  1. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 04:23 PM) There are also some marquee free agent pitchers after 2006. Out of curiosity, who?
  2. Rosenthal Says a package could be Garland and Young and the D-Backs would want Vasquez's salary covered. I don't think any move resembling this would go down.
  3. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Dec 13, 2005 -> 01:45 PM) Isn't he basically the same player as Jeromy Burnitz? All right, with a little bit more speed. I think he's a better fielder...but he played in the dome. Wrigley wind might be a problem.
  4. I don't think this deal would be considered until that Burnett deal went down. If that guy is making $55 million, Garland will ask for 60. He may not get it but if he gets a similar contract the Sox aren't going to bother. Also, by next off season how do you know the value of pitching won't be even higher? FA pitchers that are close to Garland or Vasquez might comand $11-12 million a year. This might happen because it keeps the Sox from having to make a huge offer to someone, while in this trade, KW will have some of the contract paid by other teams.
  5. Odds on Tejada Puts Cubs at the top with the possibility of Prior or Zambrano. Sox are 30-1 to get him.
  6. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 04:45 PM) Actually you can, because the British ruled Pakistan for a very long time. And he's Pakistani so its possible he speaks a third language other than English or Arabic. But you're missing my point. If this story is true, of course its bad. But what would it say about our society? Would it make us the same as the people we're supposed to be better than? Would it just be "exuberance" in trying to defeat the bad guys? Does it make the line to determine who the bad guys are harder to define? See, I'm a firm believer in trying to look at things from different viewpoints. Maybe what I'm asking is to have a conversation about whether torture is acceptable beyond our usual "Bush Bad/We can't just feed them candy" level we've been having. Because I think its a discussion worth having. And because I think there are a bunch of people here who have been hiding behind partisan hackery rather than actually speak truthfully. And I'd like to hear what they have to say. If you want to have a discussion on the issue of torture then say that. Don't point to a particular case and ask, what appears to be, a question directed toward that specifically. I guess I misunderstood. On to your question. I have trouble saying that the actions of a government in war time and in a place where civilians can't see show anything about society at all. It speaks solely toward the government, unless the people are made aware of what is happening for certain and they accept it. However, I do know that the nation has not been attacked since 9/11 on our soil despite everyone saying that our airport security is horrible. I'd say that something is going right in the effort to take the battle to our enemies. I, personally, do not like the idea of torture or war just like anybody else, but sometimes it's the only message people will understand. That's my opinion.
  7. QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Dec 11, 2005 -> 03:12 PM) And the scars to prove it. Seriously Nuke - if this story was true. What would you say it says about us? If I picked up the Enquirer and showed you a picture of the "Bat-Boy" and asked you the same question, what would you say? The question is WHETHER the story is true, not what it means if it's true. To answer your question, it would be a bad thing. What stands out to me in this story is that he went to Pakistan to kick a drug habit...I don't really know if that's a good place to go for that purpose, especially when he doesn't speak Arabic (supposedly). I don't know what else is spoken there but I doubt you can get by on your own with just english for an extended period.
  8. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 10, 2005 -> 11:33 AM) But since this question asks about 100% healthy...that means Jesus has returned and waved his hand over Frank's foot, so I guess having the Son of God on your side can't hurt either. THAT'S a move I could go for. As for the question, and for reality, I'll take what we have only because I think BA will eventually be better than Rowand and Thome has a better chance of being healthy than Thomas. Basically, I think KW did a good job replacing what he needed to.
  9. The problem with this story is there is no definition of a "mere pittance." I know Offman said that it probably meant $1 million per year but if it was really that small of an amout, then why should Furcal have cared? He was getting the years he wanted in Chicago and he appeared to be leaning towards the Cubs from the beginning. If the story is true as Offman reported it then the Cubs made a dumb move, but there's always the chance reality is skewed.

QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 03:34 PM) So many HS age kids are against Bush because they watch MTV all the damn time and their anti anything republican propaganda gets in their head. (And sadly, I'm not kidding). However, these people don't vote. If they did, the democrats could win an election.
  11. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:33 PM) Is he getting paid millions of dollars to play baseball? He should be going hard every single game. He signed the damn contract and unless he is retarded should have known they would not be in a situation to compete any time soon. I am not saying this is the same thing with garcia but he pitches down to his competition every chance he gets. All I'm saying is that I doubt his supposed lack of effort is really something to be concerned about for a team thinking of aquiring him. As I said plainly, I agree with you in principle. Personally, I think it could be the same thing with Garcia, if what you say is true. Guys have trouble getting their hearts in a game when they feel like they aren't playing the best, or that they are not a part of the best. I didn't say that was acceptable necessarily, but it happens and has become a part of sports.
  12. QUOTE(qwerty @ Dec 8, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) If that is in fact true... he is a douche and he can stay away from us. In fairness, Tejada is considered one of the hardest working players in the game and would be a great addition to any team. He is a leader as well as a great player. However, it's hard to try your best when the team is going nowhere. I agree in principle with you, but I don't think this is a problem anyone should be concerned with.
  13. I can see him being pissed about the outfield already,
  14. Pierre is not coming here. Not only is Williams saying it directly, but also because the Cubs and Rangers will overpay for him. The Cubs are desperate for a leadoff hitter and centerfielder, and just got hosed by Furcal. They might pay the high price.
  15. After all the time I spent watching the Sox and Indians play, I really can't believe Thome could possibly get to 500 as a Sox and not Thomas...it's just surreal. I have nothing further to add.

The ending sucked but I seriously wonder if the writers thought it would make it this long with the way shows come and go. I just got into it last week and I really like it, so, of course, I have to wait.

  18. Also Beckett has injury problems. I know he's really good, but I don't think he fits in with what KW wants. There's no reason to gamble on the possibility of Beckett being good when pitching is already a strength.
  19. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Nov 8, 2005 -> 01:10 PM) Brad Pitt is such an idiot. Yes, I'd take her over Angelina. As a wise man once told me, "Behind every hot girl, there's a guy tired of f***ing her." Actually he wasn't so much wise as he was fat and drunk, but it rings true nevertheless.
  20. I want it even more. I don't think I can handle the Sox going back to being a normal team. Plus, this one has barely sunk in and it all feels like a dream so I think I might be able to savor another one better.

QUOTE(KipWellsFan @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 12:47 PM) While in this case it may be correct but are you implying that socialism in nature is somehow less democratic? Well I guess that can be in the eye of the beholder, but my point still stands that these countries continue to move against the rest of the world.
  22. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ Nov 4, 2005 -> 11:11 AM) I wonder why rape is such an underreported crime. . . So true. Anybody who thinks their family is too smart to have this happen to them could be in for a rude awakening. I've seen a lot of smart girls do some really dumb things when they were drunk and even sober. The fact that anyone assumes that they are too smart to get raped leads victims not to talk because they don't want to destroy the image you have for them. We all do stupid things and there is a very good chance this woman never did a dumb thing in her life before that night. One mistake. I would like to be the first to commend this woman for standing up for herself and not being afraid of her attackers.

Chavez amazes me because he doesn't understand that China is moving toward a more democratic state and the only countries still moving left are in Central America and South America. While he is proving himself to be annoying, I don't think this move will really make any difference. China needs the US to buy all that stuff they make.
  24. I think Ozzie is just being himself. We all know he values winning over money and expects to win no matter who is out there. Now if Hawk said this, then I would consider the hidden meaning.
  25. It feels good to say that I trust KW to make the right choice on this one. That is a lot of years for a guy that has had 2 1/2 (by my count) really good seasons. The Angels won't be real happy if he goes cold for half a season. I don't know, I feel like that's a long time at that price.
