  1. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) In case anyone was wondering G&T's article is up: http://flapship.com/local-hops-growing-and...common-regions/ And we were able to get it featured on New Glarus Brewing's facebook page. Nice work! Holy s***. I just saw this. Thanks!
  2. QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jul 18, 2012 -> 01:02 PM) Awesome! I know will be a regular reader. Funny thing about the Finer Things thread going into semi-hibernation. I blame my diet for cutting down but at least not entirely killing off my boozey ways. Happy to be ~ 40 pounds lighter than I was at the beginning of the year, but I feel like I have been sadly neglecting my vices. Well congrats on the weight loss! Taking a break from vices just make them more awesome when you come back to them.
  3. Since this thread fell off the map, I started doing some writing on beer and the industry for madison beer review and will have an article on flapship (like everyone else around here!) soon. So if anyone is missing their finer things fix (and who isn't) hopefully this will be one way to pass the time. Also, if you can find New Belgium's Tart Lychee...yes. Very nice sour.
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 17, 2012 -> 09:00 AM) LOL at the trolling going on in Shell's "Let's Go" ad contest. link That's a Greenpeace website. It's fake.
  5. Well he got it right like a second later so, no, not the worst call.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 08:22 PM) Depends what you have to lose by being a pain in the ass. Is there anything you need or want from her now other than a potential position? Assuming the answer is you really don't have much to lose, all you want to make sure of is that nothing you do would do anything to negatively impact the possibility of you getting this position. If that is the case, sending an email just gently asking if she ever managed to find the right candidate would probably do no harm. The key is just to try and be the least of a pain in her ass as you could possibly be, while at the same time being assertive enough that she knows you have serious interest. I've found from experience that just asking if she managed to find the right candidate for the position seems to be non-threatening enough, where as if you make the request more formal as ask for a "status update," that tends to make people think you are annoying. That's an interesting approach. I like it.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:09 PM) I'll take a vote. Do you all really want me to go thru that long, well thought out post point by point and re-but? I will if you want that. I dont think people want me to do that. I love hawk, but he is going to make the current guy look good, which is fine. I like Ventura as well. Ugh. This argument confounds me. My god. they bring in a closer for a gadzillion dollars; you have to pitch the guy in the closer's rule. It's the closer trashing their season, not ozzie. Now I guess it's to the point he's going to have to do something; Oz has indicated that, but he STILL doesn't want to replace Bell. My guess is Bell will start the second half as the closer, as he should. See what happens. Or closer by committee, but you got to go with the high paid acquisition; why can't u guys see that?? It's called a TEAM; gm acquires players; you play them. Now the closer can be kept out of a game or two, but until the GM disposes of him, he's the high paid guy who plays. This is sports; this is life. Thank you for not reading my damn post right above this. KW told him that he didn't have to play Dunn and Rios and he did it anyway. There's no question that money gets a guy some leeway, but at some point, a manager can't keep playing bad players.

    Job Hunt Thread

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 02:58 PM) Yup, after a day or two send a thank you email for the conversation and how you look forward to future conversations about working there. I did that. I guess a different way of asking the question is, what if 2 or 3 weeks go by? Do I follow up again?

    Job Hunt Thread

I did an information interview last week with an attorney that heads the health law section of her firm. I was prepared to talk about her career and had no thought about trying to angle for a job. She works at a big firm and it would be a pipe dream to get a job there anyway. Advice and a networking contact is what I was after. So a few minutes in, it becomes clear that she wants to hire someone but it sounds like she wants someone way beyond my experience level so I don't take the bait and keep on with my questions. She mentions her need again after stating that her summer associate isn't working out and I decide that I have to switch tactics and start selling myself (which sucks when I'm trying to be honest about myself and get career advice). She tells me to send her my resume and that she is going to be pushing to hire someone to work with her. So I say I'd love to be considered, etc. and sent the resume. Now the question is...what the hell do I do now? There's no guarantee any job will actually open but I don't want to be forgotten in case it does.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 09:55 AM) The GM brought in the closer, nothing Oz can do about it. He's not allowed to bench players or set the roster. And Oz has figured out that trick. Play the guys the GM gives you and no blame can befall the manager. Even when KW told him that he can bench Dunn and Rios, Ozzie didn't do it.
  11. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:50 AM) Lets also remember, that If the NL added the DH, the overall quality of the position would be drastically reduced. It isn't like there are 15 really good hitters rotting away on major league benches/minor leagues. Currently the really good hitters are sitting at first base and left field. What it means is that Ryan Braun can be a DH and someone else gets a shot.
  12. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 11:24 AM) Paterno family again puts out another statement Joe PA had NO idea what was going on and report on Thursday is a nothing but a smear campaign on Joe Pa......................Paterno family keep telling the lie because no one buys it but you! Everyone at Penn State believes it. That's the problem. In that community, this effort is worth it.
  13. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 11, 2012 -> 01:28 AM) Zambrano worked on his hitting. Zack Grienke is one of the best bunters in baseball. The Brewers actually used him to PH because he could lay down a bunt. And Z keeps hurting his back doing it.
  14. So Paterno apologizes for not doing more then his family says he didn't know anything? It sometimes makes me wonder how much the rest of the Paterno family knew...
  15. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jul 10, 2012 -> 11:14 PM) I remember the use to be a show called Sports Writers one of them was Gleason and some other old guys. They always made the younger guys (Morrisey?) look like a dope. Those guys new their stuff. I miss having journalists do commentary. Now it's ex jocks. Journalists are all moving to radio.
  16. He was on today with Dan McNeil. He wouldn't answer any questions about the Twitter thing.
  17. Jordan Danks is currently hitting .381 with a .364 OBP. Can an OBP be lower than a BA?
  18. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Jul 8, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) I wonder what Wegner's doing Taking a rest.
  19. Remember the days when umps threw a guy out, let them have their say and moved on? Last few years it seems like umps are yelling louder than the managers. Maybe I'm wrong.
  20. Well no one stopped Rios from getting a hanging curve and popping up...
  21. Alright. Looks like blue is trying to end this one. A foot in every direction.
  22. Any time Dunn wants to swing at the first pitch fastball he gets EVERY time...
  23. Since when do they play the "Na, na, na" song when there's an injury? And for that matter, the Sox are still losing. Hate that.
