  1. QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 11:20 AM) Chris Singleton is one of the top-rated radio broadcast prospects in the system. He's a four-tool broadcaster. He has above average range, a pleasant voice, he's excellent defensively, and can talk for some power. He was a second-round draft selection and a lot is expected of him. He also shows nice speed out there on the :30 readers. I think the organization showed their confidence in Singleton when they traded both Rowand and Young. I'm pretty confident he'll be able to step in and contribute. I am worried about his bat-speed though. Nice scouting work!
  2. Favorite drink. Gin and Tonic. I should really try to be more clever.
  3. This is meant for cyberstalkers. Plus the Senate passed it UNANIMOUSLY. I don't think all of them are Republicans.
  4. Or argue with him. Maybe he doesn't know anything and can only tell cheap jokes. Educate yourself on the issues.
  5. 2001, I had Mraz. High school teachers shouldn't pull that crap.
  6. Out of curiosity, what school? I went to Stagg and took that class so I'm wondering if it's the same guy.
  7. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 09:10 PM) That is somewhat of a myth, because a pitcher never gets the exact same amount of days off. It is normally 4 or 5 days off, with a few 6 day stretches. Here is Buerhle's rest from 2005: I base what I say on what Steve Stone says. Plus, a few 6 day rests isn't the same as mostly 6 day rests and some 7 day.
  8. There will never be six starters unless pitchers start that in the minors. It screws up the timing of guys who are used to 5 days. There is no question he will be there for long relief and spot starts.
  9. If you'll notice, they also give you the general results of the test you are about to take. If they know that already, why bother doing the test. It also biases the test taker. I took the test between FDR and Bush, my results were inconclusive. I guess that could be accurate, I'm a conservative, but who really doesn't like FDR these days besides Ann Coulter? I think they could've come up with a better test.
  10. QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jan 8, 2006 -> 06:53 AM) Eh they just played a full season and than played a couple more months after that.... And now they only getting a couple months off b4 having to go back... I dont blame them 1 bit.... I thought the problem was that Owens never told anybody he was leaving, but just kind of left. I don't care that he left, but I think it's ridiculous that someone would leave the team without giving much, if any notice. That speaks to a man's character. Of course he's also very young, and probably had an agent in his ear.

    For GOP only

QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 6, 2006 -> 03:50 PM) Of course the Democrats would love to see one of their socialist idealists in person. Call him a God and they'll reject anything he says.
  12. QUOTE(supernuke @ Jan 5, 2006 -> 03:57 PM) I'm guessing that we don't get the full ALCS in this set because our ALCS victory was not a dramatic come back from being down 3-0 against the Great Yankees. Yeah, Boston got the full ALCS because I think to them beating the Yankees was probably as good as winning the WS.
  13. uh oh Things looked bad in this one.
  14. QUOTE(LowerCaseRepublican @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 06:50 PM) The word stands for social control. The whole reason priests are unable to marry is because the Church wanted the money from the estates when priests would die. If there were no heirs, the Church would be the only one to get the money. The papacy has been bought and sold numerous times throughout history. (And nice job by the way of completely avoiding the complicit support of the Nazis by the Church...great historical revisionism!) I shouldn't get involved in this debate because it really doesn't interest me much, except that this post is simply not accurate at all. First, the idea that priests are unable to marry comes from the Jewish tradition that high priests were not allowed to engage in any "contact" with their wives the night before entering the Holy of Holies in the temple. After a while it became easier to simply not marry at all. Furthermore, the church had allotted lands for priests and bishops to live on, there was no inheritance. If one joined the priesthood, he left his family and lived elsewhere. You might be right if the son was the oldest, but that was rarely the case. Generally a priest was the youngest and expected no inheritance from his family. Second, the support of the Nazis by the Church was simply because the Nazis were far from Communists. The communists in Russia had thrown religion out and that didn't please the Church. There is no revisionism here at all. At the time, nobody knew what was going on in Germany. I went to a Jesuit university (Marquette), so I may be the victim of some bias, but unless I see something to support the claims you've made I'm sticking to this understanding.
  15. QUOTE(RME JICO @ Jan 4, 2006 -> 05:21 PM) In reference to mlbtraderumors.com, I thought that this was funny: Why would the Sox care about the Cubs convention? A Tejada trade announcement would be huge, and he could do the coin toss at the Bears game with Thome, Mack, and Vazquez. No kidding, I imagine that the Sox would like nothing better than to make that announcement during the Cubs convention. My take on this trade is this: I've sat through a lot of bad games watching prospects suck even though they were highly touted. I would rather sit through another season of watching a championship team, or at least the possibility of one. Konerko and Tejada are guys the Sox can build an offense around for a few years without sacrificing defense. I can't imagine Sweeney or Uribe will be like that. I doubt this trade has any weight, but if it does, I wouldn't mind seeing it happen. Rebuilding years will be easier to sit through if I know the team did everything it could to contend when it had the chance.
  16. QUOTE(The Critic @ Dec 30, 2005 -> 10:59 AM) I was at that final spring training series vs. Milwaukee last year. They looked like an 85-win team to me. Spring Training can be very deceiving. I ain't fallin' for THAT s*** again..... Wow, I fogot that I was at one of those games. All I remember is Lee hitting a homer and thinking the Sox were going to need another year to contend. Oops.
  17. This is like when they dressed that statue in the Sox jersey and played up his involvement in the organization. GARBAGE!
  18. The early nineties pitching staff? Where did those guys come from?
  19. Kip Wells I guess he's still around. Maggs worked out.
  20. This question was asked to Steve Stone today on Murph, and he said a 6 man rotation is a really bad idea because it will only make it harder on control pitchers like Buehrle to maintain command. Therefore, either BMac is in the bullpen or Garland is traded.
  21. This was my initial fear as a result of the trade, but the Sox need a long relieve guy and Cotts has shown he can handle the late innings and Viz is gone. So the Sox do actually need BMac there. But I wouldn't put money on that being the case. Everyone knows he's ready for the rotation. It's whether they will make room for him. I would also like to point out that I don't know what best for BMac, so I'll just say that if Coop thinks the pen is best and nothing else happens then I'm satisfied.
  22. The only way this thread works is if the Sox win 84 game or less. I don't know if that's a safe bet.
  23. QUOTE(GasHeGone @ Dec 14, 2005 -> 06:50 PM) Someone at ChicagoSports.com is talking about some deal brewing down in Dallas...Blalock, Wilkerson and a prospect for Crede, Garland? Anyone got any dirt on this? The same thread says that Tejada is being traded for Garland tomorrow. Lots of credibility.
  24. I had long forgotten Scott Schoenweis.
