  1. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) Last 2 threads I clicked on to actually talk about baseball ( you know young players, the shift, stealing bases) have devolved into amateur shrink threads about Tim Anderson. So anyway how about that kid Delmonico bunting for hits 2 times now to beat the shift. Would be cool to see Moncada do that from the left side also. Love it. I mean if they are going to GIVE you something like an 80/90% chance at a hit, you HAVE to take it. We talk about statistics in baseball and odds and run expectancy, this highest possibility has to be when they give you that kind of of a percentage at a base hit versus any of the other odds.
  2. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) To me, the results don't matter, it's about the process. If the process is good and we lose, we're good. If the process is good and we win and we get a worse draft pick, it's worth it. If the process is bad and we get the #1 pick, we're still in trouble. For example: Moncada's second AB is the only one I was able to see. He drew a walk on a full count. I'm glad he drew the walk, because he continues to show patience and a good process -- forcing the pitcher to throw him what he wants. However, what I DIDN'T like were the two swings he took. Both were offspeed pitches, and were strikes belt high and on the outer half. He clearly recognized them as pitches he wanted to hit, but he tried to pull both of them and was way out in front. Keuchel is a junk slinger and a good one, so it's easy to miss the first one. But between the video prep he should have done, Keuchel's reputation, coaching prep that should have happened, and seeing the pitch earlier in the AB, he needed to be able to stay back and try to poke that second strike into RF. He's still learning, and he's already further along than, say, Dayan Viciedo EVER got in the MLB, so I'm not being a debbie downer. Just an example of the stuff I think we should be "rooting for" and/or "concerned about" aside from draft position.
  3. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 09:15 AM) Engel's catch was amazing. I'm glad I was able to see it as it happened. As soon as McCann his the ball, I said to my wife, "That's gone." We both said something along the lines of "holy s***" when Engel caught it. Even my daughter, who was not really watching the game, said, "He caught that!?" I don't know if his bat will come around, but with his defense and speed he wouldn't need a ton of offense to be a valuable piece. I said it in the game thread, but his route to the ball was almost as perfect as his technique to get to the ball once he got to the fence. He looked like he was actually fairly shallow and in slightly into left center when that ball was hit. His route to the ball was straight as an arrow to the spot where the ball was hit. I really hope that Engel can hit at all, because he is a near GG level CF.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) I don't think he did anything to warrant the suspension. Of course I didn't think Beltre should have been ejected for moving the on deck thing. People need to relax and laugh about some things. I don't know why everything is taken so seriously and offensively. There are plenty of things to take that way, but the littlest things now are made such a big deal of. Because that is what Joe West does. He ejects people and puts on a show.
  5. QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Do mean Instructional League HERE, or IL in The Dominican? http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...-sprained-ankle
  6. Finally saw the Engel catch. I mean the wall scaling was enough by itself, but if you look at the very first shot of him when the camera comes on, he is slightly into left center field and not very deep. He ran an absolutely perfect route to even give himself a chance to make that play... before he scaled the fence. I hope Engel can hit at all because I LOVE him in CF.
  7. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:37 PM) He was doing that stupid thing were he tries to tag from 1st on a deep ball to CF. He should have been at least 2/3 to second and scored easily after the ball bounded 20+ feet away. It was bad baserunning Stone said he was on 1st. That is all on the first base coach.
  8. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 08:17 PM) Awful baserunning from Jose. Not at all. The OF got a glove on it. He couldn't go anywhere until the ball bounded away.
  9. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:49 PM) Nobody is pretending that. Stop lying. You can't make a point in this thread without lying and without obfuscating and without evading everyone else. It's cowardly and sad. BS. This entire thread is predicated on the lie that hundreds of thousands of people ONLY die if one thing happens. It is completely and utterly Trumpesque in its level of untruth. Millions of people are going to die whether action is taken or not. That is quite literally the only truth here. "Diplomacy" hasn't achieved anything here except killing millions of people already. The Korean Peninsula for the last half century is quite literally the biggest mistake diplomatically that the United States has made. Time after time they have chosen to appease this regime. Millions are dead today, not in the future, but today, because of it. Now they have an estimated 60 warheads and are quickly working towards the easiest parts which is delivering them to where they need to go. They are flat out telling us what they plan to do with the missiles, and still we pretend it isn't real, and instead roll over for them as if they were a child throwing a temper tantrum. Even if they aren't the ones pushing the button to launch, they will be selling the missiles and technology to those who will, assuming they haven't done so already. Millions of people will die because of the situation the United States has actively allowed to happen. I have no doubt that our current Presidential regime will continue the tradition since the end of active hostilities of talking loud, but really doing nothing about this. This will keep up until finally the inevitable happens. Whether it is this year, next year, 10 years or longer it is going to happen soon enough. In my opinion, the tipping point is long since gone. They have the nukes. It is already way too late. But what we really need now is the partisan blame in place so we all have our political marching orders, because THAT is all that matters here.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:37 PM) Seby Zevala man His numbers have actually gotten better with his promotion. Unreal.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) Instead of flippant, potentially racially insensitive (at best) statements, imagine you had three direct family members living in Seoul or Incheon and no way to get them out. Would you still feel the same exact way in this scenario? I think not. You means the ones that ignore the genocide and self-induced famine deaths of millions? The ones that ignore that a crazy percentage of their population is currently being housed in concentration style re-education camps now? I would love to see the conversation turn that direction... But instead we are left to pretending that this regime hasn't killed anyone, and isn't going to kill anyone as long as we let them have nuclear weapons peacefully. If someone has direct family members in NK right now, the odds are already pretty solid that they are dead, dying of starvation, or in a government run concentration camp. No one seems to have a problem with that though.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) No offense Balta, but you don't know s***. You may spend day after day reading countless internet articles to "educate" yourself on this issue, but the reality is you don't have the facts/intel that our government & military possesses and don't have a clue at the array of options that potentially exist. You are simply a rock scientist (or whatever your everyday profession is) who has too much time on his hands and way too big of an ego. I don't need to know what the cure to cancer is to know it's a problem. And guess what, I don't need to know how to solve the North Korea issue to say it's huge f***ing problem that's reaching a boiling point due to a lack of action. That's for the experts who are paid to actually address these very real issues, not for online warriors like yourself to figure out. Really this is the answer, but it doesn't fit into partisan talking points so you will have to give an answer that does.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:28 PM) Because the North Korean threat is of the same order in terms of magnitude as Nazi Germany from 1933-1939? Really.....????? Korean Lives Matter!
  14. Welcome back Avi!
  15. That is a 6 game hitting streak for Anderson. Hopefully this is him getting going again.
  16. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) They won't be any less dead if we start bombing North Korea. What exactly do you see in the track record of foreign interventionism that leads you to believe things will turn out well? The track record of appeasement is spotless thankfully. *
  17. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 07:20 PM) Bombing North Korea will not end well for North Koreans. You can't seem to acknowledge any of the negative effects of the thing you're advocating. Luckily no one has died from what has been done so far, or will die in the future... except for those few million dead Asians, but apparently they don't count.
  18. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 06:40 PM) Ss2k5 what other countries do you recommend the US invade to depose corrupt regimes? How has that worked out historically? Syria is a humanitarian mess that's turned into a global problem. Libya is a disaster. Iran isn't exactly peachy. Pakistan had major regional issues and they have nuclear weapons too. Plenty of brutal dictators in the former Soviet republics. Turkey is quickly descending into authoritarianism. Venezuela too. The Philippines have widespread extra judicial killings and a leader who compared himself favorable to Hitler. There's reports of genocide in the Central African Republic. Yemen has an awful civil war. Somalia is still a mess. Which of these countries among many others do you also recommended the US take military action against? If not, why don't you care about these non white deaths? Offer them fuel oil and grains? That worked pretty well, right?
  19. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 06:43 PM) That's the concern troll. If you don't support bombing X country that brutalizes it's population, then you support them or Don't care about deaths there. Same bulls*** leveled at people who opposed intervention in Libya or Syria, opposed invading Iraq, opposed long term occupation of Afghanistan, etc. The same people who are OK with millions of deaths so far are worried about hundreds of thousands... A troll is a good way to put it. Funny how that works.
  20. Look I know the most important thing here is the partisan talking points, and how to blame Bush for this. It isn't the millions of people who have already lost their lives, nor is it the millions who are going to lose their lives, and it definitely isn't a guy with nuclear technology who is threatening to nuke Guam and the rest of the USA. We have been appeasing NK for 50 years now and it has worked impressively well. If you don't count the millions of dead non-white people, really this is fine.
  21. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 05:53 PM) North Korea isn't Nazi Germany, and not every situation can only be solved by military force. North Korea is not threatening to annex their neighboring countries, they don't have the military capabilities to do so, and any direct first strike action by them would result in their own annihilation. The analogy just doesn't hold, and finding possible diplomatic solutions is vastly preferable to yet more war and mass death. How well have the last few wars you've supported gone? What do you think should be done? What price are you willing to pay? If you're going to complain about "appeasement," why can't you just come out and say what you think should be done? Annex? lmao. Yeah, that is what this is about. They are just talking about nuking people meanwhile spending decades developing a bomb. This is fine.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 05:42 PM) I won't disagree that it was premature, but given the cost, it was worth the speculative investment. If you wait until the stage where it isn't premature, the cost goes from $25 million to $100 million.
  23. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 8, 2017 -> 05:38 PM) What do you think should be done? What is the cost you're willing to pay? Did we offer them the Rhineland yet?
  24. Goldberg was the last guy up, no? I would imagine he is the next guy out. What I wonder is who moves up to AAA.
