QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 03:28 PM) Konerko pre-ASB 2002 - .328 20 71 .379/.571/.950 Konerko post-ASB 2002 - .270 7 33 .332/.402/.734 Abreu pre-ASB 2005 - .307 18 58 .428/.526/.955 Abreu post-ASB 2005 - .260 6 44 .376/.411/.787 Just seeing that scares me enough to not want him anywhere near Chicago, unless it's on the north side. Scares me into telling him to avoid the Home Run Derby, but I think he learned his lesson.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 08:30 AM) I wonder sometimes if Presidents (Dems and Reps) are given too much respect and aren't challenged enough by their staffs. I always thoght Powell was an outstanding person and leader, if he had to wait until he was heading out the door to speak candidly, then IMHO there is a problem. And I am certain it isn't just this President, I believe it is all Presidents. I recommend that everyone read "Bush at War" and "Plan of Attack" by Bob Woodward. Both do a good job of showing how a cabinet runs during pressure moments. Nobody will deny that what happened to Powell was pretty rough. I'm sure there were plenty of presidents that were the same way.

QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Jan 31, 2006 -> 12:53 PM) President Bush is supposedly going to make a big pitch for alternative energy tonight in the State of the Union speech. We'll see exactly what he has up his sleeve. Supposedly it has to do with ethanol. It'll be interesting to see what he actually says about it.

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Jan 30, 2006 -> 10:24 PM) Agreed, Dye's contract is awesome. But are you just worried about Abreu's second half numbers or do you think he may have been on the juice? Just curious. I'd blame the HR Derby. Changed his swing. Happened to PK too.

Ah yes, New York syndrome.

It's much worse when there is no fire but faulty wiring causes false fire alarms during the school year in a res hall. At Marquette, I had 30+ fire alarms during my sophomore year. Some were real, most weren't. All of which come between the hours of 1 and 3 am. It was a record at the time but I believe it has been broken since.

Something interesting (kinda) that I heard about Contreras yesterday was that Don Cooper, on with North, met some Cubans during the off season who claimed to have proof that JC was actually close to 50 years old and that he is older than El Duque. I didn't see this posted anywhere else and I wouldn't mention it except that it came from Coop. I guess it's really not all that surprising.

QUOTE(juddling @ Jan 27, 2006 -> 11:44 AM) Frank wanted to be activated for the playoffs????????? I guess he figured that walking cast on his foot at the time wasn't gonna slow him down that much. He isn't going to be ready to go at the beginning of next year much less the playoffs. To me..that request sounds more like a move for Frank's ego than a move for the White Sox. What pissed me off is that he also said that he rushed back when the Sox were winning when the ankle was only 70% and if they weren't doing as well he would have waited. So that means that all he wanted was to attach his name to a winning team not be part of a losing one. Maybe I'm reading it wrong but that is BS. Had he come back for the playoffs in his condition he might have made it worse and been forced to retire. You're right, it's all about his ego. He's a great player and should be a Hall of Famer and have a bronze statue at the Cell, but every time he opens his mouth something ridiculous comes out.

Jordan also played against much better talent than Kobe does now, IMO.

QUOTE(SoxFan562004 @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 03:59 PM) This is just a new spin on the "back to Africa" movement that's been around a lot. Obviously this is a little more hateful than the rest. The best parody of these movements is in the movie CB4 with the Baba Ach character. No, I believe that was put on by the blacks and this is being done by a bunch of whites. Real Jews as they like to call themselves. Is this like Christian Identity? My guess is yes. If I'm wrong then disregard this post. I know a guy who believes in this stuff. Said he was from the true line of Adam and all sorts of crap. Now he's in jail for sexual assault...wonder what God will think of that.

This isn't a bad move for the Orioles. Benson isn't very good but it doesn't look like they gave up too much for him. On the other hand, the AL is going to eat him alive.

Hours away from moving. The same day the papers had to be signed with Tampa was the day that Illinois decided to pay for the stadium. That's what I've heard anyway.

QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Jan 20, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) If I heard the news right, it wasn't that the earnings were 'bad', just that 'Wall Street Analysts' expected more. So, because they were bad guessers, they panic and sell? Yes. I don't agree with it necessarily but it seems to be what happens.

As far as I know the letters themselves are not copywritten, only the font the school uses, the design of the emblem, and the color (as far as I know). My friend made Marquette Warriors shirts a couple years ago but would alter the old Warriors emblem just enough not to get into legal trouble. But then, he isn't a lawyer either. As for the trophy's likeness, I can't even imagine. In the case of the billboard, it probably isn't copywrite issues that are the problem, save for the trophy possibly. However, because everyone knows who they are referring to there could be ramifications for using a school's name without permission. Possibly libel, but I have no idea. -
I think Sherman is making a bit of a conspiracy out of nothing. The guy couldn't even remember player's names. I really can't say I felt he said anything meaningful, especially with Stone working for the station.

What are the chances that bin Laden wouldn't have mentioned something about a war with the west in two speaches in 2001? -
You guys have pointed out plenty of issues in this article, but this last line annoys me. So the resulting teams would include the Yankees and Red Sox and that is somehow a new order? No Thanks.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 16, 2006 -> 02:16 PM) Yes it does. It says even more about the Dems, though. I realize that much of Congress is pretty bent, but you cannot tell me that the Dems couldn't find SOMEONE from their ranks with a clean background and no ties to Abramoff. There has to be someone. What a bunch of idiots (those who made this decision, not all Dems). It's very telling about why the dems can't get elected. If you have to pick a dirty politician at least pick one that isn't connected to a well publicized scandal. But the sad thing is that it is very possible that there aren't any other people to pick because all the clean politicians are busy doing other things...if there are clean politicians.

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 13, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Does anyone actually know what standards the ABA uses to judge a candidate as well-qualified? I honestly don't, and without that, for all I know is that means he passed the bar exam. This might help Or this Also, I'm fairly certain that trial lawyers are generally democrat because they love any action against corporations. Furthermore, in that article, it says that Bush doesn't like working with the ABA generally. I really doubt any "cabal." Maybe I missed the sarcasm.

I intern at a county courthouse and I was talking to a deputy I work with about some of the crazy stuff he's seen and how cops react. He basically just said that when fights break out in prisons, the standard protocol many times is to let them "tire themselves out" then stop them. He couldn't work the county prisons anymore because it was so horrible. When it comes to prisons, I don't think it's just the prisoners that are trying to survive.

Option 2 seems good, and it's best done now when there is little Sox stuff happening, besides a run away rumor here or there.

I think Ed Farmer will piss people off more than Singleton. I'm not sold on his play-by-play.

QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jan 12, 2006 -> 01:27 PM) Why not hire Stone? He is still under contract with the Score i believe and he did play with the Sox? He already does TV for ESPN, and did TV for the Cubs. Why would he take a lower paying job, or at least a less recognizable job, on the radio? I'm sure they asked, and I'm sure he turned it down. BTW, Singleton actually has a pretty good voice IMO. I don't know if he can say anything important but we'll see. I watch most games on TV anyway.
