Quentin is heads and heels above everyone this month. It's not even close. As for the pitcher, I'd go with DJ as he's been a huge help with Linebrink being out. Jenks had a great month, but it was a bit more unexpected from Carrasco so I'd have to give the edge to him.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 03:49 PM) There is no question. But when someone talks JM deserving the MVP more than Quentin, I am interested to know why. Drugs. They're probably the same people who thought Morneau deserves the MVP in 2006, even though he was the third most valuable player on his own team.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 08:20 PM) Yeah I was there, very unfortunate ending to that game, thought we had it. I like our new coach though and I think we might have found an adequate quarterback and a good young wide receiver. You guys aren't great, but you'll win more than one game this year. Probably closer to 4 or 5, which isn't great, but is significant improvement from 1-11. Yep, that's basically about how I feel about this team. We aren't great, but we're going to be amazing in comparison to last years team. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 31, 2008 -> 03:38 PM) also thank you to the umpire today. He was a white sox fan. Agreed. That ump was very helpful today.

That's a relief. Great job by Floyd today. Didn't have his best stuff, but stayed effective and held down a very potent Boston offense.

Obligatory post about Minnesota beating NIU, 31-27. Our defense still sucks and can't tackle, but at least the Weber/Decker combo looks awesome. -
Thread title totally should have been "LOOK IN HERE YOU MOTHERFUCERS"

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 01:17 AM) I don't start class until next Wednesday. I always get out a week later than everyone too, so I get to say suck it for now and everyone else gets to say suck it when they are done sooner than me. Agreed. I start Tuesday, but don't end until mid-late May. Whatever, I'm fine with it. As for the other topics discussed in this thread/other college things: - Brand name clothes suck and are overpriced - Phone, wallet, keys are always with me - I don't "dress up" for 8 AM classes unless I have a full day after me, but this semester I have an 8 AM on Tuesday/Thursday then my racquetball class, so it's unlikely I'll wear anything other than athletic shorts and t-shirt - Classes longer than an hour suck, regardless of topic. All of the classes in my major this semester are 1:15 long as opposed to the standard 50 minute class. It's bogus.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 06:27 PM) .236/.276/.299/.575 in 288 PA since June 1st. I'm well aware. I live in Minneapolis surrounded by Twins fans, who all acknowledge how much he sucks. He's been more than terrible this season.
-
QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 04:53 PM) Ask that question to the White Sox as he legs out another infield base hit and robs another HR against us. Then ask literally any Twins fan here in Minnesota. They'll tell you he's absolutely terrible. Then look at his numbers for yourself. .256/.293/.348 with 118 strikeouts as opposed to only 20 walks. He's been a pathetic player this year, there's no way around that.
-
QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Aug 26, 2008 -> 02:43 PM) A fine player for our rivals no doubt, but didnt they just call him up right before or at the All-Star break? That being said, between their own Ramirez, Span and of course Gomez, the Twinkies are getting some great conributions from their rookie class. Gomez has done nothing but hurt the Twins this year. He's been absolutely terrible.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 01:22 PM) He's given up only 10 in the last 23.6 IP. He had 13 walks in his first 10, when he wasn't ready coming off surgery. The guy has won 14 games in a row between Rochester and the majors. And that's only with a 89-92 MPH fastball and low 80's slider, compared to his mid-90's fastball and upper 80's, low 90's slider two seasons ago. I wasn't meaning to bash Liriano. However, he has had control problems this year and isn't the best example for the author to use considering how little time he's spent in the majors this year.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2008 -> 05:53 AM) http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=Ap8K...o&type=lgns He has 23 walks in 7 starts (34 innings). Probably not the best example there.

I drank free booze tonight from a guy that I hadn't met before tonight. Works with me, it was delicious soco.

Either Gagne ('03) or Eck ('90). Both of their seasons were ridiculous.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 09:46 AM) This is the point they are making. You may think "it is clearly untrue," however other people think otherwise. There are many ways to look at it. Is it arguable, yes, is it clearly untrue or a definitive right answer, no. You can argue it, but don't attack it as if it were fact. As a great philosopher once said, it is true, from a certain point of view And thats what I edited right after I posted

QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) Stat worthiness has been discussed on Soxtalk ad nausem, and will continue to be discussed. But you take one sentence out of a "favorite players" bio because you happen to disagree with and start sniping. The man was enjoying writing these bio's and had stepped up and volunteered to help write as many he can. Now, he's washed his hands of the whole damn thing and I don't blame him one iota. That certainly wasn't my purpose, as I've enjoyed reading these. I apologize if that did happen as a result of me. QUOTE (YASNY @ Aug 22, 2008 -> 07:50 AM) This thread, and the others like it are meant to light and fun. And I didn't mean to turn it into anything else. However, if I'm reading these things and something is said that I disagree with, I'm going to say so. I don't think I did anything out of line and I thought the whole purpose of these forums was to promote discussion about baseball (and other things). Now if I were to start talking politics in this thread I could see how it was out of line, but when I was merely talking about the worthiness of saves in a thread about the guy who holds the saves record, which doesn't seem off-topic or out of place at all to me.

Aaron Rowand home authentic with my 2006 Opening Day hat. I usually wear my 'got crede?' shirt under the jersey as well.

QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 05:34 PM) Saves is a terrible stat to use? I'll admit it does not tell the whole story, most closers may never get 50 chances in a season, but it seems that the very definition of closer is to earn saves. So it may not tell the entire picture, but it should be the first stat to use. I've never seen how they won in the standings just how many. I do think saves are a terrible stat to use because they discredit players on teams that suck or that tend to blow others out. QUOTE (Texsox @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 06:50 PM) Hmm, Soxtalk. We run a favorite WHITE SOX player poll and decide to prove that the closer with the MLB record actually isn't as good as other closers. So let's start a favorite DODGERS List. f*** we can't even celebrate a Sox player who has the MLB record without people ripping Sox players. This list is going to keep getting better and better. Nothing like having a place that White Sox fans can go to s*** on their team and history. I didn't mean it to bash Thigpen, nor was I trying to degrade what Thigpen did. However, the sentence was initially written as fact, which is something I disagreed with. Milkman basically covered it.

QUOTE (Gregory Pratt @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 05:29 PM) I think that's sarcasm. I hope it's sarcastic, in which case I would be mistaken in saying that, but I suspect it isn't.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Aug 21, 2008 -> 05:15 PM) But it was a damn good one. And it's about the team and that's Griffey's greatest asset. He brings a quiet confident swagger. Something that says, "Don't worry, I've been on sucky teams. Chill out relax and let the good times roll. We got this." I think he's a really good influence to have around. What a great team player. Ozzie will tell you the same. You could have the most confident team around, but it still wouldn't matter if your team couldn't score more runs than the opposition.
