Sox vs. Oakland, March 10, 2:05 (SS)
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) Broadway doing his best to try and let the A's back into this game....Actually nice to see him work out of a bases loaded, no out jam, and only allow one run in.

Rowand to the Sox??
Just FYI. Rowand has not played in the last two Phillies games (Friday and Saturday). Victorino has started both of the games. Sometimes teams stop playing players before trades. Could just be a coincidence.

Sox vs. Rox, March 10th 2007, 2:05 CST (SS)
Erstad with 2-run double. He is now 2-2.

Garland's shoulder sore
QUOTE(bkmoney @ Mar 10, 2007 -> 03:17 PM) i know this is just spring training, and sorta early into spring training. but can the pitchers (and hitters) just like turn it on for opening day..? kinda getting scared The pitchers have to stretch out their arms. You can't go from just throwing on the side to throwing 100 pitches, so no they can't just turn it on. Normally they are just trying to work on their mechanics and throw strikes. They will also build up their velocity. For hitters, they are just trying to get reps. Getting back into game speed, etc. Now all players and teams do things differently. Some of the younger guys are going 110 mph trying to get aa spot and impress, while others are just building up for opening day. That is why you will see odd scores and odd records in ST and very rarely does anything translate to the regular season. The last week of ST, you will normally see things get closer to normal as teams narrow down their rosters.

Floyd article
I am holding off my judgment on him until later in ST. Right now it is too hard to gauge based off the limited innings. Once he gets to the Vazquez-line of 5 innings, then we will be able to see if he is the real deal or not.

Ozzie's Respone
Now why can't Ozzie do this more often? That is a great response and Phillips has nowhere to go from there.

Rowand to the Sox??
QUOTE(Straycats @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 07:39 AM) A source indicated that Sox general manager Ken Williams has been in talks with Philadelphia GM -- and good friend -- Pat Gillick about a deal that would send middle-relief help, including left-hander Boone Logan, to the Phillies for former Sox outfielder Aaron Rowand. What source? BTW, once anything comes out before it happens, it doesn't happen. So this is probably just more speculation. Rowand is not lighting it up this spring either (2-18, 0 BB, 5K, .111 BA), and Logan is, so this doesn't make much sense. The Sox don't need another 5th outfielder.

Is anyone else pumped about our pitching staff?
The bullpen is going to be much better than 2006, and will probably be really close to the 2005 team. There are so many live arms and most of the guys are still very young which is exciting.

03-08-2007 - Sox vs. Rockies
Another scoreless inning for Boone. Worked around a walk and infield error.

Three Questions about your 2007 White Sox
Buehrle? I don't think he can do much worse than last year as a whole. Here is mine: 1. Brian Anderson - Most Improved - because he has the most room to improve. The entire pitching staff would be a close second. 2. Joe Crede - Biggest Drop-off - He had too big of a year over his career averages to do it again. 3. LF-CF-Leadoff - X-Factor's - Those positions other than the starting pitching will have the biggest impact on this team. If the Sox get solid contributions from those positions, they make the playoffs.
-
Midseason Chip
This is dependent on Buehrle's contract situation. Right now I would say Crede because Fields seems ready to move up to the bigs. With the 5th starter still a question mark, it would hard to move Buehrle and have two potential question marks in the rotation. Now if the Sox are totally out of it. They could easily move both of them, and maybe even Dye.

Levine reports Sox and Buehrle to talk
I thought this KW quote in the FoxSports article was very interesting, speaking in regards to the new pitchers: So if they don't need to be anything but a No. 5 now and next year, doesn't that imply that the current 4 will all be around in 2008, including Buehrle? KW normally chooses his words very carefully and this seems pretty obvious.

Sox Lockup Vazquez to Contract Ext.
Nice move by KW. I wonder if the deal was done before or after he pitched today (3IP, 6H, 4ER, 3K).

I just love the monster bullpen.

Forbes: Best GMs
Payroll Containment is what killed KW. He was last in that stat compared to the other MLB GMs. The ultimate stat should be World Championships, and how much your payroll was when you won.

The deal is done.
It sucks for fans, but isn't this just for the Extra Innings package? Exclusive deals happen all the time. I think XM has an exclusive deal with MLB as well. MLB must have gotten a huge contract from DirecTV. Just get MLB.tv, it is way more flexible since you can watch it anywhere.

5th Starter Race
QUOTE(striker62704 @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 06:59 PM) From what I saw today I really liked Danks. He had great stuff and a real smooth delivery. Gio didn't look so smooth but has good stuff. He needs at least another year in the minors and really needs to work on his changeup. Haeger didn't have a good outing but I still like him as a 5th starter or long relief/spot starter. He did awesome last year after getting called back up so you know he can get the job done. I didn't see how Floyd looked yesterday so I'm still up in the air with him, Masset also. I defininitely like Danks more than McCarthy, so Masset is just a plus. I don't miss Freddy. Fixed. :-) It is nice to see these guys in action. Danks looks like the real deal, and Floyd was not that bad either. I wouldn't mind having Danks or Floyd as the 5th starter and Haeger in the bullpen to spot start or come in for long relief. He would actually be the 6th starter (if needed). It would be hilarious to sandwich Haeger's knuckler in the bullpen between Sisco, Mac, or Thornton, then close with Jenks. Hitters would have a hell of a time adjusting from 65 mph knucklers to 100 mph fastballs.

Need Help Installing Java
Probably due to pop-up blocker or something. You can install manually from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp Select the second download for offline. Once you have downloaded it and installed, go back to that page and Verify Installation. It should tell you that everything is good to go.

Brian Anderson Number Change 44 to 32
I also see players reverse the number, like going from 12 to 21. I wonder why he didn't just do that.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(chisox72 @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 09:08 PM) I am sure he was just using Freddy as an example of a veteran presence and nothing more. For christ sake, this Brandon McCarthy love-fest is beyond me. I am okay with what Ozzie had to say, especially after reading Merkin's article. B-Mac was immature, and his attitude on the team based on all of the reports was also immature. Then he leaves and rips the organization in various news sources. But yeah, he did no wrong, Ozzie is the asshole and B-Mac is the saint. Afterall, he is paving his way to Cooperstown. Maybe without B-Mac around, BA can get his head out of his ass too before he gets sent packing... The weird thing is B-Mac was not the first younger guy to mention the clubhouse. Logan said very similar things about the clubhouse from 2006. Both of their comments were geared towards all the guys being married and older. So it would make sense that B-Mac would be hanging out with Anderson since he was probably the only guy that was near his age and spoke English as a first language.

Guillen responds to McCarthy's comments
QUOTE(hitlesswonder @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) That's funny...Guillen thinks that McCarthy should have learned how to act on the field from Garcia. Freddy could have explained to Brandon how you only need to try hard in "Big Games", you don't really have to go all out unless you've got a national TV audience. I remember at least twice last season when Freddy showed up his teammates during a game, on the field. All Brandon said was that he didn't have a lot of friends on the Sox and he felt the coching focused on the negative. Which is worse? Yeah, I posted two of the better comments. It is surprising that he would use Garcia as an example.
