QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Mar 1, 2006 -> 06:09 PM) what for exactly? Yeah I don't get it. He can't crack the starting rotation and he isn't a lefty. Oh well, I guess you can never have too much pitching.

Have you tried doing this with other parks? I wonder if this is common. -
QUOTE(Soxrock200 @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 08:28 PM) Maybe Lidge just threw the one pitch that Boston guy threw in Game 1 of the ALDS I'm fairly certain Lidge threw something that looked like a BP fastball. If that's what the guy from Boston threw then you are correct.

I take Pods because really, of all the players, off all the pitchers, who would have thought that. I know Lidge was having a bad postseason but Pods isn't Pujols. Plus, I'm a small guy. We smaller guys only dream of hitting home runs like that. Konerko is supposed to hit those homers.

QUOTE(FlaSoxxJim @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 10:44 AM) There's also still a big discrepancy (sp?) over the number of Sunni mosques attacked. Is it dozens or more than 100? I don't know what to believe yet, but the numbers are all over the place. Without doing any research, I'll guess that it depends on what they mean by "attacked." Some mosques were bombed and some might have had rocks thrown at them or something. There might be dozen "major attacks" and many, many, less serious incidents. This is the simplest explanation I can come up with other than saying that someone is lying.

There was a year in little league when I was on the Cubs, my oldest brother was on the Cubs and my other brother was on the White Sox. All of us were in different levels. My team lost every game. Plus I wasn't on the All-Star team because the coach's son made it. At least that's how I remember it.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 12:13 PM) That's what I thought. I think the shows she watches (cause I do occasionally also) are on Discovery and CourtTV. They are investigations of real crimes and the details of how they found the evidence and how it was linked to the crimes. Some of them they take years. It's pretty amazing. I've never watched any of these, but I know plenty of people who do. Maybe I'll give it a shot one lazy afternoon.

QUOTE(Steff @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 12:01 PM) What technology doesn't exist..? The forensics shows are not a sitcom type show. They are investigated over months - sometimes years - documented then aired. I guess I assumed he was talking about CSI rather than City Confidential or something like that.
-
QUOTE(Iwritecode @ Feb 28, 2006 -> 11:27 AM) My wife watches those forensic(sp?) shows all the time and is amazed at what they can find to solve some of the murder cases. I always say "Yea, but that's just the ones they solved." Just think, had this woman never confessed, they may have never figured out what happened to the murdered couple. The thing about those shows is that, according to a cop I talked to, some of that technology doesn't exist, and even the stuff that does exist takes a long time to give results. As for the second part, yeah that's crazy.

While its really funny, I thought this joke died three years ago. Of course I was in college back then.

QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Feb 24, 2006 -> 06:45 PM) I love how so many people hate O'Reilly but yet talk about him so much. The Mariotti Principle.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 05:54 PM) One more thing. I've taken some of those online tests to see where I am on the spectrum, in net, and I am usually close to the middle. But here, I seem to end up on the left more often than not. What is up with that? Understandable. I take those test and always come up centrist but I lean to the right. I'm really a libertarian. If you vote for Democrats then you probably want to support your choice, where I vote for Republicans and want to support my choice. IMO if we both voted for candidates that truly reflected our ideas we would support those ideas. Which is why I have vowed to vote for third party candidates when and if they can actually do a good job.

QUOTE(The Critic @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 03:08 PM) Saddest thing is, this kind of news isn't shocking anymore. Yeah I remember when these stories were all over the news and analysts were called in to talk about it. Now the story seems to just get a passing comment.

That's one of the great stories in baseball. Something tells me that Cotts and Jenks together could rack up a huge tab. I remember after clinching the ALCS, a sportscaster asked if Cotts prefered beer or champagne and he said, "No, whiskey." Sounds about right.

The fact that kids and are mentioned at all makes the whole thing worse.

QUOTE(Whitewashed in '05 @ Feb 23, 2006 -> 12:29 AM) Aren't players always "in the best shape of their career" after a major injury? After a major injury but before the season starts.

QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 07:43 PM) That's not how it happened in Japan or Germany after World War II. That's not how it happened in Bosnia or Kosovo. After WWII Germany and Japan were basically destroyed. There was little to no spirit left. The Hirohito had to go on radio and say that he was not a god which was demoralizing the masses. The people of Japan were completely disarmed, and yes, it was done by force. Germany was a mass of rubble with Hitler dead in a bunker. As for the Bosnia and Kosovo, I don't think we are the main occupyers. Clinton left it to Europe mostly. Like I said in my original post, nobody knows for sure how to deal with insurection when the whole world is watching and the U.S. is going to have to figure it out on the fly. Old Slate Article
-
QUOTE(Rex Kickass @ Feb 22, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) Well, what did we do to prevent this as the occupying power? I'm not talking about this specific incident, but sectarian violence in general. What kept us from enforcing a rule of law? Occupying powers usually enforce their law by killing anyone who looked at a soldier the wrong way. The U.S. could prevent these things from happening, but, frankly, this country won't stand for a 10 or 20 year occupation where every night we see news of suspected terrorists being tortured. The world doesn't work the way it used to. The U.S. isn't imperial Britain who set up their own governments around the world. In todays world, I don't think anyone knows how to enforce the law as an occupyer while the whole world watches on tv.

Arabs see bigotry I think Bush saw this deal as a goodwill gesture towards the UAE and used a company that some friends knew well to pull it off. Unfortunately it has turned very wrong.

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 21, 2006 -> 03:04 PM) Why in green? I'm not interested in it. You can be, but I'm not.

It'll go by faster once the spring training games start. Plus, the WBC will fill the baseball void.
