“The 78” is alive and well for the Sox, Bears are 'advancing' Hammond development
But why? Like, what are the Sox "holding out" for? It's a lease for an already existing stadium, which has a historic set of precedents to base it on. The only reason it would make sense is if the Sox are angling for a short term lease with an eye on still getting a stadium done somewhere else, and the ISFA doesn't want that, especially already losing the Bears.

Garrett Crochet named Opening Day starter
As an admin, in general I don't have a problem with people throwing sand in the sandbox. It is par for the course in a place like this honestly. It irritates me more when people throw sand, and then complain incessantly when people throw sand back. If you are going to call people trolls, don't then go troll other people.

Why would they be threatening to leave while not trying to build a new stadium? That seems like the easiest thing ever?

Everyone but you. Got it.

Someone would pay 2 billion dollars to be Chicago's 2nd team.

This organization has talked about moving literally since the 1960s. They were all but moved in the 80s too. Between the Milwaukee games, the story of Charlie Finley and the franchise swaps, and the St Pete Sox, this is nothing new.

Right. It wasn't just you bumping a thread from a year and a half ago to laugh at people. The call is definitely coming from inside the house.

Yet, you keep responding, telling people what they are allowed to say and think. You act like you aren't just as guilty, but are right here doggy paddling in the deep end of the cesspool.

It's smaller, but it would be all theirs. Nashville does support their teams too. Plus if they can squeeze money out for a stadium that they can't get in Chicago that changes things too.

It could absolutely be depending on what the two theoretical offers were going to be.

I always find this ironic from people who moved 1000 miles away for better opportunity.

Bryse Wilson DFA, Bryan Hudson to IL, Gilbert and Cannon recalled per Fegan
I believe Clevinger would be a full FA at whatever point that MiLB free agency happens. At the latest he would be a FA after the World Series.

No. Wait. Please.

And in plain English, the White Sox were going to trade Garrett Crochet at some point if he was at all successful. News Flash: Jerry Reinsdorf is never going to sign off on the type of deal it took to keep Crochet long term, especially with his injury history and TJS already on the books. It was never going to happen. The question was never going to be what happened if the Sox kept him. The question was could Chris Getz have gotten more for him, either at the time he was dealt, or would it have been worth betting on his health to hold up and his asking price to go up over time. We all know what I think of Getz's ability, but I wouldn't have been willing to bet that kind of a high stakes return on Crochet's future health. Betting on a guy like Dylan Cease who has a history of taking the ball is one thing. Cease had took the ball every single turn for three straight years with the White Sox, good for 170 IP+ each of those seasons. You bet on a guy like that. We already saw what betting on Luis Robert to stay healthy looks like. Argue the return all you want, but the assumption that Getz had a choice here is one I can't get with.

Resilient White Sox/AL Central Attendance, somehow up 1.8% YoY for first 21 home dates
Their fanbase is burnt to the ground. It may never come back.

Brooks Baldwin
Look, when it comes to Andrew Benintendi, I couldn't care less. He has two years left under contract, and is probably getting about to the point where the Sox have historically been able to dump a deal like this, whether he plays well enough to be traded, or he just gets DFAd. Essentially he is down to 2/32 left on his deal. If he wins LF, cool. If not, too bad. He's not going to be a part of the next winning team, so his job means nothing going forward. Baldwin isn't going to be a guy who plays the same position every day. His value is going to be playing 3/4 spots a week to give guys days off. His defense needs to get better, but that is doable. Nothing about his defense is like Benny's arm that you really can't fix it. Sosa and Vargas are great potential LF targets. Both have had OK bats, and maybe taking away the weakest part of their game allows them to play a bit better even. I will worry about Braden Montgomery when he gets here. If he is good enough to force someone out of a position when he gets here, cool. If not, too bad.

I would categorize bumping a thread from a year and a half ago to rub it in people's faces as whining, especially coming from someone who gets upset when disagreed with.... some might even call it trolling.

Nothing like coming in hot on an old thread bump.

It isn't often on Soxtalk that a thread goes exactly how you would expect it to. Thanks.

Getz 2025 Grade: your vote matters.
Maybe we need a White Sox shutdown? Jerry is already defunding them.
-
Brooks Baldwin
I would also rather save LF for one of the no field hitters, such as Vargas or Sosa.

Getz 2025 Grade: your vote matters.
Yet you keep responding to him like your job depends on it.

Well that was a joke you apparently missed. Stand down.

Sox fire Katz and Thames
He seemed to have success with guys who didn't suck, and got success out of guys who hadn't always shown it. Talent was definitely an issue during his time here, as I don't care who the Pitching Coach was, most of the pitchers on the roster were going to suck. No one is turning guys like Cannon into a front line starter.
