QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 10:02 AM) Maybe you should send them a counteroffer to suck your dick... Ha! If you knew who they represented, you'd realize how hilarious and awful that would be...

QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 16, 2012 -> 09:34 AM) Sorry to hear that, G&T...so they started checking your references, and then just hired someone else before they even got to talk to your friend? Basically yes. He was actually my most important reference for this job (former boss in similar work) so I couldn't replace him. They honestly told me they would call references for the top 1 or 2 candidates, so I knew a reference check wasn't a guarantee. I also knew they were moving very quickly and any delay could cost me. It's possible that it made no difference. I might have been the back up regardless. But it's tough to hear they went with someone with more experience when they didn't talk to my best reference that could vouch for my experience. I did have 2 other glowing references. It was just a job, not a great career move or anything. In fact, it was more of a backup. I have 2 weeks to prepare for a huge interview so we will see...

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) Yup, the other day my friend called and said her half-sister was claiming to be physically abused by a drunken mother and sexually abused by her step-dad. Didn't believe it was true until I talked to the sister. The sister called me today in tears that no one believed her. She said twice she was drunk when he abused her and once not, and he tried to rape her one of the times. Told her mom. She did nothing. Police. Call them. This has always been the problem I've had with everyone dumping on McQuery. "If I saw that I woulda killed him!" they all say. No. Most people wouldn't have believed it because the problem is always minimized.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 01:57 PM) On the scale of all of humanity, yes, I'd still say their percentages are minuscule. I supposed that depends on your definition, but I think you underestimate the number of pedophiles out there. I think almost everyone does. Is 5% minuscule? 3%? Think of that in the Chicago area. I remember by boss at the DA telling me about getting involved in Special Victims and how his impression was that child molesters and pedophiles were rare, like 1 in a million. But that wasn't the case. He turns to me and says "they are everywhere." My point in saying this isn't to be right about some semantic argument. It's to remind people to be aware. Minimizing the problem is dangerous.

QUOTE (G&T @ Aug 15, 2012 -> 01:45 PM) So I'm waiting to hear about a job. I know they started checking my references on Monday. I just found out that one reference has been out camping and can't communicate until tomorrow. I had tried to give him a heads up but he was already gone and didn't leave an auto-reply. Because he didn't respond I called his secretary yesterday and found out he was out but would be back today. Today I called to check in again and found that he's not coming until tomorrow. I updated the hiring manager but I'm a bit worried it cost me a job. Not a great job, but a job nevertheless. As predicted... Rejected. By phone call which is new.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 11:28 PM) I feel like a dog with his tail between his legs. I might be asking t have my old job back. I cant even figure out in my own head why, but now that I've left, I see things from another perspective and I should never have left to begin with. You should feel that way. Recognizing the challenges quickly is good even if intimidating. Also there's always a grace period where you can f*** up. Last, think of all the dumb and incompetent people you've ever worked with. It will be okay.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 08:40 PM) Good description. And G&T, they're still incredibly outnumbered by good and decent people. You used the word minuscule.
-
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Aug 14, 2012 -> 07:32 PM) Dude, seriously, stop with the melodrama. These are the actions of a minuscule portion of humanity. The almost unfathomable majority is against this stuff and doing what it can to put those responsible in jail. Having spent time in a Special Victim's Unit at a DA's office, I can tell you it's a bigger problem than you realize.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 13, 2012 -> 04:04 PM) I'm not sure if that will end up being good or bad for her in the end, but I do know that her email was awesome. It's well written. I think there are worse writing samples...aside from the profanity.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2012 -> 08:30 AM) I'm not sure he's "Dumb", or at least that's not the word I'd use. The phrase I'd use is "faulty wiring". He genuinely doesn't think he has done anything wrong. That is not an uncommon sentiment in these cases. Yeah that's about right. He actually believes he loves these kids and that they have a relationship. If you talked to him, I'd bet he'd say that the world doesn't understand and the victims were forced to testify (which was basically their defense). And then you would throw up.

Let's just say gameday doesn't agree with the ump.

AZ wanted Dempster.
-
QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 02:59 PM) The case was filed in March, 2012D003142, not sure why its news. The story supposedly is that Dempster's in-laws are in Atlanta and there were questions about where the kids would be if they were in Atlanta. Whether any of it is true, who knows. He apparently doesn't want to deal with it.

QUOTE (Cali @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:54 PM) If Ozzie does get canned after one year I see him going into broadcasting before taking another managerial job. I also don't think anyone would hire him based on whats happened the last few years to teams under his watch... Um...he can't speak english and he swears all the time. Perhaps he'd be there for the post season but no network can give him a full season of exposure.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2012 -> 11:53 AM) I think KW is looking for a reliever and back up infielder. Its fun to speculate on huge pieces and if the deal was right, I'm sure he'd pull the trigger, but I'm thinking small pieces is what he's trying to accomplish. I think Lee is owed about $80 million the next 3 years. I think there's a better chance KW brings back Ozzie than Cliff Lee. Maybe Darren Oliver . Omar Vizquel makes a lot of sense as a throw in. Agree on Lee...it's Halladay I'm wondering about. He's owed $20M for next year but I don't see the vesting option kicking in for 2014 due to his low innings this year 2014 option guaranteed with all of the following: 225 IP in 2013, 415 IP in 2012-13, and Halladay is not on disabled list at end of 2013 season

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 05:29 PM) If he's in a mental hospital he'll be with other patients, right? I mean they don't have solitary confinement in a hospital do they? Knowing the pussification of America, I am pretty positive he'll be ruled insane by the latest failure of a jury. It's the old argument, "You'd have to be insane to do what he did." I wonder if he'll even confide in his parents that he is sly as a fox and knows what he did and why he did it. That's not what legal insanity is. Legal insanity questions the actor's ability to understand that the conduct is criminal. Usually it is reserved for cases where someone actually believes that they are doing something right when they commit the act.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 02:13 PM) I don't think he'll have any sex if he's my in solitary confinement. He'll end up in general population at some point in his life. It's a long time.

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 01:37 PM) Went to The Beer Market in Vernon Hills last night with some friends, what a selection! Got a Belgium Tripel on tap, it was good but not memorable enough to remember the name. Then I had this beer on tap as well, absolutely delicious. If I see that one again I'll definitely get it. I didn't know that Tyranena distributed in IL. Yeah that's a pretty good one. I was out at their brewery a few weeks ago. Good stuff.
