QUOTE(fathom @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 10:28 PM) I'm still pissed we got rid of Shingo for Jenks. No way Shingo would have allowed 3 runs at Boston yesterday. So you would rather the 36 year old closer who had an ERA nearing 6.00 than the 24 year old fireballer who has an ERA of 2.22 in just about as many innings as Shingo had. I mean, if thats what you think, ok. But I, for one, would definetly rather Jenks anyday.

4-7 now (Sweeney vs Vizcaino), nice play Pablo.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 11:15 AM) So, we're gonna give the ball to a rookie who has had 2 good starts and zero playoff experience over a veteran who has a pretty good post season record? Keep in mind which two teams he shut down in those starts. Also keep in mind he shut them both down in their home stadiums. Also keep in mind the great amount of pressure which had to have been put on him when he was pitching. That being said, I would rather stick with the pitchers who are consitantly good, such as Buehrle.

I wouldnt be too sure about that. Since the All Star break, he has hit .328 with a .402 OBP, .610 SLG%, and 1.012 OPS.

I want to buy one of those "He Gone" and "You can put it on the board... YES!" shirts, but since I live in Jersey, I dont really have a chance to go to games in Chicago that much So if there is a website or something with one of these shirts, please PM me or something Thanks

QUOTE(Greg Hibbard @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) There are two very important factors at work here: 1) Konerko is certainly going to be overvalued for what this organization is and should be looking for in a first baseman. His best years in terms of average are clearly in the rear view mirror, is slower than ever now and is only going to get slower, and is a pure slugger whose streakiness continues to be exacerbated with each year that passes. 2) The counterbalancing factor is that fact that now that Thomas' career with the White Sox is most likely over, the Sox have only one pure slugger in the organization: and it's Paul Konerko. And sure his average has gone down, but his OBP has gone up and his OPS has gone way up. Sure, Dye's hit em out in bunches, but he's not going to crack 40 and Konerko probably is for the second year in a row. We need those homers desperately on a team who can't hit enough jacks. Iguchi? No way. Podsednik forgot how to hit 'em, and that's fine. We can't count on Rowand's power numbers rebounding next year. AJ probably won't have another power year like this one next year. If he gets 12 million next year....he's getting 9 this year! We're talking a 3 million/year raise for a guy who has proven at 29 to be an organizational cornerstone. We had a huge year at the gate and can afford a bump like this. I say re-sign him. If he was 32 I'd cut him loose but he's just 29. I agree with most, but I think Konerko has been running pretty well this year. You are definetly right about his age though. As you said, if he were 32, alright, but he's 29 years old and has been solid as a rock. Also, not sure what you mean by average. He's been a .300+ hitter since the ASG, and he can probably keep it up. He had a very bad first half of the year averagewise though.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 05:40 PM) I got nothing, but this is definitely caption worthy... "LOOK BEHIND YOU!!!1 A THREE-HEADED MONKEY!"

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Sep 6, 2005 -> 07:26 AM) 8-7-05: Sox 3, Mariners 1 (Carlton Fisk Day...72nd win) I was at that game! It was a great game I was also at 7/31/05 against Baltimore, and the Sox won 9-4. So yea, 2-0 when im there

Overbay has played.. wait for it.. a grand total of 2 complete years. Last year was his career year, and only had 87 RBI and 83 runs scored. I dont think Overbay has proven anything, especially when he's projected to have 75 RBI this year.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Sep 5, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Idonno if I really want Konerko back but we definitely got to add some power if we do lose him.... What would be really cool is if we can trade for Overbay and sign Furcal... lineup next year: Podsenick Furcal Overbay Thomas Iguchi Pierznski Rowand Dye Uribe/Crede Really I have no clue how this off-season is going to be. It can be really exciting with many moves or it can be very boring with practicly none. I wouldnt like that lineup at all :/ We would be without a bit HR hitter in the middle of the order (because Frank isnt going to still hit out 40). Overbay is decent, but compared to Konerko he is weak. Konerko is a solid 35-40 HR guy with ~100 RBI a year. As easy as that seems to replace, it isnt. Many 1b who are that good are not on the market, and not resigning Konerko would force us to go after Millar or Overbay, both of which cannot handle the load which Konerko handles. If this were another year with better options at 1b during the off-season avalible, ok, but this years 1b free agents are weak, and any addition of them over Konerko would make our lineup fall apart powerwise. Essentially, getting Overbay would be the same thing as using Gload. ~.300 hitter with ~20 HR. Its not going to get the job done.

Pods and Iguchi back together at the top of the lineup. Thats nice to see
-
superstitious! removed it none the less.
-
lol, you are right, yes.

Down to two zero

Its nice seeing Iguchi back in the lineup and seeing Rowand hit the ball in the gaps, great game

QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) I honestly think the Cubs are going to be our biggest competition when it comes to resigning Paulie.. D. Lee is as good as gone with the Yanks being quoted as saying they are going to offer him a massive contract... I could definately see them trying to outbid us for our team leader in a PR move... I'm expecting it to be Boston, not the Cubs.. And it might just be me, but I would be fine with signing Paul to a 10+ million contract.. Also, Derek Lee is signed with the Cubs for more this just this year. And with Gload wanting out (I guess at least) and a weak FA market for 1b, I would much rather see Konerko get resigned than let him loose.

Good to see Iguchi back in the lineup, and I like seeing Rowand in the 5 spot. Willie did a great job in his spot though.

QUOTE(WinninUgly @ Sep 3, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) These five are also the only 5 1B's with over 80 runs, 30 HR's, and 80 RBI's. If you consider that Pujols and Teixeira have better offensive teams, then the stats are comparable. Granted Lee and Pujols are in a league of their own with their high averages, but Konerko holds his own. If he didnt have a bad first half of the year averagewise, he would be even higher than #5.
