QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:59 PM) I'm glad were all in agreement that if you dont rape any kids, you should be punished. Can I ask a serious question? Do you believe that a convicted murderer should be released if his family will suffer if he is sent to prison?

Add madison to the list of can't view. Oh..and now it's working. weird.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 12:04 PM) I would love to see that lawsuit. And there might be one. If Chick-Fil-A wants to move north they will face this in a lot of cities. It would be worth fighting.
-
QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:26 AM) Mr. Cathy has every right to say what he wants to say and believe whatever he wants to believe. But now, if the alderman thinks that a Chick-Fil-A isn't a good fit for his constituents, he doesn't have to let them in. It doesn't matter what the individual store general manager, manager or employees might believe. Shoot, that particular store could be a bathhouse by night and it wouldn't matter. If the parent company believes it, the company should expect the fallout to all of its stores. Bottom line, if Chick-Fil-A were really and truly worried about expanding your business into cities that trend to the left, shut your mouth about these issues and open your restaurants. I really don't think you can make a zoning decision based on religious belief. If the store opens and people don't eat there, that's different.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:00 PM) New Glarus Brewery FTW. Is it illegal to transport alcohol over state lines, especially if it's not available in the other state?? (Not that I am worried, but it come up and I am intrigued) Nope!

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) I agree with your second paragraph. Besides if I just beat the s*** out of the low-life punk like a regular bar fight in which one guy pummels the crap out of another, what is the most I could get? I mean I'm beating the hell out of a guy who just killed 12 people and put my life in danger when I was in the theatre. It'd take an OJ jury or Casey Anthony jury to put me away for beating up such a lowlife punk. Wouldn't police applaud me for beating the piss out of such a coward? You can't agree with only one paragraph. Both are true.
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 08:44 AM) Milk, what would the police's position be if a person who was in the movie theatre dodging bullets raced out of the theatre, saw this f***head leaned against his car unarmed and simply beat the living s*** out of him? Would the police be OK with it, considering that person nearly got killed by the guy in the theatre? Would you be charged with anything if you hit the suspect with a baseball bat or something? If you beat him into oblivion since the coward obviously can't fight a fair fight? Or would the police be upset and arrest you as well for beating the s*** out of the scumbag? You didn't kill the suspect you just gave him a beatdown. What would happen to you? You would be arrested. Self defense requires that the threat be on going when you act. When the guy is standing by the car unarmed there is nothing to defend yourself from. That said, it would be an interesting case. I would argue that if he were at the theater, leaning against the car, the possibility that he is armed and would continue shooting is so high that self defense is still warranted.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 11:16 AM) Apparently she might have been underage at the time. Sucks to be the ex-boyfriend if that's the case. Going from potential millions selling the thing to a felon. I'll hazard a guess that she wasn't. That's what her people are probably pushing to make sure no one buys it.

QUOTE (Carter224 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 04:45 PM) I think just a fine should have been enough.. Why is the football program getting punished for something that had nothing to do with football? Hit them with the fine and remove all the Paterno stuff, thats really all that should have been done. At least they can transfer without having to sit out. Did you read the Freeh report?

QUOTE (Rex Hudler @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) Opinions vary. I think I am still the only one that thinks the NCAA's nose didn't belong here in the first place. I reserve the right to change my mind, but I have yet to hear an argument that makes me think the NCAA should have any jurisdiction or purpose here. Soxbadger, I agree with your premise. I'm not getting into the point by point of your argument, but I do firmly belive this has all been done as a result of a mob mentality so to speak. I think the NCAA felt they had to act because it was the right thing to do based on public outcry. This is from the NCAA constitution: In fact, just read the stuff at the link. There is no language within the guidelines under lack of institutional control that definitively limits their jurisdiction to violations rather than criminal activity or unethical conduct. If Penn State chose to fight, they may have had a case because there was no enumerated rule that they broke, but it was within their purview and will be in the future.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 01:46 PM) http://www.solomonsimmons.com/ncaa-sanctio...-penn-st-wrong/ http://michaelbucknerlaw.wordpress.com/201...nst-penn-state/ Its still early, most lawyers wont crank this stuff out that quick. Im guessing by the end of the week there is more information. They signed a consent decree. So, no, there is no violation of any law.

QUOTE (PlaySumFnJurny @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:57 AM) I am not sure what to make about the vacating of wins. I am glad to see Paterno lose the title of winningest coach, but those games were legitmately won on the field by non-cheating players who had no idea about what was going on. Above all else, that portion of the sanctions seems especially harsh. Not going to lose too much sleep over it though. Vacating wins is all symbolic. It's an attack on Paterno. It's not like people don't know that they won the games.

QUOTE (MuckFinnesota @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 11:20 PM) New job at the startup is going okay but I am going to keep looking outside of my field at some growing Chicago companies. Found one for a FMLA specialist, a bit of a change for me, but it's got a salary, benefits and nice hours. Looking to leave if we don't get paid for the hours we work over 40, which is actually happening...they say it's not illegal to not pay someone for any time worked over 40 hours (hourly wage if that makes a difference.) Salaried employees are exempt from wage and hours laws. If it's hourly pay then they are breaking the law. That's why most hourly jobs require approval for overtime because they don't want to pay the additional money.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 23, 2012 -> 09:13 AM) So the NCAA is forcing them to set up their fund for paying off victims? That is hardly a punishment then. They are going to have to do that anyway. No. These are national programs they will be funding.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 11:21 AM) Paterno family go away, it is about the victims now not you. Paterno's are the the most self centered people I have ever seen. Protect Joe Pa at all cost. Is there anything more telling about the real Joe Paterno than the reaction of his family to all of this?

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jul 22, 2012 -> 08:52 AM) My pup (7 months old) came down with something yesterday. He has diarrhea and can't keep food down. Our vets office is closed on Sundays and I don't think this is something that requires a trip to the emergency vet (he's in fine spirits otherwise and we're making him drink water to avoid dehydration). Reading on the internets, I see boiled chicken and rice consistently recommended as a good food for dogs with upset stomachs. Any thoughts on that? As usual, I'll hang up and listen. The combo of diarrhea and vomiting can be a sign of parvo and that's the danger age group. Of course they usually aren't very happy in that case. And there is usually mucous or blood. If its just food then its probably not as serious. Did he eat anything new? Meet new dogs? Could be an infection. Frankly if he is still both vomiting and having diarrhea id get him to a vet.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:46 PM) What about bringing up the point that I know the guy that got in ahead of had a felony and still got in? I really wanna bring up my last job for the simple fact that I was named team leader, which shows them that I am cut out to be a security guard. At the same time I dont wanna out my last company since once/if i get the card I plan on trying to get more work from them. Would it look immature/wrong of me to say "well my buddy got in with a felony so I followed suit, I just really wanna work in the security field so I did what I had to do" Is it illegal to lie on an application?? Yes, it is illegal to lie to the government on an application. So you pretty much have to tell the truth. The chances that they call a former employer to find out if you lied about a felony probably isn't very high if you weren't getting a PERC.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) I think that's why they are spelling it apologise, to emphasize that fact that the tweeter was not based in the US. Yeah unfortunately some poor PR person in is going to be fired for this. My wife tells me it's big news at her work as she does PR. Some best practices are going to change.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 01:51 PM) The Enforcement Unit for the division of professional regulation. Do I just not even bring up the job even though I was a team leader? Do I attempt to further lie and say they we're cool with the felony as long as it didnt happen in IL. I have a friend who got in before me that had a felony in Indiana so I knew they only ran a background check for IL. The last thing you should do is put words in their mouth. Furthering the lie is a mistake. You have to contain it.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 01:20 PM) Someone has to get fired for this, tweeted this afternoon Celeb Boutique @celebboutique #Aurora is trending, clearly about our Kim K inspired #Aurora dress Shop: http://celebboutique.com/aurora-white-plea...r-dress-en.html … They are claiming they didn't know the connection. That's almost impossible. Actually I'm quite fascinated watching them try to cover their ass.

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) I need an opinion on something. A week from today I have a meeting in Chicago about getting my PERC card with a felony on my record. Should I bring up the fact that my most recent job was with a security company in IL in which I didn't have my PERC and I lied on my application about my felony. Do you think they may call my past employer to see that I denied the felony? At this job I was named team leader so I really wanna bring it up but Im afraid it may backfire on me and I really need this PERC card! Who are you meeting with in Chicago? Problem with lying is, once you do it...you sorta have to live it.

So this may in fact have been modeled off of the movies. But not Bane...the Joker.

QUOTE (northside sawx @ Jul 20, 2012 -> 10:23 AM) Depressing... What the hell is wrong with some people? Thoughts and prayers to victims & their families Edit: very surprised this guy was taken alive, wonder tlhow that went. Real justice woulda been one of those Coppers inserting 9 grams of lead into dudes temple, now this a**hole gets a trial and we get to hear about how he was a goody guy and would never do something like this, SMH... Reports are that he didn't resist. Doesn't seem like this guy cared much about getting caught.
-
Witnesses stated clearly on the Today show that he was dressed more like a police or SWAT team officer rather than Bane...but that's not what the media wants to say.
-
Story Today Show says he has been caught. I know this is the other thread, but it isn't exactly movie related.
