The Finer Things In Life
QUOTE (hogan873 @ Nov 17, 2009 -> 12:27 PM) I'm a fan of a tall frothy Black and Blue. The Guinness and Blue Moon work well together. I guess I should reserve judgment but I can't imagine that working.

Coroner
In some places they have a hand in forming health policy. They can also be considered "judicial officers" who testify at trials. This is only from my work experience that I figured this out, so I could be way off.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 16, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Gaslamp Ball is rather bullish on the legitimacy of the Sox.net sources. If only they knew.. http://www.gaslampball.com/2009/11/16/1159...ee-way#comments Bullish in that no one believes it?

I think it would be PK + 1 spect to the Angels, then 2 more sox spects to the Pads along with Angels spects. Seems steep, but I can't see the Angels taking PK without getting a prospect along with him.

QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale + Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate = Brilliant! Sounds like something that should be poured over some ice cream. And yes, beer on ice cream is a very good idea (I think we've had this conversation before).

QUOTE (3E8 @ Nov 15, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) I'm going to a Beersmas celebration in a couple weeks where we share bottled beer as presents and drink all day. Do any of you have a recommendation for a specific beer good for this season or brewery in general? There are actually plenty of brewers that do christmas ales. What's fun is that there is no defined style, so it's up to the brewery to come up with something special. A personal Belgian favorite of mine is Corsendonk Christmas Ale. However, it's a bit sweet for many palates so you might want to try it first. It's actually a great beer to share because it's very drinkable, but it gets very sugary over a full 750ml bottle. Of course, Anchor has a Christmas beer release every year. Tastes a bit like christmas trees. Goose Island has one as well, but I don't think I've had it. Of course you can also go with an Imperial Stout. Stone makes a good one which is drinkable fresh, and it's moderately priced. Others are better, but, for example Peche Mortel from Dieu de Ciel is $6 a 12 oz bottle. Bells has their Expedition stout, and Goose Island has Bourbon County Stout. Those 2 though are fairly alcoholic when fresh, so they can be a tough drink.

Scott Boras
QUOTE (chw42 @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) So he's trying to say that Damon made Jeter...? That wasn't what I heard from the shows on ESPN (but then again, should I believe what they say?). I guess you can argue that in a way, but I think New Yankee Stadium made Damon and Jeter better last year more than anything. Plus, Jeter's improvement in fielding has nothing to do with Johnny Damon. Here is the link. NY Post He compared them over the past 3 seasons.

TV Talking Heads
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) so back to the thought... why not require the "opinion" logo? The problem isn't that they are stating opinion, the problem is that the reporters are entertainers more than actual analysts. People watch certain programs for the very purpose of hearing the opinions. It won't change anything. The heart of the matter is that the O'Reilly and Olberman, and others, say all sorts of crap that they probably don't really believe, but know they get rating for saying it. Unfortunately, people hear those statements and take them as serious opinions of well-informed people. If anything, you need an "Entertainment" logo.

Traveling for Thanksgiving?
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 12, 2009 -> 12:46 PM) Went there for spring break several years ago. Montreal is a good time. Yeah, I've heard a lot of good things. I'm pretty excited.

Traveling for Thanksgiving?
Montreal. Nothing more American than going to Canada.

Scott Boras
I can't find the article referenced, but I read it yesterday and, from what I recall, Boras did not say Jeter and Damon were comparable. He said that Damon made Jeter better and that the Yankees are paying for more than just Damon's numbers, but Jeter's improved numbers with Damon in the lineup.

Pennichuck Brewing apparently is going belly up. They are selling their brewing supplies. I might have to grab what I can around here. They may be going to contract brewing, but that isn't clear right now. Ratebeer

Appropriately the Chicago Tribune recently reviewed the Rogue rauchbier. Linky I'll have to look for it. Tonight though, it's Avery Salvation for me. This is really good. Full bodied, lots of fruit. A bit syrupy, and probably cloying for some, but I like sweet. Great beer to relax with. By the way, I would say that this is the closest beer to aged Hennepin I've had. The Hennepin was smoother IMO, but I would have to put them side by side to be sure. Certainly cheaper and easier to come by.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) I wanted to be a fire truck when i was really little. That uh.... didn't work out. The firetruck can eat eight times it's body weight. The ambulances will have to wait their turn.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 08:42 AM) i dont know how much truth there is to it, but I saw a post on facebook indicating that a worm/virus is hitting iphones and the result is that your screen background is erased and replaced with a picture of Rick Astley I think I read that on CNN actually. It only affects jail broken phones and apparently doesn't damage the phone.

Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Nov 11, 2009 -> 08:59 AM) Maybe this isn't such a bad idea after all. I just don't want to touch the starting rotation for this to happen. Teams that go after top flight talent are contenders. Contenders don't trade mainstays in the rotation because it defeats the purpose of the deal. They trade budding prospects. The Sox aren't going to trade John Danks or Floyd. P.S. By posting this, I have guaranteed that either Danks or Floyd will be traded.

Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 11:18 PM) Well that ends that speculation. No it doesn't. But that has nothing to do with the nonsense about Clayton talking to Hudson. The Sox NEED a bat like Gonzalez to compete. After losing Thome and Dye, that production needs to be accounted for in some way. And they aren't going to pay for Holliday. None of this means that a deal will get done, but if the Padres like Hudson and Jordan Danks, I wouldn't doubt that KW would trade them.

Adrian Gonzalez
QUOTE (iamshack @ Nov 10, 2009 -> 08:58 PM) My surprise isn't that the Padres may be looking to move Adrian. My surprise was that Kenny is going after him. Maybe not surprise as much as excitement, actually... I'm not surprised. The Sox NEED a dependable power bat in the middle of the lineup as much as anyone. They can't afford Holliday. This is the only move that makes sense. I still don't think the Sox will get him, but if the Sox want to win, it's a deal that pretty much has to be made. Long term of course, it could cause a problem.

The legal side of playing movies
This is from the commentaries accompanying the copyright statute: So technically, it probably is illegal to show movies in a class room to waste time. But really, who is going to stop it?
