  1. I really don't know how I feel about this yet, but I can't wait to see him in action.
  2. If you're having problems getting the java client to work, I strongly suggest using a real IRC client. I suggest xChat or mIRC, but really any will do the trick. QUOTE (Felix @ May 30, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) Works just fine for me. If the java client isn't working (today or in the future), I'd suggest grabbing a free IRC client such as xChat or mIRC. They all basically do the same, so if you have a different one that you prefer it shouldn't make too much of a difference. If you're using xChat, load it up and add irc.wyldryde.org to your server list and #Soxtalk.com in your favorite channels list. Set your Soxtalk nickname as your first nick choice, and then you should be ready to chat.
  3. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 07:17 PM) Im getting this Have you tried getting a real IRC client? It's a lot better for this chat than the java one.
  4. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) There are a couple others here who need to eat some crow on Floyd but will most likely never admit it. Because they still will say he sucks unless he wins 20 with a sub 3 ERA. Personally, I'd rather wait to see how the season as a whole goes rather than making snap judgments on him after every start he has. That's just me though. If, at the end of the season his numbers are similar to where they were last year, then I'll admit that I've been wrong about thinking he's a middle/back of the rotation guy. There's no point in trying to call people out about their opinions of him after a couple of starts though, especially since his ERA is still 5.75 this year...
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 01:21 PM) I wish the Sox had this opinion. I hope when the go up to Minnesota this year they have the attitude that they are going to kick their ass, not tipping their cap to everything Twins like the last few years, and waiting for something to go wrong. I fully agree. I'm tired of going to the Dome for each series and seeing the Sox lay and egg. It'd be nice for once to see the Sox actually play well in the Dome, but I'm not holding my breath.
  6. I really missed seeing Wise in CF, joy! (not that BA would have a chance against Greinke, it's just annoying that we don't have our best defensive team out there when it looks like every run today will be very valuable)
  7. I only caught the second half of the game, but that was a pretty nice win. Good situational hitting in the end and nice pitching throughout.
  8. If you expect Brian to be an offensive force, you're insane. Fact of the matter is that he's an average offensive player and a very above average defensive player at a very important position. If you are sane and didn't get way too hyped up about a month of AB, then he hasn't lost any luster at all. If you're insane and thought he was suddenly a great offensive player, then yeah, I can see you being a little disappointed right now. But you're also insane.

  10. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ May 30, 2009 -> 11:41 AM) Yeah, but as I pointed out earlier they still are terrible on the road and have played 8 more home games than the Tigers and White Sox It's not too likely that they'll win just 20% of their games on the road for the rest of the season. Obviously they aren't going to be as good as they are at home, but no one is.
  11. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ May 30, 2009 -> 03:45 AM) FWIW, I've made this comparison/prediction for a while now, but Gordon Beckham is going to be our Derek Jeter. A solid offensive player who is one of the worst in the majors at his position defensively? Honestly, I would be pretty disappointed if his defense ended up at Jeter's level. Obviously the offense would be great, but if he's that bad defensively I hope we have to common sense to ensure he never plays SS in the majors (which looks likely with Alexei there).
  12. I absolutely hate milk, always have. I was partially lactose intolerant when I was younger, but have no issues with it today and still won't get anywhere near milk.
  13. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ May 29, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) f*** the Twins. That's all I have to say. I wish more Sox fans had this opinion. So far the AL Central is about as ugly as everyone predicted it would be. It's amazing to think that despite how awful the Sox have played, we're still only 4 games back in the division. Of course, the same can be said for the Twins, who's starting pitching has been awful so far yet they are just 3.5 back. That's not going to stick around for the rest of the season, especially if Swarzak finds himself in the rotation for good after a couple of solid starts.
  14. I hope we don't see him until September at the earliest. I'd rather we wait until next year anyway, but he'll probably get the call in September.
  15. I really, really, really, really hope Beckham doesn't come up this season.
  16. And yet, despite hitting .303, he still only has a .349 OBP and .718 OPS (85 OPS+). He's a below average hitter even though he's hitting .303, and once things even out and his batting average regresses to his career norm, he'll be back to being the fringe major league quality player that he is. Don't get me wrong, it's nice that he's been only below average in his time with us this season as opposed to being completely godawful, but lets not pretend he's a real answer for our team. 33-year olds don't suddenly remember how they hit when they were 27.
  17. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 25, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) Is it working today? I can't get it to open. QUOTE (BobDylan @ May 22, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) I'm gonna post a temporary chat server for us: http://mike.westernave.net/chat/chatroom.html If you use Firefox, it is possible you'll have to download this plugin: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/ad...cy/0/5403/18716 Last, it is an IRC channel, so you can use your client of choice. Server: irc.wyldryde.org Channel: #SoxTalk.com (irc://irc.wyldryde.org/SoxTalk.com) EDIT: If you use Pidgin as your IM client and want to set it up to run this IRC chatroom, PM me and I'll give you instructions.
  18. Not that anyone cares, but the Wolves announced the hiring of David Kahn today as their new GM. He didn't make a prediction on wins, but did say 40-50 were possible within the next few years. I struggled to not laugh in the middle of the press conference
  19. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ May 22, 2009 -> 07:24 AM) Pitched another excellent game for Charlotte last night. He's averaging better than a strikeout per inning and has only walked 16 guys in 46 innings. Has not given up a home run in a hitter-friendly environment. So he only averages 3+ walks per 9 innings against AAA players? That's not that great. I don't really know anything about him, but it's not like that's an eye popping number or anything
  20. I think we've probably reached our quota for runs today. Hopefully it's enough for Gavin.
  21. QUOTE (tommy @ May 17, 2009 -> 12:44 PM) Who do you guys have close games after we trade Jenks? Just curious. Thornton.
