QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 30, 2006 -> 01:17 AM) QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 29, 2006 -> 04:26 PM) Sox yet to get shutout this season. I'm gonna call a jinx on this one *sigh*

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 01:45 AM) Just to help everyone out, I'll share with you who you should be voting for at their respective postion in the AL C - Joe Mauer 1B - Travis Hafner 2B - Jose Lopez 3B - Alex Rodriguez SS - Miguel Tejada OF - Jermaine Dye OF - Vernon Wells/Alex Rios OF - Manny Ramirez You're welcome. I'd take Thome over Hafner at 1B as a write-in, but past that... yea.

QUOTE(Big Hurtin @ Jun 1, 2006 -> 12:17 AM) My dream lineup would be: 1 - Podsednik 2 - Iguchi 3 - Thome 4 - Konerko 5 - Griffey Jr. 6 - Dye 7 - Pierzynski 8 - Crede 9 - Uribe I know that people joke about getting Griffey, but I think it would be a great addition provided that: 1. he's available (obviously) 2. he would cost too much (as far as prospects) 3. not getting rid of Anderson (keep him as the backup and give him at bats when you can afford to / Gload's pretty much wasting a roster spot and Mackowiak is a corner outfield backup) 4. not in lieu of bullpen help, but in addition to I doublt it will happen for many reasons, but one can dream. Worst idea ever (actually, not ever, but its up there). Do you realize that Griffey is set to make money through 2024, whether he's playing or not?

Yes! Lets bat our worst hitter in front of our second best hitter!

If I remember correctly, the same chapter also said something about how its not about whether or not the high school players would actually develop, but instead it was about the risk that is involved when picking high school players. They are too young and undeveloped to really know what they will end up being for sure, and as much talent as they seem to have, things can still go wrong, and it is safer to go with a player that has already played in college, and is further along in their development.

QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:31 PM) I'll say this: Arizona and Philly scouted our system pretty well. Nobody asked for Anderson. Both Rowand and Anderson would never be traded in the same deal, and Chris Young was in the Arizona deal because he's one of the best prospects in the league, and the Sox wouldn't give up both him and Anderson in the same deal.

QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ May 31, 2006 -> 02:18 PM) wow, thats crazy. every position player is from the yanks or red sox...whats new? robinson cano??? stupid s***. u know when yankee fans vote, they chose a yankee at every position, same for the red sox. ........... :rolly Not every position player, but most of them (Vlad is the only one that's not )

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ May 31, 2006 -> 03:10 PM) KW and OG have to be getting fed up with BA's hitting. I know for a fact that KW is looking for other CF options right now. I've heard Tori Hunter is available. If this is so go for him! The Twins GM told a reporter that he isn't afraid to trade within his division. If this is the case KW should be all over this. Bring Hunter over. He at least has one friend in AJ. I know he doesn't have a good history here on the southside. But either did AJ and we all know how that turned out. Why? So we can pay his salary and get his overrated bat, just so we have some good defense? We already have good defense in Brian Anderson, and the upgrade with the bat wouldn't be worth it.

QUOTE(Cuck the Fubs @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) Hey. I have a life. I f***ing hate Cubs fans, all right. Geez. A bit overly defensive about something?

QUOTE(Kalapse @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) For whatever reason, I have Mike Murphy on right now and he's offering up one of the most ridiculous questions I've ever heard. Would you trade Brian Anderson straight up for Juan Pierre? Is there a single person on this board who would make that trade? I'd be willing to bet that Jeckle would do that deal.
-
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 31, 2006 -> 01:02 PM) Well that's what is so damn frustrating. To be so good on defense yet so bad on offense. With the pitchers we have, defense is more important than the additional offense that BA would add.

QUOTE(korntownballa @ May 31, 2006 -> 11:55 AM) Lmfao. How is that a fact when Garland's never been injured in his baseball career? How is that a fact when Maddux has never been on the DL? Please tell me moron. Calling admins moron's is the smartest things I've seen in ages.

Its Time For The Josh Fields Era To Begin...........

QUOTE(Cerbaho-WG @ May 31, 2006 -> 12:00 PM) Uh oh, break out the 18-year-old minor league expert brigade to trot out drivel when they have no clue what they're talking about. While I'm not for bringing up Sweeney, his SLG% doesn't translate into BA, so I have no idea what logic you're trying to use. And to whoever made the quip about Sweeney playing in a bandbox, the majority of his hits are singles, so it's not like those are going to disappear if he gets promoted. I'm not really relating his slugging percentage to his batting average. I'm saying that he will not be productive in the major league level, and his extremely low slugging percentage in the minor leagues right now will not magically get any higher. If his slugging percentage is low, then chances are his OPS will be low, and probably be about the same as Andersons right now. The reason I think his average will drop is because he is not ready for the majors. Sure, he has a .300 average down in AAA right now, but Anderson hit .295 last year (while being a more complete and better hitter), and look at how he's doing in the majors right now. He's a prospect, and you can't expect him to come into the majors hitting .280. And even if he did hit .280, by some miracle, he would not be that productive because of an absurdly low slugging percentage/OPS. -

QUOTE(fathom @ May 31, 2006 -> 10:17 AM) How about Lew Ford? He's struggled a bit this year, but we all know he's a tough out and a very good defensive player. The Twins don't have much need for him now, as they're playing Kubel in the outfield, and Stewart will be off the DL soon. I wouldn't mind Lew Ford, but I don't think that sort of deal would ever happen. -
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:23 AM) I think you guys are overreacting... It's hard for any team to sweep a 4 game series on the road... Its not so much that the Sox lost, its that they didn't execute where they should have.

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) Currently Sweeney is hitting .300, which is still pretty good, but Charlotte is a big hitting park as well. He needs more time, but I've got no doubt he'll be a .280 hitter AT LEAST in the future. He's got an excellent swing. And yet Sweeney still has a .395 SLG. He's not ready. -

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:20 AM) I doubt it... Like I said he has a better swing then BA and thus would hit about .250 on the low end. Of course even .220 is a massive improvement over BA.... .220 with worse defense than Anderson on a team that needs defense more than it needs offense. The offense is fine this year, even with Anderson and Uribe hitting like crap. I'd rather their defense instead of the SLIGHT upgrade that Sweeney would possibly add (although I don't think he would be an upgrade at all). -

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:19 AM) Like I said, I just went on the assumption that what the guy said could be right. I don't follow the minor leaguers at all. Here's a hint: never assume what Jeckle says is true, since it hardly ever is -

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ May 31, 2006 -> 08:59 AM) You do realize that their have been successful outfielders in the majors without power... It could be that he's just not going to be a power hitter... I'd rather have Sweeney hitting close to .280 with no homers then BA at .180 with 20 homers... Sweeney would NEVER hit .280 in the majors this year, stop imagining things. Sweeney has a slugging percentage of .393 in the minor league right now.. I don't even want to think about what it would be in the majors. Give him time in the minors to develop his power and to come around. QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 31, 2006 -> 09:05 AM) I would too. And when you consider that BA probably wont even get to 20 homers by the end of the year, it looks even better to me. Sweeney would hit probably .220 in the bigs.. not .280 -

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 31, 2006 -> 02:00 AM) I feel the same way you do about Sweeney and after he gets enough AB's after missing time with that hamstring injury and we may just see him. I'm curious to see how he is out in CF. I certainly hope we don't see Sweeney in the bigs. He needs a lot more time down in the minors to develop his power. -
QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 30, 2006 -> 11:32 PM) Haha I love how you do that with everything. You go off the deep end with absolutely everything (race, the Cubs, steroids, Frank, Illinois/White Sox losses....shall I go on?), but you put that little tag on everything. So it makes everything all better. :rolly ITS A CONSPIRACY I TELL YA! THE REFS ARE OUT TO GET ILLINOIS!

QUOTE(southsideirish @ May 30, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) Actually the west and south sides of Chicago are being rehabbed. The Pilsen area used to be absolutely horrible and it has a bunch of new condos and townehomes going up. Near UIC used to be awful as well, but is being nicely rehabbed. I have been to Wrigleyville and I am not a big fan. Then again I am not a teenaged or college aged boy looking to get my drink on and puke all Saturday/Sunday morning either. Yea, UIC is really nice now. I was going to go there if I didn't get into Minnesota, so I visited it and such, and its really an up and coming area.
