You have already wasted a year with the #1 pick QB in an era where FA QBs are getting close to half a billion. You have to get Caleb a line yesterday. You also have caproom. This is obvious moves.

Great week or so for the Bears. It gives them their draft back. Now they don't have to go OL early and often. We will learn what the Bears offense really is this year for sure.

I know we need hitters, but there is definitely a thought for leaning into what we do extremely well.

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
southsider2k5 replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It happens. Heck in my hometown we have a 3 block area which was a hospital for like 150 years. It was torn down in the 90's. If they had just let it go to R1 or R2, it would have been instantly sucked up and built on. Instead they have been looking for something big to re-complete the area, all of the way down to wanting a small grocery store to be an anchor tenant with street side businesses on top of an 8-10 story residential tower building, including some affordable housing. There is nothing wrong with the lot that should have left it empty for 30 years, but their ambitions are bigger than the marketplace has been historically. It's not a vast conspiracy to hoist this property on some unsuspecting sucker, it's just an ambitious goal. -
Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox

Yes there is. Much like Block 37 staying empty for decades, its a huge plot of land with a complex history and instead of filling it with the easiest project, they keep trying to maximize it with the biggest possible projects in order to make a signature project. Nothing was wrong with Block 37 and yet it was still empty. They keep swinging for the fences in this spot as well, and we all know what happens when you swing for the fences... most of the time you miss. -

2025-26 FA Class: How would you spend Ishbia's millions?
southsider2k5 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
That is pretty much the idea behind investing. For funzies, gold closed at 493.75 that day. Today it is 2911. That is 5.9X -
So we went and pretty much lost an entire rotations worth of pitchers in the last month.

2025-26 FA Class: How would you spend Ishbia's millions?

On Jan 29, 1981 the day that the Sox sale closed, the Dow closed the day at 948.89. It closed yesterday at 42579. That means the Dow has gone by up about 44.9X. The same math for the Sox returns 105.3X. (19m vs 2b) -

They would also have their brains sued out for negligence by their shareholders. -

#1 Take your own advice. If you don't want attacks, stop attacking people. It's pretty freaking easy for most people. #2 What if I told People can care about what is going to happen, AND can understand that multiBillion dollar deals do have some level of privacy to get them done. It's not even complex for anyone with even a Business 101 understanding of the corporate world. #3 The next you add something productive and not either an attack or ridiculous conspiracy to this discussion it will be the first time. -

It's one of those essentially unknown rules called The Tray Rule. Thou shalt negotiate the sale of my favorite baseball team in public. -

Don't confuse this deal not happening with it not being announced. There are a lot of behind the scenes things that happen in multi-billion dollar things, like I have tried to explain to you multiple times. -

Which amounts to transferring control while he is alive, and Jerry giving him a ROFR upon his death for the remaining shares. -

@tray Do you have a problem with the math or is this just more of your pathetic passive-aggressive ignorance? -

Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox

He could do it one of three ways. Sell immediately. Sell at some agreed upon point in the future, or sell upon his death to save on gains. The last two options require some sort of conversation about team control that I am sure has already taken place. -
Ishbia increasing minority stake in Sox
southsider2k5 replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The thinking is if JR called him back from the Twins and convinced him to buy minority share of the Sox instead, there is zero chance this isn't a path to full ownership at some point in the near future. Ishbia will put cash up to defray stadium costs, making a public pitch for dollars more palatable. Jerry's stake is worth more per share, but not in total, because of the nature of control and voting attached to the agreement. -

southsider2k5 replied to Fielder Jones's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If Ishbia agrees to a transition structure, he won't be "letting" him run it. While Jerry might maintain "control", Ishbia will almost certainly be the one calling the shots. Again, I liked the idea that he let's Jerry be the face of the two ugly public fights that remain over a stadium and the CBA, and then once the PR hits are over, he bows out publicly, but until that time, they are working together behind the scenes to do whatever the Sox do as an organization.
