a great arm. Now, if he can just catch the ball consistently and flash a little more speed in his routes to the ball, then he would be an A.
  10. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:55 PM) I hope you're wrong on that one Yas. Or hopefully Kenny fired the person/people who thought Anderson was more ready than Young. Hindsight is great. Not many of us would have thought that Young was "more" ready than Anderson heading into the 2006 season. We got a taste of Anderson in 2005 hitting 2 bombs off King Felix and his always stellar CF so there was no reason to think otherwise. KW even said after the trade that this one (Chris Young) was the first guy he gave up that he truly felt was going to come back to haunt him but it was the right deal in his mind to get Vasquez. Can you disagree that Vasquez has been solid for us? Chris Young is a 30-30 type guy with a low avg and low OBP and high Ks and makes a difference but so does Vasquez, if not more. The White Sox organization knew that Chris Young could play but probably didn't think he would be ready for the majors until at least 2007, which due to his injury in 2006 was the right time frame. We were looking to repeat in 2006 and we needed a CF with Rowand gone so it was probably the right judgement call at the time. But hindsight tells us differently.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ May 15, 2008 -> 03:14 PM) I compare the move to the Darko Milicic draft pick in a way, since it was also a bad move talentwise (for Detroit), but if they hadn't done it that way, they never trade for Rasheed Wallace and likely never have the run they are having right now, and certainly don't win the title in 2003-2004. You don't think Detroit would have been as good with Carmelo or Bosh or DWade?!? Rasheed is a sweet shooting big that has immense talent in the post and from the outside on offense...no real defense. Bosh is similar in terms with less range and better D. Carmelo is shorter but just as adept on offense and probably more consistent. Drafting DWade would have given them a 3 guard rotation of Billups, Wade and Hamilton and then they still may have pursued the Wallace deal since they would look for a big. I see the main benefit of the Carlos Lee deal being the addition of Pods (only because of the results in early 2005 and then the post season) and the salary we freed up to sign AJ, Dye etc. We don't win without those two guys either.
  12. AJP-CQ-JD batting 2-3-4....yesssssss OCab coming around at the plate....yesssssss Vasquez better than Garland...yessssssss Thome getting 4 hits (2 HRs) today causing Ozzie to consider "trying him at 1B" tomorrow to keep it going...hmmmmm Swisher getting on base with BBs if not hits.....I hope so
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2008 -> 02:54 AM) I noticed someone else that throws 89-92 tonight. Good movement on his fastball, nice snap on the curve, and he really worked in and out well. He got hit around a bit tonight, but he's had a pretty good career, and I've compared him to Floyd before. just sayin' Are you talking about Peavy? If so, sign me up! That would be awesome if Floyd has 75% of his success.
  14. 2 things that bode well for his next start on Saturday: 1) Facing the SF offense 2) Matched up with Barry Zito, who's been even worse than him this year... The problem for Mark this year has been location and getting key outs when he's needed them. He will always give up a bunch of hits (save the no-hitter last year) but that young and somewhat anemic SF line-up should help his confidence in locating his cutter to both sides of the plate and not worrying about missing the perfect spot. Similarly, maybe we can get a big lead off Zito and further give Buehrle the confidence that he doesn't need to make perfect pitches with a big cushion. I see the old typical Buehrle-esque start upcoming with a CG, 1 ER, 8 hits, 1 BB, and done in about 2 hrs 47 min (mostly due to the White Sox scoring 5).
  15. I think Wallace is in fact a "Smoak" screen. I think we will take Smoak if he is there and perhaps Wallace if he is not. That would make the Quentin trade that much better. Chris Carter would have been blocked for years as Smoak and Wallace are already closer to the majors than him. If given the choice between the SS and the 1B, while I think the toolsy Tulowitzki-esque SS is the better choice due to the fact that they are more rare, I think the Sox will take the Texeira-esque 1B. KW and the Sox probably feel like they already "drafted" their SS of the future in the Ramirez signing this winter. They essentially paid a $4 million signing bonus for him and he is just about MLB ready (if not already since he's on the big club) and still fairly young.
  16. QUOTE (NorthSideSox15 @ May 14, 2008 -> 01:11 AM) After every game and every series, it seems more and more likely that we are looking at a 100 loss team. I think its time we stop kidding ourselves into thinking that this offense is going to wake up from the dormant state it has been in since the 2006 All-Star break. We had a better record last year at this point. Though our starting pitching is vastly improved and could prolong 4-24 stretches like last year, I wonder how long Danks and Floyd will hold up. Buehrle has been terrible, and Contreras could fall apart at a moment (also the guy is probably in his 50s). And Vazquez showed his 6th inning allergic reaction last week, lets hope that doesn't happen all over again. I also don't feel like our pen is that great, this team is eerily similar to last season's, sans an Erstad here and an Andy Gonzalez and Luis Terrero there. So if we are in the same boat as last year at the All-Star break, I think we'll be cutting our losses and dealing the older guys and beginning the rebuilding process. All that seems to add up to a team that threatens to lose 100 games or something near that. Then again, maybe things will turn around and I can eat crow and say I panicked about a season thats only 6 weeks old with plenty of time to right this ship. I am fine with that. Unfortunately, we may be well under .500 at the ASB but only 6 or 7 games out and so KW will try and package the last few scraps in our farm system and some young players to get a journeyman bat and plug him in the line-up to turn the offense around. Thome, Konerko and Dye if allowed will hit their 30 HRs each (65 of which will be solo shots) and we will continue to win one game 10-7 and then lose a bunch by 1 or 2 runs where we score 3 or less.
  17. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ May 13, 2008 -> 03:33 AM) Anybody notice in that Kanny box score that Delmarva's second baseman committed 3 errors and has 23 on the season? Maybe that's why Angelos won't trade Brian Roberts.
  18. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2008 -> 01:04 AM) Are you guys high on Dotel or ready to boot him to the curb? I wonder how we'll do in our 19 games against the Royals? We are reasonably decent so far this year against our own division. Not sure that Dotel has been a real problem...he lost tonight but he really should not have. He got out of the 7th inning jam with 2 big Ks and then that crap play by Dye.
  19. The worst part is that the "throw-in" in the Swisher deal, Sweeney, would be so much more productive for us right now...not 2 or 3 years from now but right now. Of course, if we didn't have Swish, we would have Alexei in there right now and Sweeney would probably be rotting in AAA. Cleveland continues to win. Minnesota always seems to be right there. Detroit may or may not turn it around. Looks like we'll be battling for last with KC and/or Detroit for 3rd in the division. Hopefully KW makes some trades soon...of course it will be the variety of Danks, Quentin, Richar and Fields for Roberts so that we have some of the best players of the past on this team. Can't wait to see a young line-up so we can finish last in the division but at least have some hope for the future. Is last with maybe 70 wins that much worse than 3rd or 4th with 75-80 wins? LF: Owens 1B: Swisher RF: Quentin DH: Dye C: Pierzynski 3B: Fields (when off DL)...Crede/Uribe until then CF: Anderson 2B: Richar (when off DL)...Getz until then SS: Ramirez SP: Vasquez, Danks, Floyd, Contreras, Broadway Keep the bullpen but replace Wasserman with MacDougal or some young gun I know this is not realistic but I am just so frustrated with this 2007 White Sox 2.0 team
  20. Swishin' ain't easy. He needs to get back up to the top spot in the line-up and just try to get on base. The walk is a great prescription for a player in a slump. If he batted first, he could think, all I need to do is get on base with a walk ahead of these other .210 hitters. Batting him 7th, he feels like he needs to get at least a double for the .230, .190 and then the .210 hitters to drive him in.
  21. "1. TRADE JUNIOR Yes, Ken Griffey Jr. is one of the few reasons to visit Great American Ball Park, but it's time to make the tough decisions. Griffey is signed only through this year, with a club option for 2009. As a 10-and-five player, he can veto any deal, but Chicago is a popular destination, so call White Sox GM Ken Williams, who's tried to get Griffey in the past, and ask for Joe Crede or Juan Uribe. The Sox have a shot, and Griffey would be huge in Chi-Town. Then call up top prospect Jay Bruce, and put him in center for the next 10 years." Fixed
  22. QUOTE (scenario @ May 6, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) You just want to look at his last 8 games 'before yesterday'... interesting. Why not the last 10 games including yesterday? I guess averages look much better when you don't have to factor in the 0 for 5 days, eh? BTW - in the last 10 games Bourgeois (12hits/39at-bats) and Getz (10/33) are batting roughly the same average-wise (.308 vs. .303). But of Bourgeois' 12 hits, he has 1 double and 11 singles. Getz's 10 hits include 7 singles, 1 double, and 2 homeruns. Can getz play OF too? I was replacing Ozuna's superutility role not comparing getz and bourgeois.
  23. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:58 PM) So if we don't need a hitting coach, get rid of him? What point does that serve, other than to free up about a few dollars that won't be significant enough to improve the ball club in any facet of the game. Knee-jerk. Absolutely. I'm not sure why that is such a hard concept to understand. If you don't need something, you discard of it. Fine, in the most conservative sense, you could save him for a rainy day with the hope that he becomes useful. But that is if...and that's a big if...he isn't a detriment to a team (we are a terrible hitting team over 1+ seasons now) and two, if you actually did need to use him, he would be effective.
  24. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ May 6, 2008 -> 03:57 PM) After talking it over with my esteemed colleague, AnthraxFan93, I have come to the blatantly obvious realization that it really isn't all Walker's fault (again, obvious). A change is due, but he has a lineup filled with streaky power hitters. Swisher hit . last year, Cabrera is a .271 hitter, there's not a guy in this lineup known to hit for average. The problem with this team starts with the hard-headed GM, and a manager who claims the team is going to do the little things yet it never does. This runs way deeper than just the hitting coach. There's a big difference between .271 (or .280+ as some of these guys are for their careers) and .200 Survey sayyyyyyyyyyyyys: Walker's Fault
